I feel kinda sorry for him. Hes completely ruined now. Add to the doping issue, the allegations of him attacking Woolmer. Thought i saw a mms shown on tv of him singing and smoking up.

He's always had an attitude problem Amol, I remember he was being slated for similar reasons by his county whilst he played in the UK.

I believe a lot of under achievement by cricketers in the Asian sub-continent is their pride and ego...you just need to look at the most successful cricketers of the last decade, you will find they are the most humble and genuine guys Sachin, Dravid, Yousuf and Inzi come to mind immediately.

I feel that bloke is vastly overrated compared with Imran, Akram and Yonus. He got his breakthrough at the right point of his career when Waqar and Wasim are in their twilights but still never made a big progress as hyped by the media.

He was the main strike bowler for Pakistan but their attack was rubbish after the retirement of two W's and many a time he got selected as his contemporaries were much worse.

In terms of attitude problem, even second string bowlers of Imrans era like Aaquib Javed and At aur Rehmaan have displayed better big match temperament than Shoiab although being less talented.

I agree with the overrated business. Shoaib at his best is as deadly a bowler as there is. Of the ten years i've watched the game there have been few bowlers at their peak who are that devastating. This is my critisism of Mcgrath. Fabulous bowler but when it comes to an unplayable spell or bowling that just makes the batsman quake in their boots, there are othes around who have been better.

Shoaib did that but for far too little time to be taken seriously. To be honest i dont think its just a case of his mind being off the game and an attitude problem. Thats a convenient excuse. His peak didnt last long because he was never consistant enough. He was never in the league of Wasim and co. Those guys will be remembered as legends. Shoaib as a good talent who was great and very ordinary in patches. My memory of him of him will always be that world cup game when Sachin absolutely battered him.

In reponse to Vijay and Amol:

Firstly, nobody rated Shoaib to ever be another Imran, Wasim or Waqar. He was a great bowler who dulled the pain of losing our true legends. But he's never become a true legend (great player but not legend) of Pakistani cricket.

Secondly, Amol, all the drinking, whores, big-headedness, not shortening his run-ups when even Wasim told him to, etc, etc, pretty much = bad attitude. Shame for the world of cricket (and Pakistan) but there it is in black and white.

McGrath is a true legend. Remained uninjured for 10 years solid. Bowls the kind of balls nobody wants to face in any condition and has helped Australia remain number one for so long. He's the kind of bowler we're hoping Asif turns out to be but we know Asif never will. Half the player Mcgrath is will do us.
