a friend came round to buy my couch yesterday and she brought her new husband along who's Indian.

we got talking about cricket and he reckons England has a very good shout at the World Cup next year.

i don't know if he was just looking for a discount but i thought i'd mention it.

;)

I'm sensible.

But you winning the world cup doesn't exactly make sense.

Sorry.;)

Donado's right. As things stand, our one-day side is crap.

Well done, Donado.

As things stand "today" Bangladesh are clear favourites.

No. They're just the best Test side in the world. They're still crap at ODIs.

India's been in good ODI form off late. They need to sort their bowling out though, if they're to win the World Cup.

Aussies have a good attack and if Ponting's in form, they'll probably win it for the third year in a row. However, they're no longer as invincible as they once seemed to be.

South Africa's got a really good chance as well, with them being showing great grit and determination. After the turbulent World Cup in 2003, they've sorted things out, got a good batsman and captain in Graeme Smith and are a really good ODI side. Winning the match against the Aussies a few weeks back stands testimony to the same.

England have a great test side, but their ODI side hasn't been that special. Granted a few key members of the squad were missing during the tour of India, but even prior to that their ODI side hasn't looked spectacular/formidable.

Pakistan's another team with a good chance to win the World Cup. Again, their skipper will be the key man.

All said, my money's on South Africa.... So, cutting a long story short, the Indian guy wasn't sensible, or was just sprouting utter tosh.

definitely looking for a discount

An Indian comes round, and you don't think he's thinking about money?!?

Giggsygirl, you a gullible fool! (as BA Baracus would say just before passing out from his spiked drink and being put in a plane - again).

As for the forthcoming world cup, its a tough call. Aussies should struggle this time if McGrath is out. India will get to the final - probably. Pakistan, Australia and South Africa semis - SA doing their famous choking/croaking impression at this point. Probably a boring Aus v India final again.

I have a feeling India will win and they'll beat SA in the final...

Wonder what odds I could get for that?
I would go for the opposite. SA to beat India either in finals or semis.

nah SA will choke again but i can't see India winning it either. they rarely perform in big matches.

:wenger:
Have England won it yet?
We have btw. And got to the final last time round.

Anything can happen. On recent form England are rubbish in ODIs, but so much can change from now till the world cup itself. If England translate their test form to the shorter version they will have a good chance.

And SA will get the maths wrong again.

I reckon Greg Chappell will instill some mental toughness in this team. Also the young players he's bringing in seem, to me, to have strong winning mentalities and also a natural instinct to just play the game and not over-complicate things. I think a winning mentality combined with a will to just play the game should prevent against choking but I'm no expert on sports psychology so we'll just have to wait and see!

i'm hoping india win it too but am trying not to get my hopes up. they almost never fail to disappoint. but yeah, india's recent form in ODIs has been top notch and it's really exciting to watch the games because every player has the potential to form. despite, sehwag and sachin failing to perform in just about every game india's been winning a lot.
