No fecking about. Don't really know how good or bad Shakhtar are this year after selling off Willian, Mkhitaryan and Fernandinho, so don't know what to expect from this game. Coming back without losing would be great!

Going to be difficult.

Nani--Carrick--Fellaini--Kagawa

Can't see anything other than a 3-0 loss and an ex Soviet player scoring two or three.

1-1 draw. No idea how good Shakhtar are after selling some of their better players. Alex Teixeira is their most dangerous player I guess and he scored 2 vs Sociedad away on first matchday.

SUBS: Amos, Evans, Anderson, Giggs, Kagawa, Welbeck, Hernandez.

No messing about. Reset and try to go again.

Not optimistic about this one but I wouldn't be surprised if we win this with a good performance. Maybe this season we will struggle in the league and perform more than well in the cup competitions, winning some of them.

Usually struggle to make European away's with working commitments but will be alright for this one.

As for the game, we need to win simple as that. It's a 4 day turn around which could prove to be beneficial for us. The players have a point to prove and the same applies to Moyes. He seems to be respecting the group stages which is something, but it won't be an easy game. From what I have seen of them (not much I must admit) they are a side capable of frustrating and making it difficult for teams, especially at home. Goes without saying that we need to step it up a gear, especially high up the pitch.

Anyway, hopefully it's a decent trip and we can get the job done. Won't be easy though.

in some ways it's good this game is so far away distance wise, they can get away from the English press!

Need a good reaction to today.

Not so long ago now, we would look to games like this with total confidence and expect them to get a result. I can see us getting beaten quite easily.

Shaktar are a much better team than they're given credit for and have been for a few years now.

I'm actually hoping we go there with Young and Valencia and play the safe game. This will be as tough as any game this season.

If it was last season's Shakhtar, I'd be shitting it after the way we look right now. They don't look as invincible at home as they have done previously after losing such important players. They're league form hasn't been as good they'd usually expect. Perhaps we are going there at the right time.

I predict a draw... or a perhaps a close flukey win.

We haven't show anything solid other than a moment of brilliance so far... we haven't even scored from open play for quite a while

As of now we look disjointed and lacking a clear direction of what we should do as a team.

Draw would be a good result.

I hope Nani keeps his place on the right which I guess means Welbeck in on the left.

Yep. That's the team. I'd like to stick with Kagawa personally but can't see it.

Maybe Evans instead of Smalling and Rafael at right back.

Saying that, I expect Valencia to play.

Park the bus, get a 0:0. Might sneak it if we get a free kick in a dangerous area. Set up to get our first from open play next weekend.

Nani RVP Rooney

Jones---Vidic---Evans---Evra

Rooney---RVP---Kagawa
If Cleverley isn't available, then move Jones into midfield and bring in Smalling at right-back. Keep it tight and take no risks. If we fall behind, then bring on Young and hope to score the resulting penalty.
Am I doing this right?

Going to be difficult. The trips to Soviet Union are always hard.

Main things I want to see is Rafael and a 3 man midfield. In Europe, especially against a technical team like Shakhtar, if we don't have numbers in the middle, we might as well give them a condom and cigarette to go with the 3 points.

------------ DDG ----------
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra
---- Carrick - Anderson ----

Not looking forward to this at all if I'm honest, could be a really tricky night. However, I was thinking the same - albeit to a lesser extent - before the Leverkusen game and that turned out alright.

Full strength team, no messing around and I think I would take a point at the moment.

I was pretty confident for the Leverkusen game, not quite sure for this one. But as you say, a full strength team should do the job.
