The first big clash for Veron in the EPL.

We did superbly against Newcastle without Veron. Scoring 5 goals the first time this season after having scored only 18 goals in 14 games.

Should he play against liverpool? Will he cause us to lose for the 6th time in a row against poo? SAF talks of beatin' 'em, but he based his comments on the performance of the team that did not include Veron.

What do you think?

I depends if Becks is recalled... last I heard he's going to play with an injection next week.

why change the team that played yesterday

best we played all season,we actully wanted it

i hope he does and we keep up this performance though. although it will be very hard to replace anyone from tonight, as they all looked solid.

No - keep him on the bench for EPL games..please.

I'm not even persuaded he's the answer in Europe but if he bosses the game when we go to Juve I may reconsider.

;)

surprising how many people want him out of this game!

i think liverpool have a decent defence (even with 6 goals conceded in the last two, they'll somehow manage to raise their game against us), so maybe we could veron's skills - the ones he has shown in tearing down defences in european games.

i mean.. we haven't beaten the scousers since before veron came.. even when we were beating sides with 4-5 goals regularly.. so veron could well be the key man next weekend.

the games against Liverpool and Arsenal are the 2 key games where we cant afforf to carry anyone at all. Id prefer to see him remain on the bench, the midfield performance against Newc was the best ive seen all season. We shouldnt change it.

we'll be facing the two top teams in the league, and the midfield is where it's won and lost, and with our injuries we cant carry players in the midfield. seba cant tackle to save his life, so therefore, there's no room for him i'm afraid.

Absolutely true! Remember last season how Veron perform in those 2 games? He simply went into hiding! I'm really keeping my fingle crossed that SAF doesn't put him in the starting XI. We had a better chance without him

Why change a winning team, we were half decent for first time this season against Newcastle. If Veron does come in, where does he play, in the centre, which would mean that Fortune will have to sit out. Fortune had a really good game on Saturday, he was in there doing the hard work that allowed Scholes to do the damage. If you play Veron on the right, that would mean OGS will revert back to his attacking role with RVN. Once again this would not be right because OGS had a wonderful game on the right against Newcastle. I would think it would be wiser to keep the width tht we had in our last game just because POO dont have any width in their team, they do rely heavily on Riise and Carragher joining the attack, which just means that there will be space to exploit down that side if we play we did against Newcastle. Veron should play against Basle but definitely not against POO.

It matters feckall who WE THINK should play against Liverpool. Bottom line is Fergie will play him at the expense of Forlan, Fortune or Ole.

Play him against Basle ... and then use "fatigue" as excuse and leave him on bench for Pool game ... I really want to see how others coup with the Scousers without him around to pass some "wonder" passes ... He managed to do that once even within that few minutes he was on bench last SAT :p

Occasionally I have some Italian serie a matches, and watch how Edgar Davis played for Juventus, Seedorf played for Milan. They are playing like veron. But keen to say veron was playing the wrong way in EPL. I remember a news saying that Dennis Erwin advising veron to play something simpler in EPL and agreed with him. I watch veron's game against Japan last week. He played the same 'sloppy' way but cope well with Ortega and others to supplies a lot of changes. The point is he's bad at all but he's like playing snooker in a pool game during the EPL. I AF should played him right midfield position if Becks is not available. Solskjaer should back to play up front as striker. Forlan should shifting each other with Giggs as I notice him seems a bit tired in the previous game. Paul Scholes & Fortune should remain central midfield as their combining well recently. I hope all our defenders with be fit to stop Owen and Baros and..that's it we could either win by a goal or more as Liverpool are recently struggling in their midfield.

you seem to have made tonnes of changes up front.. not sure if that's going to work.. i think the team against Newcastle looked very solid, and maybe we shouldn't mess with it too much.

HOWEVER, SAF said in an interview yesterday that he'll be looking to go into this game "playing cautiously with counter attacks" so there's a strong case for Veron to play IMO.

He said last year we went at them with 4-5 offensive players and it didn't work, so i really doubt he will keep this team against Newcastle intact.

We'll have to wait and see!

Sadly, no matter how we wish, I reckon Fergie will restore Veron to the CM against Liverpool :(

In answer to the topic question.

Not by himself, no.

No we need warriors in that games and not Prima Donnas

Veron isn't a prima donna. He's a player who's style is different so it's been difficult for him - he's never given me the impression that he's a prima donna at all.

Andy Cole was a prima donna.

He doesnt fight for the ball, he cant tackle and he prefare to do the spectacular WHEN the wisest option is to pass the ball.

THAT WHAT I CALL PRIMA DONNA.

No need to shout.

A prima donna to me is someone who whinges and wants to be top dog.

Veron does his best - whether or not it's actually good enough is a different issue.

Agreed. And I don't think Veron should play. And I hoped he won't play too. That's two different things altogether as Fergie decides the team.

all we have to do now is sign a petition and formally hand it to SAF in request of removing Veron from the EPL games.

Most probably because he'll revert to a five man midfield and with Keane Butt and Beckham out he's little choice. I can't imagine a four man midfield of Solskjaer, Scholes, Fortune and Giggs dominating a game against either Liverpool or Arsenal can you. There are no ball real ball winners there, unless of course Phil is drafted in to make up the numbers. So that'll be another thing JSV is going to have to show us he can do occasionally ! On the positive side it's time for JSV to show what he can do in the big domestic games. It's his big chance to prove his detractors wrong.

To be honest, I'm not exactly thrilled about seeing Fortune start against Liverpool. Normally United go straight for Liverpool's jugglar and wind up being caught on the break. Fortune is hardlt the man to break up a Liverpool counterattack.
While Veron is hardly better, whatI'd suggest is to play deep against Liverpool, forcing them to come at United (they'll want a win, as they are trailing Arsenal). Then Veron and Scholes would be an excellant choice to take advantage. Giggs would beed to be on top form though, along with at least one striker. Forlan might do on the right wing.

that's pretty much what SAF has implied in his interviews i think.. that pooshit are expecting us have a go at them, but United won't play the same game this time.

from this quote, i'm also expecting Veron to play.. altho it seems to go against 99% of the fans' choice of 11.
