Schmeichel leaving Leicester?

Its a baffling one isn't it. Unless of course Kasper is moving to another club and it hasn't been announced yet.

Teams have two good goalkeepers. And you really shouldn't make threads in this section when there is no evidence of him leaving.

Apparently zieler has joined Leicester

Surely he is not going there to be back up?

That's a good problem for Leicester to have, especially after Zieler's club was relegated. Wouldn't be surprised if K. Schmeichel's level of play will improve again with new/quality competition. They're in four proper competitions now and will need quality cover.

Stupid move by Zieler if Schmeichel stays. I can't see him replacing the league winning goalkeeper anytime soon. I don't rate Zieler that highly and doubt that any of the bigger German clubs was interested in him, so maybe Leicester was the best offer he got?

Or perhaps they have told him schmeichel is offski (could end up another valdes / de gea situation I suppose)

If he was fine with a spot on the bench Zieler probably could've found a bigger club.

If Schmeichel moves I would have thought it would be to another PL team. Everton should be after a keeper, Spurs too if Lloris went. Rumours of Hart leaving City and Courtois leaving Chelsea. Obviously he may prefer to go abroad but I would just be surprised if the likes of Barca and Bayern were scouting him that closely.

Very strange... as mentioned Everton should have been all over him (maybe they can go for Horn, but he probably isn't going to be as cheap), he must be confident of his chances of displacing Schmeichel, though I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Weird one this, I don't see a bunch of premier league or top european clubs lining up for Schmeichel tbh.

I think the reason is he's homegrown because he was in our youth academy for a period, and a certain amount of homegrown players are needed for the Champions League.

Does look that way, doesn't it. Can't see Zieler being content as a back up keeper.

I don't think it's that odd. Schmeichel has never impressed me that much. Great shot stopper but looks uncertain at times in the air.

Be a shame for him to leave for a club not in the CL after being part of the most unlikely journey into that competition ever.

Always gets me when someone says this about a keeper, what goalie isn't a good shot stopper? Isn't that a prerequisite of being a goal keeper?

To be fair he did say great.

Some are better than others at it. Like DDG is better than every goalkeeper at shot stopping.

I didn't think this made sense from Zieler's point of view, but then saw that his previous club got relegated. As such, Leicester could be the biggest club (bearing in mind what happened last season) where he feels like he actually has a chance of staking a claim for the number 1 role. May not be a big chance, but he might figure it's worth taking the risk for a season or two, and if it doesn't work out then move on to another mid- to lower-level club again.

I highly doubt Schmeichel would be going anywhere.

Like you say, shot-stopping is a prerequisite, but it's the bit that comes after the "great shot-stopper, but..." that is the difference between good and great keepers, and I guess that's why the phrase persists. For e.g. Steve Harper, Newcastle's second choice keeper for nearly a decade, was a 'great shot stopper' - an England #1 quality shot-stopper. But his distribution of the ball was laboured and regularly off-target, so he was actually nowhere near good enough for the NUFC #1 shirt (in the Premier League, excellent for The Championship season) never mind being the England #1.
