Schmeichel junior signs Man City terms
Manchester City will have a Schmeichel between the posts for years to come after Kevin Keegan snapped up Peter Schmeichel's 15-year-old son Kasper on a long-term contract.
The teenage goalkeeper this afternoon put pen to paper on a deal covering schoolboy, scholar and professional terms.
Schmeichel senior, 38, is seeing out his playing days at Maine Road - and has been so impressed by the City set-up that he encouraged his son to join as well.
The former Danish international, who rose to fame at Manchester United, said: 'I've found the club to be very well organised, with professional people, great coaching staff and a terrific manager.
'I'm thrilled Kasper is going to be part of all this. I know he's really excited about what the future may hold for him here.
'My wife and I are delighted my son has impressed the management and staff enough to be offered such a wonderful opportunity.
'And we're equally delighted that Kasper will make his first steps to achieving his football ambitions with Manchester City.'
Keegan, who beat off inquiries from other clubs to snap up 6ft-tall Schmeichel junior, added on mcfc.co.uk: 'I'm delighted Kasper has joined us - and by offering him this deal, it's obvious we think highly of his ability.
'If he continues to work as hard as he has done so far, he may even be able to follow in his father's footsteps!'
