Arsenal - The IMMortals.....Sounds very nice ( and
I have just read in the 'Shearer' thread that had Shearer come to OT Cantona would not have.

"If we'd have got him we wouldn't have had Cantona and I know who I prefer!
all right.....He'll regret it, all right. Look what he could bave won here! "

Personally I don't know if having one meant you could not have the other but it brings up a pertinent question that you guys can maybe opine upon ...

IMO Cantona has been one of the greats of the game . I'd put him in the top 20 English League players of all-time . For me his presence, vision quality, finishing etc and his sheer 'will' (that bit extra) gave Man Utd the springboard to

a/ explode upon his arrival and galvanised the club to become a title winning power and

b/the momentum for the club to continue even after his departure . He gave your youngsters the sheer confidence to continue the - 'will' and 'never say die' attitude that had exemplified your run as the most consistent title winning side since Liverpool .

Point being that had you taken Shearer instead would he have been able to give what Eric did ?

IMO No way . It's as likely you'd have maybe picked up a title or FA Cup , but for me Eric is the one that started it all off for you .

Do you guys / gals think Shearer could have had the same effect or not .

Personally I don't think Shearer would be sporting many medals had you got him .

All I can about that is that tis a pity you bloodywell did'nt !!

;) ;)

In retrospect I am very glad we didn't get him. Doubly so if it had meant not getting Eric.

Shearer turned us down twice didn't he?

Bloody glad we didn't get Shearer in 92.

Always wondered what would have happened in we got him in 96 though.

Hmm, probably would have blocked Ole's progress!

So, no problems. :D

Sheepshearer is a good old fashioned english centre forward blood and guts jimmy hill <img src="graemlins/yawn.gif" border="0" alt="[Yawn]" />
Eric every time for me. he had the force of personality, shearer has yet to develop any kind of personality. besides, ole's a better finisher than Shearer. Utd havent lost out on anything.
UNITED WE STAND!! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Eric Cantona is the king!!!!!!!!! He's the reason why I fell inlove for that game. I'm only 16 so I remember 2-3 seasons of Cantona in thr red shirts and I loved every thing about Eric and espacially how he shoot the cristial-palace's fan.
I go to my club games always with my manchester united shirts that I bought when I was in England tow years ago.

Shearer wa brilliant when we were after him. Far better than say Owen is today and he would have been brilliant with us.
But Cantona was special and it had to be a special player to get us out of our 26 yr rut.

Shearer coming instead of Cantona would have resulted in a fair bit less silverware over the yrs but relatively speaking he would have still been a good signing had we been none the wiser about Cantona.

cantona cantona
cantona cantona
cantona cantona
ooh ooh cantona
ooh ooh cantona

Eric was god! without his big white chin hair! no really ya gotta belive me, it was really him....
