Leeds United are in talks to sign young centre half Scott Wootton from 'old enemy' Manchester United in a bargain deal.

Leeds manager Brian McDermott wants the defender to sign this weekend and his money men hope the Old Trafford giants will help out with a low asking price.
Wootton wants to move to play football and is keen on the switch to Elland Road but they are low on funds.
Leeds want United to accept a deal with no money up front but extras paid after appearances and with bonuses on achievements.

Why not a loan deal? Certainly has potential.

We already have to younger CB's who are better than him and have a higher ceiling than him imo. However not sure I'd like to see us sell him to Leeds in a bargain deal. Even ignoring the fact that it's Leeds, he's shown enough to warrant a transfer fee up front with some add-ons included.

You never know 100% until the lads step out and get a couple of 'real' seasons under their belt. He's got enough potential to do that at least.

You'd think our managing stuff know very well whether he's good enough to make it. Doesnt seem so.

If he's sold and it is justified then fine. If they keep him or send him on loan and he matures then that's fine as well. You never really know in any case whether he'll be good enough but has shown at least some promise. He's not completely rubbish.

You can never be sure, but he's almost 22 and has never really been a player that stood out at any level and he hasn't had any particularly impressive loan spells. I would be very surprised were he to make it at United.

He's not completely rubbish, and has plenty of potential to make a good career for himself in the sport, but he's currently behind both Keane and Thorpe and would have work to do to get ahead of them for chances. That's not even taking into consideration the young centre backs in the first team squad (he's older than Jones and only a year or so younger than Smalling). He isn't likely to get a look in here, so a move away for games makes sense, for both parties.

Good luck to him.

He's showing balls signing for Leeds. He'll be under far more scrutiny than any other Leeds player for a long while. Wootton is a committed lad and should win them over with his endeavour, similar to Alan Smith did with us.

Good luck to him.

Good luck to the kid. He wasn't good enough to make it here, but he can be a good defender someplace else.

His short MUFC track record suggests he'll be a star compared to our current crop of players :p

Looks like that was his debut, yes? Good stuff.

Now that he's actually at Leeds, though, I'm hoping he doesn't do too well! I've only seen us play Leeds once, and though they won there's only so much you can hate a team for a single cup defeat.
