how much money do you think Beckham would generate and which "player's" would you buy for that kind of cash?

Wouldn't sell Becks, simple as that.

It's just a hypothetical question.

I reckon Becks would get about 40m if we sell at the end of the current season even tho' the market is down. I would use that money to buy another great right winger - Joaquin Sanchez Rodriguez. He was brilliant in the World Cup and is still only 21 or 22. And possibly another midfielder like Joe Cole.

But.. the fact of the matter is that David Beckham is at OT till he retires.

I know but he hasn't played like he was a Old Trafford for 2 years. Maybe we should cash in on him?

Cash in on him and then what? It doesn't matter how much we got for him, there is nobody out there who could adequately replace him. Dyer is injured far too often, Cole isn’t winger material, and Hargreaves is total kack. Joaquín looks impressive it has to be said, and he is possibly the one player who could challenge Beckham, but he is still very young, and has a lot to learn. In a couple of years when Becks is older maybe, but at the moment it would be worth our while to keep hold of him, because on his day Beckham is irreplaceable, and I'd rather have him in our squad than somebody else’s.

Selling big names is not as profitable as it used to be since the online megastore has all the names and numbers for the same amount...

No chance. What's the point of selling a player like Becks to one of our rivals until he's well over the hill.
Whereever he goes in Europe, they could be counted as our rivals

I'd rather he play crap for our rivals then play crap for us.
Everyone is quick to take shots at our great imports like Veron who i think is a great players and is playing good soccer, but bring a sugestion like selling Becks or Giggs and people think your on it.why?

Once you start selling the players who've shown you loyalty, you're really in trouble.

SAF stands by his players, and they reward that loyalty on the pitch.

In answer to the orginal question
Becks £50m
Rio £35m
Giggs,Keane,Butt,Veron £20m each
OShea, Brown, Micky, Gary £10m each

(to name but a few)

:)

you're forgetting one small but significant thing. . .nobody has ANY MONEY.

who the hell is going to pay £40M for beckham in the current market? madrid? not when they have figo. nobody else could afford him nor would anybody pay that much for beckham anyway, not if as you say someone like joaquin is available for £20M or so.

the market's changed and it's time to get used to it.

You´re right, but since nobody wants to sell him and he hopefully plays for us til he retires. I don`t care about that. :)

i think if becks was available real madrid would pay 40m for him as he´s one of the biggest names (marketing, pr etc.) in world football. he also has a contract with adidas, just like real ....

And adidas doesn't like the fact that he plays in a Nike shirt so they will be willing to pay the 40m to get him to Madrid. Here we go again...

Jens, you are assuming Posh hasn't told him already. ;) I pray she never makes him put her shopping ahead of our Red

Mods, make this thread disappear before Kemo jumps on the bandwagon and tortures us with how Adidas want Beckham to sell more merengue shirts.

Yes, and Ronaldo was told by Nike that Manchester is wonderful.

What more do you expect of him?

Take the time to read some of the posts about Veron. He's got a lot of support.
Suggesting your "on it" when you say why don't we cash in on becks, giggs etc. is simple. Why sell players to your rivals. O'Leary realised that and it cost him his job. We want to be the best in the europe, how can you do that by offloading your best players to other team after they had a couple of bad games. It's about showing loyalty, if you don't feel wanted at your work place you don't work as hard.
Don't forget football is a job, the club are their employers. They react the same as anyone else if they feel unwanted or surplus to requirements.

If we had to sell a big name, then the first on my mind would be Giggs.

The reasons for this are obvious!

Actually.. I disagree.

Its very hard to find a quality left winger,There arent any in the PL at the moment who could fill his boots.

He wouldnt be the first big name out of the door.

Id sell Veron and Beckham before Giggs.

Paul the Beckham lover sell Beckham before Giggs?

You know as well as I do that the main attribute of Giggs's game is speed. Over the next few years he is bound to lose that, especially as hamsting problems will become more prevelant.

At this moment he's almost 29, and, he still has a very high sale price, so why wait?

He is a player we could get a great deal of money for, and use that money to replace him. A good example if Duff. With the money raised from Giggs, we could buy duff and a good flexible fullback.

I don't want to sell him BTW, as he's my favourite player, but faced with the question of the original post, then Giggs would be my choice.

And no, this is not a reaction to his current form, I've stated my opinion on this many times before.

I dont think we would get more than 15-20 million for Giggs at the moment so selling him to buy Duff etc. would never happen.

He might have been worth alot more if the market wasnt the way it is.

I agree with you, the English clubs still want their fee, yet it's difficult to get the fee for Giggs for European teams. He is worth at least 50% more than Duff though, IMO.

Maybe we should ask Real Madrid.

No, that's a bad idea!

Milan seem to be the only Iti team that have money, Real and Barca have money to.

I would never sell him to another PL team because quite frankly - he could tear beckham and Neville apart if he was the opposition.

Keep him, Djordic will come good as a replacement
