I am deeply concerned that in the middle of a discussion on this thread

https://www.redcafe.net/showthread.php?p=1488514#post1488514

someone (nickm) has seen fit to post the following:

It is this kind of braindead moral equivalence that makes me despair for some people.

Islamism - of which Al Quadea is a part - does not fundamentally trade in you-attacked-me-therefore-I'll-attack-you. It deals in you-are-a-godless-robot-better-off-dead-so-you-don't-corrupt-good-muslims. It is an ideological thing.

Maybe you need to think carefully about whose ideology is the one you want to identify with, and choose your sides accordingly.
(emphasis mine)

could/should he be warned perhaps?

Not too sure what he has said wrong, except for the Islamism thing.

It was that 'islamism' just looks like a variant typo of Islam per se unless you know that it really means 'islamic FASCISM' which I didn't at the time - so it looked like worrying bigotry about all Muslims till it all got cleared up - thanks anyway - I'll delete later after letting mods see this reply.

Unfortunately, not before earning a new tagline. :D

Not necessarily for this though I think! :) It's difficult to keep up with the neologistic generation on the net (ambiguity deliberate :) ) especially if you don't spend much time surfing.

People tend to get over sensitive with these types of things. Understandable really, given the current climate.
We need to be sensible about it though, which the Caf certainly has been. Thankfully.

Indeed - though we probably do need to be more sensitive at the moment (as I was of course).

Reckon nickm should've clarified.
Ideally yes, especially as it turns out my first reading of the term was accurate in that 'Islamism' more properly means just 'the ideology of Islam' or something very similar. But we all now know nickm meant it in the 'special' sense of 'Islamic fascist' (or similar) apparently not realising that it had another meaning.

Besides, strictly speaking Islam doesn't promote all this facism crap that's being propogated by random idiots across the middle easts. So technically, isn't Islamic Facism an oxymoron? :D

Truth be told though, when people wish to make up hybrid terminology, they really should specify what it is they mean, not assume that everyone's going to understand. More so, in cases like this, when the word in question already has a meaning in the English language.

Is·lam·ism Audio pronunciation of "islamism" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (s-lämzm, z-, sl-, z-)
n.

1. An Islamic revivalist movement, often characterized by moral conservatism, literalism, and the attempt to implement Islamic values in all spheres of life.
2. The religious faith, principles, or cause of Islam.

If people don't clarify, then it's bound to look like an uninformed dig at the religion and that's exactly what I saw it to be.
