"I'd waited long enough. I ******* hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you ****," quotes The Times. "And don't ever stand over me again sneering about fake injuries. And tell your pal (David) Wetherall there's some for him as well. - Roy Keane.

If this was any other profession he would have been sacked. Demento has shown his lack of repect for other players, coaches and the game in general by backing this man's comments. How can they both look at any other club's manager or player in the eyes. that tackle was nothing short of GBH and as far as I can see no lesser punishment should be handed down than that which Duncan Ferguson was given for that head but. I think it's a disgrace and both should be brought before the FA and the courts.

I'm glad you brought this up because this is not discussed in any other thread in the Caf...

i wasnt born when they were around but shouldnt Ron Harris Norman Hunter Jack Charlton and countless others be fined as well by the fa as they used to assault players and have freely admitted it as well.

Maybe so, but I haven’t seen any quotes in the other threads. Some of you are using the Kung Fu kick as a benchmark, you can't. Cantona's incident was a moment of madness and he was rightly punished for it (although I think the community service, teaching kids footy, was to soft. He should have been painting park fences like any other reprobate). Clearly, from his own words, this was a malicious attack on another professional, and for Demento to defend not only the action itself but also the comments in this book shows a near-criminal attitude to the whole game itself. Maybe he will be defended more due to my allegiance, it must be harder to hear the truth from the enemy (I know from the Carragher coin incident) but you can’t deny the implications of Keane’s words and his bosses backing.
