Sean McGinty and Alberto Massacci

Great write up on both PS18, read both articles a couple of days ago while looking for more info on these two. Nice work!

Thanks very much mate.

We missed the news on James, Gill and Wootton turning pro while the board was down as well. Will be interested to see what's happening with the other second years - I'd heard Dudgeon had got a pro deal and I find it hard to believe Gill and Wootton got one while the likes of Dudgeon, Norwood and Stewart didn't...

I agree - particularly given that the three you mentioned were regularly involved in the reserves, especially towards the end of the season.

Is this McGinty a centre half?

The depth of the youth team along the back will be pretty good, I must say. I already think that Zeki Fryers and Tom Thorpe are very composed for their age and have a good scope for improvement.

He is. Friend of mine watched him for Charlton against Chelsea at U18 level last season and said "He's tall, plays the left side and is at least comfortable on his left foot. He's loud, leads very well, copes assuredly, hard to really judge much as we had a defensive midfielder up front, but I liked him."

As expected we have signed another few quality youngsters.. strengthening one of our weakest areas IMO i.e our defence.. A CB & a RB.. Well done!

Anyone has any more news about Alberto Massacci? Can't find anything to read up about him..

From trawling the internet.....

- 16 year old right back from Siena (Pianella e San Miniato) - think that was his junior team before joining Empoli
- played last season for Empoli's Youth team (Allievi Nazionale del'l Empoli)
- spotted by United in the "Gallini di Pordenone" Youth Tournament where he was named Player of the Tournament in April 2008
- 1.86m tall
- a Roma fan
- attends the Liceo Scientifico Galilea Galilei School in Siena
- his father was a very good basketball player while his mother was a good tennis player
- born on 27/5/1993 in Siena

May 27th 1993 by the looks of it.

Our Milk Cup team next year's going to be fearsome, almost all of second years will still be eligible (bar Tunnicliffe and Fryers off the top of my head).

I've never seen Massacci play. Can anyone tell me more about him? I presume he has impressed in the academy side? Isn't there another Italian defender in the academy also?

No one has seen too much of Massacci as he was injured for a fair chunk of the previous season and hence didn't have a real run in the side to make a decent judgement. He likes getting forward and is quite direct.

The other Italian defender is Michele Fornasier who is a typical Italian defender, gets very tight to the forward and loves defending although lacks a bit of pace.

Massacci released today via Steve Bartram on Twitter. Interesting considering the stage of the season that we're at and the fact that the last posts in this thread are regarding him signing pro in the summer of 2010. Wonder if he will stay in England or return to Italy?

Always a shame to see the foreign kids not make it here after no doubt making great sacrifices to be here. Hopefully the education they got here will set them up for another club.

He's hardly played since then due to injuries. Shame, but hopefully he'll have a decent career somewhere.

Quite a big lad but no luck with injuries. Very unlucky.

He was a fairly quick player with a decent cross - but he was injured practically all the time

Sadly even when he finally got himself fit this season (and he has been for most of it), for whatever reason he didn't get many opportunities. Always thought he had a little something about him that made me want to see him get more chances, but not to be.

Roma to take Massacci off Man Utd

Manchester United seem ready to release Alberto Massacci for a return to Serie A with Zdenek Zeman’s Roma.

The right-back had been poached from Empoli in 2009 as a 16-year-old, when he was still too young to be placed under a professional contract in Italy.

Now 18, he has struggled with injury during his time at United and it’s reported he will be released this summer.

Roma are thought to be making a proposal to Massacci, who are revamping under new Coach Zeman.

I'm pretty sure that Alberto Massacci was already released by us but it looks like could be on his way to Roma. Good move if it turns out to be true.

Its true though.
The italians need to close that loophole.
