Massa with Kimi next year for Ferrari

It's the end of an era for sure, and this does smack that he doesn't dare to have a decent teammate alongside him

You don't half talk some shite sometimes.

Why not?

I am sure he could have gone on for another season if he wanted to, after all reports have been bandied around that Kimi was going to Ferrari in 07 even before his decision.

That's bullshit. Ferrari can't afford another top driver when they have Schumi on a huge contract and most top drivers wouldn't want to be second drivers to him because they know that Ferrari puts all focus on Schumi.

Kimi to Ferrari? Is this confirmed?

Yes.

"Sep.10 (GMM) Ferrari handed out a press release at Monza after the race confirming Italian grand prix winner Michael Schumacher's retirement after fifteen years in F1. The Italian marque also unveiled Kimi Raikkonen, with a three year contract, as his replacement, while Felipe Massa has renewed his deal until the end of the 2008 season. ''I've loved every single moment,'' Schumacher, 37, told reporters, ''the good and the bad.'' "

If Schumacher stayed on for next season he would have only got at most equal rights with Kimi, as at most he was going to stay on for one or two more years, whereas Kimi is the future.

Definitely one of the greatest drivers of all time. I read anarticle once in which they compared his driving to a computer program that found the most efficient driving and braking/peddling around a track and his was almost identical, which just goes to show just how skillful he is behind the wheel.

But what a bloody cheat too. Equal to his talent was his preparedness to bend, break and downright stamp on the idea of fair play till they were dust.

And don't give me that "driven to win" shite either.

He won't be missed by me.

Wow, I might start watching Formula 1 again, after all these tedious years

It's like Sampras, and Woods...no denying their ability, but they lack the charm to invest the sport with any interest when they dominate it for years

RIP Ayrton...Respect Each Other

Best F1 driver ever, I doubt the other drivers will miss him.

I always thought that he would retire like Senna since he seems to believe in his own invincibility.

Sampras and Woods would've been greats in any era.

For Federer and Shoemaker both the competition and the competitors are mediocre.

would be hilarious if kimi torches the competition next year with ferrari while alonso is plauged by merc's reliability.

I think alonso's going to lose this year's WDC and its going to crush his confidence.

No need to argue, definitely the greatest F1 driver of all time.

Schumacher was undoubtably technically excellent but he was also a slimey cheat.

Alain Prost was technically better.

Fangio had a better record, winning 24 GPs in 51 starts, and 5 championships in 8 years with 4 different teams...and a true sportsman too. Probably the best ever.

Jim Clark dominated the sport in the 60's much as Schumacher has done, but also turned his hand to rally driving, sports cars and saloon car racing. His win ratio was only margianlly lower than Schumachers, but would have undoubtably improved it had he not died racing Formula 2 of all things in the pouring rain at Hockenheim.

Ayrton Senna's talent surely eclipses that of Schumacher - 65 poles out of 162 races - and a nice bloke with tons of charisma who brought the crowds back to F1.

It was one of the happiest days of my life when i heard shumaucher was retiring. he is a dirty driver and if it weren't for what his teammates did for him, he would be nowhere today. As a Canadian, i hate him for attempting to knock out Jaques Villenueve in the Japanese GP in 96. And Villenueve still won the race and the championship!

but how about this new thing i heard, Renault is pushing to get Shumaucher out of retirement and join them, since Alonso is heading for Mclaren and Kimi is heading for Ferrari. This is gonna be one heck of an offseason.

Yeah, but you can only beat what's put in front of you. They may well have been greats in any era too.

who Shoemaker ?

Let me recollect - In 1993 when Prost won his final title, his Willams Renault and Shoemaker’s Benetton Ford were superior and powerful models compared to Senna’s McClaren. Still Senna won a lot of races and was giving both Prost and Hill a run for their title until his engine fecked up consistently towards the end as he had to retire in many races. Shoemaker even with a more powerful Benetton was simply the fourth best driver behind Senna, Prost and Hill.

Another highlight of Senna’s ability - Hakkinnen who was also driving the same McLaren along with Senna could not even get 5 points yet Senna with the same inferior model finished second only to Prost ahead of Hill

1994- After Senna’s death Michael Schumacher sneaked wins with his powerful Benetton. But from 96 to 99 Shoemaker was consistently twatted of by Hill, Villeneuve and Hakkinnen driving with lesser models.

FACT - Shoemaker even with a superior Ferrari was unable to compete even with the likes of Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinnen, Coulthard and others. Once Hakkienen ran away and others started to fade Schumi started to win for fun as his other competitors were crap. Also the moron lacked the charisma to entertain and has ruined the sport altogether. He would've won feck all had he raced along with Prost and Senna when they are in their prime

He dosent deserve to get mentioned along with the likes of Senna, Clark, Prost,Stewart or Fangio

His Benetton was crap until 94 and even then it had a weak V8 compared to the superior V10 of Williams, Benetton however seemed to respond better once the cars no longer had active suspension. It was Schumachers driving skills more than anything that won him the title in 94 and 95.

McLaren where crap in 92 and 93 it was also a well known fact that Senna wanted the Williams drive because he wanted another title and he saw Williams as the superior package.

Yep..Williams was a superior package and McLaren was crap..hence Senna preferred to move out.

1994- After Senna's death Hill was the only challenger and there was big gap between Hill, Schumacher and the rest yet Schumacher scrapped through luckily by a single point.

But he deserved the title in 1995.

What a crap way to end it! Suspected engine failure for Michael. First one since 2001 or something. Alonso can just cruise through Brazil now.
