Greatness ...... well about 10 games from it actua
i think everyone agrees that we need another striker as we arn't half the attacking force when RVN isn't playing as OLE needs a strong striker to play with and forlan isn't a RVN style striker at all he seems to play deeper than all three.
But this article is from planetfootball usually shite but in this case it seems fairly possible ..

.. <a href="http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=112477&cpid=21&title=Salas+green+light" target="_blank">SALAS</a>

.... i've always liked this player but is he the same player he was a couple of years ago?, is he too much like RVN? would he cost much?
he seems willing to leave and although UTD aren't linked, do people think that if he was to leave in the window we should be interested ????

Didn't Bosnich snub United once? I can't believe Bosnich was brought in without Ferguson's say so.

want about BLANC ?

i see a flaw in your logic ... Blanc rejected us at least once before coming so i see know reason why SALAS couldn't do the same.

Salas isnt half the player he was a few yrs back, we can most definitly do much better.

Well you do have a point but when United were well aware of Salas's unrest at Lazio but there was no approach, not even a rumor linking him to Utd which shows that Alex has no interest in the player.

Well from what I understand, that's exactly what happened. Fergie get a call from Martin Edwards saying something like 'guess what Alex. I've just got Mark Bosnich on a free!!!'

Pretty sure it's in SAF's autobiography. And that AF was not all that pleased as he wanted Fabien Barthez that summer.

Everyone might have yesterday. :)

(Alright, I know it was "only" Olympiakos.....)

And no to Salas. He's ugly. ;)

He wants to go in January what i have heard and Spurs,Barca and we are interested, surprise surprise lol.

Oh for crying out loud. There's no way Fergie would allow anyone signing a player (and a first choice goalkeeper at that!) for him. Blanc was never in the position to say 'no' to United as he always had contracts with other clubs, and while there were talks of our interest in Salas we never actually went for him - so he never rejected us.

I thought we went after him very hard while he was still at River PLate, and Fergie even flew out to watch him himself. Unfortunately he signed for Lazio when we were in pole position, probably because we haggled over ½ million here or there.

Now if we could get Salas circa his River Plate and WC98 form, then I'd be all for it. He was verrrry good back then. Question is, will he ever get back to that.

How old is he now? 28?

I dunno, at that age I'd only do it if the price was right. There would potentially be no great sell on fee for a 29 year old who'd sign for say 3 years. I think I'd rather go for a younger forward to add to the squad. We've already got 2 "senior" forwards n RVN and Ole.

What does he have that would significantly improve the team?

Pace? He's got none.
Dribbling skills? Perhaps
Thundering shot? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
Headers? Yeah, he's good in the air
Creativity in the box? Perhaps a little.

Sum: Not good enough.

:( hardly sounds like he's gonna light up the terraces if friends above are anywhere near correct.....we need the best surely..."Average & Ugly" is not much of a recommendation <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

so who are the actual possibilities? remember that the best forwards are probably playing in the champions league so they would be ineligible.
what about hasselbaink or gudjohnsen from chelsea?
chelsea seem to still be desperate for money so they might need to sell one of their best players. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

he snubbed us three times..

would've loved to have seen him here 6 odd years ago.

i´ll take eidur gudjohnsen instead... thank you very much

I agree with Jens. Gudjohnson would be a great buy. His record is just about 1 in 2 and he has a sack load of assists as well.

Didn't he play in the UEFA Cup for Chelsea though? Doesn't that mean he is cup-tied for all European competitions?
