there are trade rumours regarding shaq going to dallas in return for steve nash and nowitzki or something like that..what do you guys make out of that?

ohh..and mcgrady to houston?? looks interesting with the franchise and cat going the other way..

Would be stupid to give up Nash AND Nowitzki for an aging, oft-injured big man. My contact in Dallas says the Lakers are interested in Nash, Walker or Finley, and Howard or Fortson (rebounding help) as well as the rights to Pavel Podkolzine (#21 pick) to LA for Shaq. Howard is a must inclusion to any deal for salary purposes, but supposedly the Lakers management is interested in the former all-star, Walker. He can play as a PG, SF, or PF. The Lakers might look to sign FAs Greg Ostertagg or Greg Foster at C and possibly Charles Oakley to help at PF/SF. If Shaq is traded to Dallas, I would not be surprised to see Malone end up in Dallas too. Dallas might entertain a deal with GS to acquire Dampier and may just sign Greg Ostertagg to play C if the Shaq deal does not pan out. Also expect the Pacers to offer a package of players for Shaq. The selections of PGs Devin Harris and Vassilis Spanoulis, as well as the potential of Marquis Daniels, would allow Dallas to deal Nash. Walker is definitely on his way out of the organization and most likely will be sent to LA in a deal for Shaq, or potentially a 3 way deal. IMO, Walker would be much better in LA where he would be the 2nd option behind Kobe where as in Dallas, he was the 4th, sometimes 5th option.

Lakers 04-05:
Nash/Payton
Kobe/Rush
Medvedenko/Foster/Podkolzine
Walker/Fortson
George/Walton

Mavericks 04-05:
Daniels/Harris
Finley/Steffanson
Shaq/Bradley
Notwitzki/Malone
Howard/Najera

and Kobe's leaving Lakers also!!
Clippers join courtship for Kobe
Associated Press
7/1/2004
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Clippers believe they have a good shot at signing Kobe Bryant and will do whatever possible at landing the plum of the free agent crop.
General manager Elgin Baylor said Thursday a meeting has been set up with Bryant, who opted out of his contract two weeks ago to become an unrestricted free agent after playing eight years with the Lakers.
"We wouldn't be wasting our time if we didn't think so," Baylor said when asked if he believes the Clippers have a legitimate chance of signing Bryant.
"It will be soon, I can't tell you exactly when," Baylor said regarding a meeting between the parties. "We intend to talk to Kobe to go through all specifics, see what he has in mind. He's friendly with a couple players here. He likes our team from what I understand from his agent. We're willing to do whatever it takes to get Kobe."
Teams were allowed to begin speaking with free agents at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Thursday. Free agents can't sign until July 14.
Baylor said on a conference call that he's contacted representatives of other free agents to inquire about their services and received calls to gauge possible interest the Clippers, NBA doormats for years, might have in other available players.
But Bryant is clearly at the top of their wish list, as is the case with several teams.
Baylor laughed when asked if Bryant was the biggest name the Clippers have ever pursued.
"No question, no doubt about it," Baylor said.
Bryant turns 26 shortly before going on trial Aug. 27 in Colorado, where he faces a felony sexual assault charge. Baylor said that had no bearing on the Clippers' decision to pursue him.
The Lakers can offer Bryant a seven-year contract worth more than $135 million US, while other teams can offer six years at around $100 million.
Baylor left no doubt the Clippers will offer the maximum.
Baylor also said his team has a very good relationship with Bryant's agent, Rob Pelinka, who represents three current Clippers - Corey Maggette, Chris Kaman and Keyon Dooling.
The Lakers acquired Bryant for Vlade Divac in 1996 after the then-Charlotte Hornets took him with the 13th overall pick in the NBA draft. Bryant went straight from high school to the NBA and has been one of its top players for several years.
"He's certainly a great, great player, there's no doubt about his talent," said Baylor, a Hall of Famer. "He's a player we'd love to have. I think he might make a decision sooner than people think. It's up to Kobe. He's going to make that decision."
When asked if the Clippers are more attractive than other teams, Baylor replied: "He loves the city. We have a lot of young talent and are getting better all the time. He likes our team."
The Clippers have won just one playoff series, in 1976 when they were based in Buffalo, and have made the playoffs only three times since - in 1992, 1993 and 1997.
But in Maggette and Elton Brand, the Clippers have two outstanding young players, and believe they picked up a future star when they took 18-year-old point guard Shaun Livinston with the fourth overall pick in the draft last week.

Nash has signed for Phoenix. Wonder what Cuban was thinking when he let him go.

He had no choice...he offered Nash 4 years (due to injury concerns) but Phoenix offered 6 years. Nash is unrestricted free agent which means Dallas does not have x days to match. Nash signs a contract and that's it. I think Nash was probably worried about being traded to LA or another team in a 3 way deal if he resigned with Dallas. Dallas still has Marquis Daniels and rookie Devin Harris to play PG.

mcgrady a certified rocket! how abt that ehh??

ming dynasty in da making..hehhe

Yep, Houston has no PG now but might sign Fisher from LA. They acquired a one dimensional player (McGrady) and an over-rated forward (Howard) as well as a player to make the cap figures work (Lue). Getting rid of Francis is a good move, but Mobley was a key player for Houston. McGrady should do ok there, but what happens when LAL go all out for Yao next summer?

i've a feeling yao would stay a rocket..he's probably used to his houston area and might not wanna move elsewhere...he's not an outgoing type..prefers sitting at home playing consoles..la might not suit him..i dunno..we'll just see how it goes..

Shaq to the Heat: agent

By AP

MIAMI -- Expect to see Shaquille O'Neal in a Miami Heat uniform next season. His agent does.

Perry Rogers, said yesterday a blockbuster deal between the Heat and Los Angeles Lakers is imminent and could be official Wednesday when the NBA's two-week player movement moratorium expires.

'EXCITED ABOUT PROSPECTS'

"It still can't officially be done, of course, but I can tell you we're confident that this will move forward," Rogers told The Associated Press in a phone interview yesterday. "We're excited about the prospects. We're confident that Shaquille will be moving to Miami soon."

Miami is expected to send a package that includes Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, one other player -- perhaps Caron Butler -- and a first-round draft choice to Los Angeles in exchange for the seven-foot-one, 340-pound O'Neal, who demanded a trade shortly after the Lakers lost the NBA final to Detroit.

Rogers said he did not know which players the Lakers and Heat have agreed to swap.

"What's been agreed to by (Heat president) Pat Riley and (Lakers GM) Mitch Kupchak, I have not been privy to," Rogers said.

Both teams, through spokesmen, declined comment. Calls placed to agents for Odom and Grant were not returned, nor was one seeking comment from O'Neal, whose contract runs for two more seasons at a combined total of almost $59 million US.
