Shittest major international tournie ever?

Agreed

I lost interest after about 5 games, which given how much I like cricket is pretty feckin hard to do

I forgot the final was on yesterday....I hear it was a rain affected affair, decided by DL

Amazing

Not just rain affected, totally shambolic

They offered the Sri Lankans the light, they accepted, the Aussies thought it was over, then the stumps came back out, and they were forced to play on in near total darkness

I was hoping this World Cup would put cricket back on the map in the Carribean. If anything, it will probably have made even more people turn away from the game.

Aye, cricket needs a strong West Indies side

What better way to encourage a revivial than giving them the World Cup....and then pricing out all the locals, for all 436 matches

Twats

92,96 and 99 were excellent world cups. Last one was ok, but I really couldn't give a monkey's about this one. fecking awful.

99 was brilliant. The first one that I actually enjoyed. Mainly cos it had some characters, like Klusener, Akram, Donald, the best of them all - Steve Waugh and even Niel fecking Johnson was it, that Zimbabwean?

Today cricket seems so bland, no fighting spirit whatsoever

99 was brilliant indeed except the final. So was 96, have some memories of 92 as well, atleast remember the two semis and final.
2003 was ok, could have been more competitive but still a lot better than this year.

Worst cricket tournament for sure. India and Pakistan going out took the interest right out, and the quality of cricket was no better. Barely any close matches, no great battles, piss poor farewells(apart from mcgrath), way too long, too many associate teams, empty stadiums etc etc And to top it off the winner everyone expected who won the final comfortably.

Can a world cup really go any worse?

What does 'offering the light' mean?

I didn't watch the whole game -- I turned it off when Silva and Dilshan were playing like it was a test match.

It means the batsmen can stay and continue to bat or leave and come back when it brightens up.

I agree it has been a rather dissapointing tournament, thought the atmosphere would be brillant in the caribbean, but how wrong I was. Bitterly dissapointed about yesterday, thought we had a genuine chance of causing an upset, Gilchrist thought otherwise. Weather was awful as well, surely they could've re-scheduled the game to tomorrow, seeing as they most likely knew what it was gonna be like. :annoyed:

India are co-hosts for the next one. No worries about the atmosphere :)

yeah, bottle tops, barbed wire, popadoms, chapatis, nappies and all sorts getting chucked at players by the huge crowds.

That's the fun stuff. I bet it'll be the most exciting WC ever.

Yes. Must admit the crowds over there are fantastic. That said it's a shame Australia's not hosted a world cup since 92, though, I would've loved them to have hosted the next one. . .and then the sub continent the one after.

I think they should rotate the WC between Indo-Pak, England and Australasia. feck the rest.

They can do feck all though if India propose to hold the World Cup

Biggest shame about this world cup was, that it didn't feel West Indian. West Indian crowds are fantastic, usually. I love all the characters they have in the stands. . . and the general party atmosphere. This could've been hosted anywhere. You have to blame the ICC.

Apparently the crowd wasn't allowed to bring their own musical instruments for some reason. There was supposed to be one hired band doing all the music but I don't really know since I saw only 3 matches.

Yeah, the steel drums. . . they sound fantastic. Oh and the sea shells too. Love the sound they make. What a feck up this World Cup was.

had we actually been winning, i might not have found them as excruciatingly annoying as i did.

ah c'est la vie.

Awful WC.

Cricket is off my agenda for the foreseeable future.

Got to say after being there I disagree, we had a fantastic time enjoyed every minute and can't wait to go back for the next test series. Sure England were crap but I don't honestly think we expected any better.

We went to Antigua and BArbados for the super 8's, the Sri Lanka game was superb which we blew completely, that said the fun on the terraces was as good as I've seen before especially as we had the Paddling pool filled with the Penguins etc. Stadium excellent and I hope India notices this and at least tries to provide fixed plastic seats instead of the school chairs we had last year...!!

The Australia game was exactly as expected, we were outclassed by a much better side. That said we again had a chance but too many wickets fell in the mid order which left KP to hold up the innings again.

The Aniguans really pulled out the stops to make everyone feel welcome, and both games were full by early afternoon once the schools had finished and the locals were let in free etc (at least the authorities tried here). Antigua maybe small but the ground is in the middle of nowhere a bit like Lancs playing on Saddleworth moor. Cheapest tickets were 25$, the grassed bank 86$ (including 10 free drinks....!!).

Sure the comp may have been crap on TV but the atmoshere in both Antigua and Barbados was excellent and as far as I'm concerned worth every penny, pity the Indian and Pakistan fans buggered off once they were out (or never even showed up for the super 8's leaving thousands of tickets sold but not used). We had a great crack with the Aussies, New Zealand team, Blarney Army and the locals which included a night at Curtley Ambrose bar watching his and Ritchie Richardson's band playing into the very early hours..!

In fairness to the West Indies they also did a fantastic job behind the stands, with fan parks, bands, etc and really went out to give all those there a good time. I have absolutely no complaints, I went with thirty others for a good crack, nice beaches and to see some cricket. We all expected England to get as far as they did and not much further, so no dissapointment there..! AS anyone who's ever followed England away knows, it's not necessarily the cricket that makes the trip and you need to be there...!!

See you in South Africa for the 20/20...Cape Town is a great place as well. Meanwhile thanks to everyone in Antigua and Barbados you gave us a great holiday and we'll be back in 2009..!

There was steel bands, DJ playing on a feck-off PA and the Trumpet player in Antigua..! Most of the bands were behind the stands in the Fan Zone areas.
