Thought i'd make this thread in halftime, aswell as reading the Street Fighter II thread.

I'm 19 & this was my first real console, which me an dmy mates literally wasted hours upon hours on it.

I dug out the Megadrive the other night & it's genuinely the most fun i've had with games for years.

What are people favourite megadrive games.

I love Street Fighter II & Streets Of Rage In particular. Also played the first fifa on Megadrive with my mate and it's great.

Streets of Rage was awesome. Was my first console too, highlights for me:

Nigel Mansell's World Championship
Sonic
Out Run
Paperboy
Road Rash

That's a bit wierd - I got mine down today, what a console

Street fighter II and Sonic the hedgehog, what games.

Also Altered beast.

Sonic 1 & 2
Chuck Rock
Toejam & Earls
Two Crude Dudes
Golden Axe
Fifa
Fever Pitch
Tiny Toons
Ecco the Dolphin
World of Illusion
Street Fighter
Road Rash
Streets of Rages
Kid Chameleon

I've probably put more hours into Sonic 2 than any other game ever, I played through it so many times. Sonic & Knuckles locked on with Sonic 3 is probably the best platformer I've ever played too.

Loved my Megadrive.

Super Nintendo shat all over the Megadrive - its crazy how far Sega have fallen since those days, although I suppose Atari went the same way ...

SF2 was miles better on SNES.

Loads of versions of arcade games on many different platforms at the time were shocking. In terms of Street Fighter 2, the Amiga version was a joke, a real joke, because if done well it could have been almost arcade perfect. A lot of the time many teams didn't even have access to the original source code or graphics/sound content, and secondly, the publishers couldn't be arsed in any case and simply rushed tripe out of the door. The SNES version was well done, but I expect that Nintendo had their hand up the arse of someone at Capcom.

This thread inspired me to play through a couple of sonic games, which in turn led to me to stumble across a hacked version of Sonic 1 called Sonic: Megamix.

It is actually brilliant. I won't post links because i don't know how legal it is, but do a search and check it out.

PM possibly...?

There's also a slightly older version of said game available to play online without the need to download anything. Still don't know how safe a link is to post mind.

NHL 96
John Madden Football 92
FIFA 95 (easily the best.)
Road Rash 2
F-22 interceptor
Jungle + Desert Strike (Urban was ok)
Flashback (best game ever made)
Speedball 2
Another World
Super Monaco GP 1 + the Ayrton Senna endorsed one.
Shinobi
Rocket Knight Adventures.
World Of Illusion
Shining Force 1 + 2
Phantasy Star 2 and 4

And my favourite forgotten gem. Landstalker. - Emulator and Rom that fecking game, it's a beast.

Street Fighter 2 on the Amiga is one of the most most dissapointing games i've ever played. It really was beyond terrible. To go from 6 buttons to 1 was crazy.

They knew how well it had done in the arcade and bagged it in with the console like PS2 did with GT3. Absolute guaranteed unit shifter with the 6 button pad as standard compared to the Meg's standard pad.

Still, can't beat a USB fighting stick and WinMAME :D

Oh good man. Shining Force 2 is probably my favourite game ever. I was an absolute nut for that game in my teenage years, writing small novels in that world and even drawing maps for the towns. It's the one game I still dust off the MegaDrive occasionally for and continue to play.

The other day I discovered one of the guys I work with was also a massive fan. Not to the extent that I was, but still enough that we spent an hour or so chatting about it.

Landstalker was probably my second favourite game on the MegaDrive, but unfortunately I never actually bought that. I had to make do with hiring it out a few times, and the same story for Shining Force 1 (my third favourite). lol, I just went and had a quick look at Landstalker on youtube, and just the noises in the opening credits bought back so many memories.

Like a few in this thread, the Megadrive was my first console. I can only remember Sonic and Streets of Rage, although I definitely had few other games for it. From my vague childhood memories, Streets of Rage was brilliant. I doubt it will have stood the test of time though.

Golden Axe
Shinobi
Sonic and Knuckles
Chameleon Kid
Streets of Rage
Street Fighter

Those were my favourites.
