Differences between his roles in the Argie NT and for UTD.
GENEVA (Reuters) - Juan Sebastian Veron served up a commanding performance in his country's warm-up against Cameroon and admitted that his more attacking game for Argentina suited him better than his role at Manchester United.
Veron roamed the midfield and sometimes took up attacking positions wide on the flanks as he had a hand in both Argentina's goals in a 2-2 draw in Geneva on Wednesday.
"I play more contained for Manchester," Veron told Argentine reporters after an exciting match at the small Servette stadium in which African champions Cameroon twice came from behind, saving it with an 86th minute equaliser by substitute Patrick Suffo.
"Here (with the national team) I play more to my liking," said the Argentina captain, adding to the suggestion he thrived in a family atmosphere: "Well, I'm with my friends, we've known each other for a long time."
Veron, the English premier league's most expensive player who cost 28.1 million pounds from Lazio in the summer of 2001, would not be drawn into a comparison with his performances for United, widely regarded in England as unconvincing.
His mistake last weekend led to the only goal in Middlesbrough's upset 1-0 win at United's Old Trafford ground that cost them the premier league lead last weekend as they chase a record fourth title in a row.
UNITED ROLE
Former Lazio playmaker Veron, who has always maintained he is happy at United, said his deep central midfield position on Wednesday was where he usually played for his club.
"I'm more used to it with my team (Manchester United) and (Pablo) Aimar's contribution was a bonus," Veron said suggesting that busy game as the midfield linkman with the strikers had helped him join in the attacks freely.
With Diego Simeone still recovering from injury, Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa has played Veron at the back of a midfield diamond but Veron has found the time and space to roam more than he does for United.
Valencia's Aimar, put through by Veron, was brought down and the Manchester United player converted Argentina's penalty in the 17th minute.
Aimar, running on to the end of a lightning counter-attack started by Veron's headed clearance from the edge of the box at a Cameroon free kick, brilliantly put away Argentina's second goal in the 63rd minute.
Veron said United had to be wary of Deportivo Coruna in their European Champions League quarter-final. The first leg in Spain is next week.
"They're a very complicated side to play and they've had good fortune with English teams so far," he said. "We're going to have to take many precautions for this match."
