LB from Schalke - Just signed for Arsenal on a free, really shrewd business.

Was hoping we'd be in for him due to our uncertainty of the position.

EDIT: Can we merge this thread with the one existing

I've seen very little of him, what kind of a left back is he? Attacking, defensive etc

I thought City were in for him? Surprised to see him pitch up at Arsenal. Unless Monreal is heading back to Spain, or they've finally realised Gibbs is dogshit, it'll mean they'll be well stocked there.

This guy has been linked to every club under the sun. I'm just glad he finally got a freaking transfer done.

Wow. Good business from Arsenal, a few posters on here said he is very good.

There was an old thread on here I nearly bumped earlier today after hearing the news but apparently it's not considered 'the thing to do'. But apparently you nearly signed him in 2014 before he did his cruciate ligament in.

A brick shit house. Very physical in 50-50s, big engine, pacey, good at reading and intercepting. Not a typical Arsenal technical signing, he gets his head up to pick a pass but his technique is pretty average, which maybe kind to him.

Very contrasting to Monreal who is technically a very good footballer, but often bullied for pace/power. Arsenal were looking at left backs all last summer so it's been considered a need for a while.

First player since Rooney to have 3 threads running simultaneously on the main page

Strange one. Kolasinac always striked me as a player with ambition.

I'm surprised Mourinho wasn't interested in him. Thought he'd like the 'Ivanovic-type'.

This season was the first one in which he had more than a handful of good games. Therefore, I'm cautious to label him very good.

He'd have been fantastic for Chelsea! Not sure playing for this Arsenal side will be good for him though.

Can't see Arsenal signing a 1st team player without a manager making the decision. It all points to Wenger continuing, as I don't believe they have a new manager lined up without the press knowing anything. Good news, unless you're an Arsenal fan of course.

Could be his parting present, like Zaha.

Yeah, good comparision.

Not that I mind that we didn't sign him, I'd say Ivanovic is his highest level, but I doubt he will be that good either. Very physical, naive and no doubt will get awful lot of yellow cards in the premierleague. He is also very injury prone, and very average attacking wise in his overall play, altough he can actually be useful in the final third mostly due to his determination. I am not sure he will improve Arsenal at all. He might miss lot of games due to injuries, which means he will settle well in Arsenal's defence.

That's my opinion on him by watching him mostly for our national team.

Cheers! Looking forward to seeing him playing in the prem. Can kind of see why they went for him, as like you said Monreal can lack physicality at times.

Well, since it's free transfer, it's pity we didn't try to go for him. And, of course, I would like to see one Bosnian in United shirt. :)

Like others said already, phyisically he is a beast, very strong and has good pace. His positioning and decision-making are questionable sometimes.

Offensively he improved a lot and can be a threat. I am lazy to check the stats, but I think he has few assists and goals this season.

Anyway, I think that's good business for Arsenal.

I recall watching a match where he scored an own goal or getting sent off for Bosnia.

I feel it was in the World Cup/Euros?

After what has happened with Xhaka, i don't trust Wenger anymore :D
Talking about him, he looks a beast defensively, exactly what we need.

Dont rate him. Think he is no big improvement to what they already have. At least he has a bit fight in him

Good luck to him. I hope he does well as a Bosnian. Need all our players performing well for the qualifiers going forward.

Monreal is a very good left back, but it's a good idea to have his long term replacement lined up already.

Quiaffured Hair. Sculpted beard. Young and impressionable.

He's an Arsenal player alright.

Already has torn his ACL once and is the kind of reckless defender who will get injured again IMO. He was brilliant before that injury, took time to get back to that level and is now looking very good again. Probably Schalke's best outfield player this season and the most consistent. He was the skipper for Schalke's u19s, when they won the German championship on that level in 2012.

Followed him for a while as I am Bosnian. Has improved a lot offensively lately. Used to believe he would develop into a CB with time, but doesn't seem like it anymore.

A good deal on the free for Arsenal. Can be a bit erratic at times though (in the style of Jones and Micah Richards).

That's exactly what Arsenal need. I'd always favour technique over physicality but you need a balance for when things aren't going your way.

Damn! I was hoping we would sign him. He could have been Jose's defensive minded full-back.

we tried signing him in January, to rotate with Alonso. But Schalke didn't want to sell him mid season.

Im happy he made a move to the prem but with his past injuries dont know if Arsenals the best club for that sort of player lol.

One thing I will say he will bring some balls to that team and I wouldnt be suprised if he was recommended to Wenger by his assistant from Bosnia Boro Primorac.

For the national team I have always liked Kolasinac and so glad he never went Liverpool or City, I couldnt live with that lol.
