Holy feck, I guess it went for the board and wasn't impressed with the taste. Thats usually the reason why humans survive shark attacks, the first bite tells the shark whether the flesh is worth consuming.
horrifying thought isn't it."Flesh is worth consuming"
Grim.

Yep, all fish do that. If they don't know what it is they put it in their mouth and spit it out. If they like it they put it in their mouth again. euphemism awayIt's not even necessarily about eating. They don't have hands. If they're curious about anything at all, taking a wee nip is the best way to work out what it is.

I have seen an attack first hand, was surfing in NZ 20 years ago at a deep ocean reef. I was onboard our boat when one of our guys had a Mako lunge at him. Fortunately all he ended up with was a cut to a finger. I have also seen when sharks "bump and grind". What happened to fanning from the footage looks closer to a lunge than a bump and grind. I surf every week, even in winter and see sharks from time to time. Have also swum with sharks in Tahiti and Fiji, curiosity looks a little different to the way the shark was thrashing in that footage. He came away unscathed because the sharks weren't attacking him. They were checking him out. A little bump and grind. The water would look white and red had they attacked him.

Also thats at J Bay, have been there but didnt surf it, was too worried about sharks at the time of year I was there. J Bay is well known for having plenty of sharks around.
No, its quite a few hours drive away. Jeffries Bay is famous in the surfing world for a long uninterrupted ride with decent sized waves. Is that near that "shark alley" place where great whites jump out of the water hunting seals?

hahahahaI'd have kicked the shit out of the cnut.

I'd have ran away in zigzags. They can't see you that way.
There's swimming with sharks and there's swimming with sharks. This is on a South African coast and those sharks are Great Whites. They were definitely not attacking him but more of trying to get a taste, see if he was worth anything. He was lucky that they didn't get a proper bite. Calling it an attack would be a disservice to the great white shark. If they wanted to eat him he would be dead.I have seen an attack first hand, was surfing in NZ 20 years ago at a deep ocean reef. The shark didn't open its mouth, it "bumped" him it seems
if he opens his mouth to the slightest he gets cut, no matter what happens. the teeth are too damn sharp
oh, yes sharks don't like human flesh, but you die anyways it its a great shark. cut artery in streaming water? good luck surviving

Isn't that surf spot sort of "ruined" now because of the shark tourism there? Boats been throwing so much chum in the water that it's basically infested with great whites.
