Manchester United look to Galatasaray defender Semih Kaya as Nemanja Vidic's replacement
Manchester United could be looking to Galatasaray's Semih Kaya as Nemanja Vidic's defensive replacement.

The Serb announced his intention to leave Old Trafford earlier this week, sparking rumours of just who David Moyes will turn to to fill his legendary boots.

New boss Moyes is looking to overhaul his squad with a number of first-team players set to be on the chopping block this summer.

Central midfield is an area in need of strengthening, but with club captain Vidic now on his way Moyes has yet another spot to fill.

With Rio Ferdinand's future also unclear and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling increasingly injury prone, central defence could be the new priority.

Kaya is the latest name in the frame, according to TalkSPORT.

The 22-year-old has impressed at both domestic and international level, and played against United in the Champions League last season.

The Turkish giants are obviously reticent to let such a talent leave but a bid upwards of £12m could force their hand.
Unsure how reliable, but we'll definitely be in the market for a centre back. I don't know much about this Kaya fella, he is ginger though. At twenty-two years of age he could become a great investment, though I would've thought we'd be interested in a more experienced defender to replace Rio and Nemanja. Anyone seen much of him? Thoughts?

He actually looks remarkably similar to Vidić in that video, on the deck anyway. Looks a proper bruiser.

Looks more comfortable in possession than Vidic imo. Goes to ground a lot too, which can be a worry against cleverer players. But he looks very assured and deals with one on one situations extremely well in this obviously favourable video.

I don't think age is an issue, for me it is all down to how he has established himself at CB for his club, and how he has improved and developed during that time. This is the problem i have with Jones Evans and Smalling, none of whom have established themselves convincingly as top drawer CB's in my view. Partly because Smalling and Jones have hardly been played as CB thus far tbf, but even so, the point is they may turn out to be quality CB's, but the jury's still out. Evans should be the man to take over, but he doesn't look to be anything more than competent cover for me.

Whether we need Kaya or not, we certainly need someone who is well established at CB, and who has the confidence to come in and be our main man while Smalling and Jones learn their trade in their proper positions, instead of being played at fecking RB or in midfield! Don't want to appear negative but our team looks devoid of leadership even with Vidic, i dread to think how we will fare next season with Jones, Evans and Smalling as the leaders of our defence.

Bobby Manc might be hard to deal with. But I think what they have done here is just find someone with a similar style to Vida and make a non story out of it.

Edit: He really does remind you of Vida though

Kaya was good but I probably preferred Exodus.
