He said: “I am delighted to be back.

“I really enjoyed my last spell here – it’s a great club with top players and passionate fans.

“I can’t wait to get started now.

"I believe it can be a special season for all of us and I will be working hard each and every day to produce the kind of performances that will help us achieve what we’re aiming for.”

Good move (again) for him. Unfortunatley for him he has to play with John Terry every week.

This is my 4th time watching him this season .....(against Leeds)... I find him to be utterly uninspiring.... Doesn't command his box.... Doesn't seem to communicate well with his defenders....looks overweight...if he ever plays for Utd again I would be amazed!!

Probably why he's been content with being third choice for so long.

He is a good keeper, i expect him to play in the Premier League regularly at some point

I thought he had potential but as long as Romero is here, there's no competition for #2. Pereira has his work cut out for him as it is.

Only has a contract to june 2018, but United have an option to extend it to 2019. That's why it's so "cheap". Pretty sure that United wanted to do it only to get some money for him, although Johnstone is a decent keeper his future is not at United. Good deal for United, pretty harsh on Villa though.

And then there's Dean Henderson, who's been getting rave reviews on loan at Shrewsbury.

Made sense to get whatever they could for Johnstone and add it to the transfer kitty for the summer.

Surprised he'd want a move to West Brom. They're relegation elect at the min it seems, and would he get in the first team week in week out ahead of Ben Foster?

Agreed. I would probably sign for Villa if I was him. Sure place there, pretty big club and maybe a promotion to the Premier League. Sure, Foster is old but it's risky.

Yeah, I would rather be at the Villa too i think - unless WBA are promising significantly better terms, and he crosses his fingers that they avoid the drop!

I spoke to a Villa fan mate at work, and he reckons that Villa can't afford him. Apparently they're on the brink of FFP and their owner can't get any money out of China.

Aston Villa owner:

Amazing double save there by Sam. Forced to watch the Championship as no sky at the lakes! :(
