Scousers looking forward to Chelsea match..!

They haven't won at Stamford Bridge in the Premiership, only got a point me thinks in 1995/96 season. Even gave them a 2-0 advantage did Chelsea in the F.A Cup, only to be rumbled 4-2, excellent match, I can remember it like yesterday. My Uncle(a liverpool fan) was well gutted, he had all relatives down his house and I could see the pressure on his face as Vialli, Gullit, Zola and Hughes ran riot. He was so embarassed, he didn't say much but he was horrified!

This will be liverpools first real test of whether they have what it takes or not to go all the way.

I predict a draw because liverpools syle is so drab especially away from home.

However if they lose this game it will signify that they cant handle the pressure and will cast doubts in the back of their minds for the rest of the season.

lets see how they do...

As a 'Pool fan I'd say it was touch and go how tomorrow's game goes. Chelsea love playing against us and I'm hopeful but not confident that we'll beat them.

HOWEVER, I have that game down as one of our 5 or 6 losses this season. After Chelsea we have Arsenal at home who we stuffed 4-0 last season. And this time they will be without Pires, Ljunberg AND Viera. So I won't be too disappointed if we lose tomorrow.

And if we win tomorrow, I expect a lot of youse lot slitting your wrists. OK! I can just sense the fear in this forum from the Manyoo faithful and its funny. ;)

You may or may not win tomorrow. I'd prefer you lose, but what's more important is that we're playing better. The quality of our recent oppponents aside, we're not making the defensive errors lately, and we're not conceding very many goals (1 in last 4 fixtures, including 3 clean sheets). If we build on this and gain momentum then I think we have a decent to good chance of retaining our title.

and three out of 4. One must start somewhere. ;)

Following on from yesterday's discussion, when I got shouted out, I stand by my decision to officially rule you out of the title run. I'm not saying Liverpool will win it, but with 6 losses already and a further 2 to come (realistically rather than optimistically) I think a good run is probably too late for you.

Saying that, Fergie has at last changed the formation and personnel to suit what Manyoo do best: defend as a team and break dangerously. I will watch the highlights tonight to see the difference.

You overestimate your club. I think you'll lose about 7 or 8 by the time it's all over. Of course the good news is that there is no universal number which disqualifies anyone. We could be back in 1st by February for all we know.

certain games can make or break your season as far as the championship goes. I think this is one of those games for liverpool, this is the kind of game where you start to feel the pressure and either rise to the occasion or buckle.

Anyway, i think liverpools challenge relies heavily on one thing; michael owen staying fit. Sure, you have hesky and litmanen but lets face it they are not of the same class and i would say if owen gets hurt for a long stretch, then liverpool will loose and draw enough games to let someone else in.

beating chelsea though would really put them in the driving seat and they would have to be favourites then.

you could say the same thing about arsenal (vieira), man yoo(keane), chelsea (jfh), and leeds (rio)...everyone's title ambitions would be pretty much dashed were serious injury to befall their best player.

Liverpool face a must win game today down @ Stamford Bridge - It may be worth pointing out the last time Liverpool beat Chelsea @ The Bridge they won the League that year.

Liverpool's defensive style will not be able to combat Chelsea's unconventional style of play and I think it will be one of those days for Liverpool.

The one man who I feel would be able to make a differance tommorrow is Jari Litmanen. He is Liverpool's most creative player and on his day is one of the Premiership's most talented footballers and if anyone can make a differance today it will be him.

There will be many smart and creative players out there - i.e. Mario Stanic, Jimmy Hasselbiank, Gianfranco Zole, but Litmanen would out think all of them and would put in a goal or two.

Emile Heskey must be dropped. He is having a poor run of form at the moment and two goals this season is not enough. John Terry will deal easily with him if he plays. Heskey is too predictable, and cool, calm defenders like Terry will just dispose of Heskey too easily. Litmanen though is someone who I feel Terry would have trouble marking.

Melchiot may have trouble with Owen but whether it is Gallas or Melchiot on Owen I doubt he will get his 100th Liverpool goal today, I just feel it will be a Chelsea day.

Team News (Chelsea)

Marcel Desailly and Emmanuel Petit are both still ruled out through injury.
Mark Bosnich, Roberto di Matteo, Jesper Gronkjaer and Jody Morris are all long-term absentees, the only other doubt is Graeme Le Saux, who came off against Newcastle in midweek after a virus.

Team (from): Cudicini, de Goey, Melchiot, Ferrer, Gallas, Terry, Babayaro, Le Saux, Jokanovic, Lampard, dalla Bona, Stanic, Zenden, Hasselbaink, Gudjohnsen, Zola, Forssell

Team News (Liverpool)

Vladimir Smicer will be back in the Liverpool squad after injury while Dietmar Hamman is out through suspension.

Team (from): Dudek, Carragher, Henchoz, Hyypia, Riise, Murphy, Gerrard, McAllister, Berger, Smicer, Litmanen, Owen, Heskey, Kirkland, Wright, Redknapp, Diomede, Biscan.

Its not a must win game at all. If they get beat by Chelsea Liverpool will still be top of the league. Chelsea are probably favored to win , at Stamford Bridge, and it wont be as big a disappointment as it was when Man Utd got scorched 0-3 at Old Trafford

When you lose 0-3 you get scorched. What is the English word when you lose 0-4? Anyone?

That's fair enough too. I'm hoping we only lose 5 or 6 games, but I have been through enough false dawns to know we can lose more. However, that puts us out of the running for the title same as it will you when you lose 7 or 8. That means the title will be between Leeds and Arsenal.

By the way 4-0, I'm gutted but not surprised. I was expecting a 2 or 3 nil loss, but not 4! I guess we'll have to take out our vengeance against poor old Arsenal next Sunday (last season we did them in 4-0).

Absolute fluke more like it. We dominated the whole game and should have won about 6-0 but Liverpool are an unlucky team, stuff like that happens to us!

I wonder you know... I reckon Liverpool are very vulnerable to a loss of confidence. They haven't missed Houllier so far but there comes a point when the pressure is on, when not having the boss around has to have an effect. Maybe losing to Chelsea so badly might just be the start of that pressure.

You'll just have to regroup and play well against Arsenal next week. I am hoping for a draw in that one, provided Arse beat Newcastle on Tuesday.

Our games with Arsenal are never draws and we usually hold a Chelsea like jinx on them (notice 4-0 drubbing and 2-1 FA Cup Final win last season). Let's hope I'm not dejinxing the jinx by stating the obvious. <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

I'm not so ashamed that I won't show my face here.

We were unlucky today, but I had a feeling that we'd lose it. Chelsea are inconsistent but always play well against us.

Turning point was the penalty save.

Still 3 points clear, still got a game in hand on your lot.
