I used to go to the Willows a lot. It will however get swallowed in the Northern hemisphere by professional Rugby Union in time.

I don't really follow rugby league but I have watched it and enjoyed it in the past. When asked who I support I am obliged to say Saints because I've been living in St. Helens for ten years and they are the only rugby that team that I have been to the ground to watch. So, what is going on in Super League at the moment then? Even though this town is obsessed with rugby league I never hear any discussions about it.

Well the saints today have booked themselves into the semis of the Challenge Cup by beating Warrington 25-14.

Good Lad! I have been a big Salford fan since I was 4! I was taken there as a child, just a walk thru Buille Hill Park, as my Dad played Rugby League. Over 30 yrs have passed since then and until 5 yrs ago I attended every (as close as) match, home and away. Salford RLFC (or Reds , I have never got used to that) were the original Red Devils, nicknamed by the French (in French of course, Rouge something or something Rouge!) on tour when Salford beat the France International side, Manchester United adopted the name years later. They had a great season last season under Karl Harrison and finished in the Super League playoffs , this season has seen them decimated with injuries and some unrest has seen Harrison lose his job, Shaun McRae (Ex St Helens/Hull coach) has just taken over. They can avoid relegation , they have the players, but they need to keep them fit and start getting some points. They lost by a last minute drop goal at St Helens last week, I was very disappointed. I hope you keep looking out for them, they are very close to my heart being a Salford boy!

A great response there mate, and yea I caught the St Helen's match it was very close and im not sure but weren't we close to winning that game? also I cant wait until Friday for the next game, I definitely will keep my eye out on the team because the more I watch them the more I enjoy not only the team but the rugby game itself as I am quite new to the game. I think what attracted me to Salford Reds is they seem to be the rugby's version of ManUtd in terms of appearance and like you said they came up with the Red Devils idea then ManUtd later adopted it and of course Its a Manchester team :). One last thing can you buy replica shirts for rugby teams and if so how much do they usually go for.

Widnes fan here, watched them all my life but a little to young to remember our glory years, Hopefully we should be back in the top flight where we belong next season as for the first time in years we seem to have a team willing to put some effort in and some super league quality players.

Think salfords problem is they have to many pricks like simon finnigan in the team, hated that bastard when he played for us.

Hi again, yeah replica kits are available. They may not be too widely available as the sport is not exactly widespread in England despite many years of trying to get it off the ground in the South. They are definitely available from the Willows and I would strongly suspect you would get them on Salford precinct. I moved away from Manchester (unfortunately) 5 years ago but Salford used to have a shop on the precinct.
Despite certain peoples views that Salford have 'too many pricks' playing for them, we finished in the play offs last year and still have mostly the same players, trouble is they have been injured so far this season. All my family still live in Salford and are Salford mad ( and United of course! ) and they know Harrison ( coach recently sacked ) had been unpopular this season, the players ( when fit! ) were not exactly motivated by the way he failed to handle the injury crisis and defeats, apparently Fergie's hairdryer was lame in comparison. Anyway he has gone now and McRae in, so lets hope the squad that did so well last year can keep fit and play well for the new coach.
Rugby League is a fine sport at the top level, very very tough and physical. The difference between League and Union is the defences. The defences in League are far far superior ( Union have adopted League defensive coaches over the years , example Phil Larder, in an attempt to improve ) and appreciating that means appreciating successful attacks much more so than in Union, or in other words, anyone can pass and run 60 yards and score if the opposition are not equipped to stop you! If you want to see League at its fastest and most skilful and brutal watch the State of Origin games in Australia (on sky) between Queensland and New South Wales. I hope you continue to enjoy the sport.

Salford 5 -2 'quins

The first ever Super League game without a single try, defences were definitely on top in this game.

After Salford's Home game against Hull on 1st july was postponed due to flooding, The Red Devils can now look on towards Wakefield Wildcats tonight at 8pm. With the City Reds at the bottom with 11 points and the Wildcats sitting nicely in 6th place with 17 points its not going to be an easy match, but the battle for survival is most definitely on.

Come on Salford!

Hull KR vs Hull FC This weekend should be interesting, once again the city will be buzzing.

I follow Australian Rubgy league :)

Same here, it's much better quality than the super league and has better players. I happen to support probaly the most inconsistent team in the NRL; the Warriors. One week they win by 30 points against a top of table team, the next week theyre dropping points at home to bottom of the table clubs. :wenger:

Well the Aus teams don't go so well playing the english teams:smirk:

and yeah mate the warriors are great team to watch. I support the broncos myself:D I try to go to most suncorp games - the match against the titans last friday night was the best i've ever seen.

Final score Salford City Reds 18 Wakefield Wildcats 35.

can only just bring myself to post again on this thread after this result. Gutted. I still have faith, I know we are better than this. We will finish above the Robins, we HAVE to.

COME ON SALFORD! stick with us mancboi :)

Another loss for Salford against Wakefield on July 6th has left the City Reds desperate for a win to try and drag themselves out of the bottom place. Today they have that opportunity against the Warrington Wolves at 3pm. Warrington are currently in 10th place with 14 points thats 3 points more than Salford and all the Red fans know its becoming a do or die moment for the City Reds, one things for certain though the fans will continue to back them no matter what.

COME ON SALFORD

Final score Salford City Reds 6 Warrington Wolves 42.

A disappointing result for Salford today, I had my hopes up we may battle it out and beat them before the match but it quickly became apparent it was going to be Warringtons game. Maybe next Saturday we will gain that much needed win against Bradford.

Boi, this weeks defeat was to Warrington....last week was the Wildcats.

Next weeks is to the Bulls.

Yea sorry about that mate I knew who were were against but I just got confused when I was typing the scoreline i was just pissed off, anyway cheers for spotting the mistake out mate.

Yeh, getting beaten so often it must get confusing. ;)

I used to watch Batley RLFC get beaten EVERY week.

Salford Reds pulled off a spectacular win over Bradford Bulls at The Willows 2 years on the go and this also means that Salford are now a point away from Hull Kr.

Final Score

Salford City Reds - 14 Bradford Bulls - 10

Bollocks!! Salfords the team to support mate and we will catch the Robins up don't you worry, don't see you beating Warrington either.
Why not? we've beaten some of the top teams already this season. Never doubt the robins.

Following on from the Reds superb victory against against Bradford Bulls last week and Hull Kr's loss to Warrington hopefully now Salford can look forward to creeping upto joint points with the Robins with a needed win against Hull FC today at 3:15pm, One thing is for sure the Salford Reds are not going down without a fight.

FC will lose, just so that you can catch up with the mighty HKR!

Final score between Salford City Reds and Hull FC

Salford Reds - 26 Hull FC - 48

A tough game with the City Reds going down 26 - 0 at the first 28 minutes it looked grim from the start but with 5 tries scored by the Reds they hung on for a less humiliating defeat.
