Salas: Come and get me Fergie...
Juventus star Marcelo Salas last night revealed he would love to play for Manchester United. The Chile striker, who has been watched by Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson several times, said: "Without doubt playing for Manchester United is a dream for me. It is a club that has won everything, with an immense tradition and is always in the elite of the football world.

Salas is a great player, surely.

But, I hate the way that these 'old' players from Italy have of first snubbing us for Italian teams to spend the crux of their careers there. And when they are no longer being considered starters in Italy, then they come and tell us:

"Come and get me! I would love to play for you!"

I am sorry but, this really stinks of hypocrisy.

Actually, we were all set to sign Salas a few seasons back but Fergie decided at the last moment to pull out because Cole was in such hot form. Later admitted he made a big mistake in not strengthening the attack.

It's well documented, so can't blame Salas for that one.

However, I think Cisse is the player are seriously interested in in the summer.

You confuse me, dude... You make feel totally unappreciated while making me feel appreciated at the same time!!! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Just kidding... I have always had contempt for players like Batistuta and others...

Yeah, Batistuta, Totti, Vieri, Del Piero, they're all crap.

Batistuta IS crap(was good though), Totti is overrated, Vieri will never be what he should be because of dodgy hamstrings and liking to party too much, Del Piero is excellent(hampered by injuries too).

Next.

I never said they were crap. My contempt for them is not about football. But about their attitude towards English teams and, as it so happens, their attitude towards Manchester United.

To be fair to the Italians, they would prefer playing in Italy. That does not apply to South Americans like Salas and Batistuta.

Well, I guess most people would rather like to stay in their homecountry, and with a league of their standard I can't really see why any one of their top players would like to move on.
Btw, the names stated were examples, the premiership would be of much lower quality if it wasn't for the foreign players. Like it or not, about 60 % of the starting line-up in the premiership are not from the UK. If one doesn't want to sound like a hypocrat one should deal with one's attitude to that simple fact first. For us, the situation is better. We have a percentage of 54 ( I think ) % non- UK starters.

When it comes to Vieri, how anyone can find anything whatsoever negative about that player....it amazes me. That guy scores as much as Ruud. He is on 16 ( or 17 ) league goals in Italy now, five more than the next guy. And this is not the first time he is the top scorer.
Batistuta is one of the deadliest forwards I have ever seen, so give him some respect, will you.

I honestly don't think Italian players dislike Manchester United or the way we play. I actually think they have the greatest respect for them, just like our players respect Juve. That a top player wouldn't recognize another top player is unlikely. Any player in the world respects Scholes, Beckham, Keane(specially Juve!),Veron, Giggs, Butt, Nistelrooy, Sunny, Rio, aso.

But what is wrong with a player loving his team more than any other team in the world ? That's a good thing that we see too little of in football these days, and we should respect that.

what you do not understand, is we tried to buy him a on numerous occasions before 98/99 season.

but he refused to come, if he loved us so much he would have done a Rio type situation and forced his transfer.

Now because he can't make the Juve team regulalry, he thinks he can tempt us, by saying this crap.

sorry mate but your too slow for what United need, we need a skillful pacy attacker who is young but proven, Cisse, or Ronaldhino.

He's a very good goal scorer, his record at international level is world class, especially considering the country he plays for.
He's never been given a fair crack of the whip in Italy, and given regular football, he'll score a truckload of goals. But we alredy have Ruud, who is a similar type of goal scorer and I can't see the two forming an effective partnership.
Woudl strengthen our attack immensly, but will he be prepared to paly seconf fiddle to Ruud? I doubt it.

I acknowledged already about Italians preferring to play in the Serie A. That makes sense. But, not, I repeat, in the case of South Americans like Salas.

Salas will train at the Herdgang next week. I'll try to ask him.

He can feck off, should've signed for us the first time.

Tosser.

I agree. I was under the impression he turned us down, rather than Fergie pulling out - I mean, at the time can you see Fergie not wanting to have Salas? I can't.

Besides, he's ugly. ;)

It wasn't SAF who called the deal off.
