I posted this in the match thread last night but it deserves a thread of its own
Manchester United are soon to undergo a season ticket amnesty because they reckon around 1800 season ticket holders have died and there familys are re-newing them season after season which is apparently not allowed
so should a relative of the deceased be allowed to re-new the season ticket

Weird nobody has started this yet

Red 'dead' Army
Manchester United have revealed that an estimated 1,800 of its registered season ticket holders are actually dead.

The fans are not cheering the Reds on from beyond the grave - their families have held on to the tickets so they would not lose a coveted seat at Old Trafford.

The club has now agreed to give the family members the chance to come clean.

If they do, they will get to keep the season ticket in their own name.

Families like to hand them down like heirlooms
Paddy Harverson, Manchester United

Paddy Harverson, the club's director of communications, said it was about taking a "common sense" approach to the issue.

"We want to give those fans who have season tickets in other names to go legit," he added.

"Season ticket holders can change the name on the ticket and we will turn a blind eye.

Family support

"It is the right thing to do, but it is difficult for those who are waiting for season tickets."

Mr Harverson added the amnesty was designed to strike a balance between recognising the strong family support the club has, whilst not alienating people in the queue for the sought-after tickets.

"It is quite common for clubs - particularly the bigger ones - for season tickets to be very much sought after and families like to hand them down like heirlooms because they are so valuable," he added.

Which bit and why?

Season tickets as property. What about people who have been going loyally for years and are not offered season tickets.

I know for a fact that some of the season tickets are passed from mate to mate and sometimes to highest bidder. The message much like the executive tickets is feck you loyal fans.

I know a United fan who gets their tickets from a tout who has a whole collection of season tickets. Now, I wonder how he managed to get his hands on so many of them....

Sure, and then someone else will take over. Why do touts exist? Because people who are not loyal United fans have got their hands on tickets which they then sell on to them. The only way to stop touts is to stop giving tickets to people who don't care about United and, as this amnesty has shown, that's never gonna happen, is it? :(
