How much do you think SAF has at his disposal for the new players?
With Liverpool about to spend a total 27-28 million after the Bowyer deal (4 for Cheyrou, 5 for Diao, 10 for Diouf, 8-9 for Bowyer), I think SAF deserve to have at least 15 million more than the scousers do for shopping.
Unless SAF is getting atleast 40 mill, or our board is really not acting like they should. Early reports suggested SAF would only get 20 mill, if that's the case then it is plainly rediculous.
We are the richest club in the world, we are making the most profit, we have the highest crowd and the most support, so we should act like one.
5-6 players have left and we should be getting atleast 3-4 new faces to replace them. But from my estimate, we can hardly afford 3 if SAF has 30 mill, and would be stretching for 4 if he gets 40 mill. (Players of our quality are usually >10-15 mill due to the price hike).

Typical, the "Liverpool are spending money, why ar'nt we?" brigde are getting restless.
Have patience dear boy, who is favourites for next yrs title?

Arsenal 7/4
Liverpool 3/1

Betandwin.com

Arsenal 3/2

I was thinking, we are still the favourites. Our form from Christmas on last season was excellent. We just created a slightly too big a mountain to climb.

Are you a yank?

All this bring in 5 new faces talk is all well and good but most of it is a knee jerk reaction to our empty trophy haul last season.

With Veron and RVN chomping at the bit to get some silverware, and the rest stinging from a below par season.... and we need is one quality center half and we'll be firing on all cylinders again.

Worry thee not :)

ps. I had posted that we get a new keeper, but like the others Fab has a few doubters to prove wrong too.

We don't need 4 or 5 new players. You can't just get every squad member by new signing. Some of the player left should be able to be refilled by our current players in the reserve. From a number of previous discussion here it is generally accepted that we need 2 or at most 3 new signing. I guess Fergie will have the fund to buy two, more than that will require us selling our current player.

Favourites tag means nothing, it wont get us any points will it? One of our problems last year was our strnght in depth, we didnt have the quality players to bring in when established stars were injured. Look at the Arse/Pool when they had injuries, they were able to fill the gaps with quality full internationals. We for the 1st time in ages didnt have the quality comming through(or maybe the hunger/desire was not there by those who got their chance). The only back up who came into the team last year and was Nicky Butt. Before you all jump on me saying he's not a back up, HE IS! He is not a regular midfoeld starter when everyone is fit but he showed the hunger and desire that not many others showed throughout the season. Maybe its been too easy the last couple of years but will the team be able to up the gears like 2-3 seasons ago cos they didnt do it last season. I think they will but I also dont think SAF will stand for any crap this time round and will change the team regardless of who it is.

IMO, SAF has about 20 million + money from wages of players released...irwin, johnsen, raimond VG, wallwork and a couple of GK's. + ....anyone else I have forgotten.

I would say 2 players in...

SAF also has to show us what Djordic can do. I thought he did well against Celtic in the friendlies, Stewart needs to be blooded in and chadwick needs some muscle so he does not get pushed of the ball as easily. Wes needs some sessions with a sports psychologist to gain more aggression when he plays ....in fact all special youth players should have some sessions with a sports psychologist...There's even the child prodigy Flemming.....

Dont worry the future is bright.....

How do you know that? Are you on the board? Or are you SAF?

The Nike money kicks in this season (£20 million a season). Also Utd had one their most profitable season's ever (£30 million profit (that includes Becks new deal & last season's transfers) in the first 6 months. That may have grown to around £60 million for the full year.)

As Fergie was all set to leave there would have been a significant transfer kitty for the new manager - hence the board's reluctance to finance any other transfers, e.g. Di Canio.

In addition Utd have tended to be quite conservative with transfers. last season's outlay of £57 million needs to be understood on the basis that the Van Nistelrooy money (£19 million) came from the season before's transfer kitty (which Fergie used sparingly - £7 million I think?). The sale of Staam (£16 million) meant that in reality Utd spent around £12 million last season.

TBH, from recent interviews, the way Utd operate now is to look at who they/Fergie want then decide how to finance it. I don't think he's given a £20-30 million budget and told to cut his cloth to suit.

Well, I still think that we need at least 3 new players. Last week Irwin said that we need 2 new defenders, which I take to be a FB and a CB, 1 to replace Irwin and 1 to replace Johnsen. Then we definitely need a new 4th striker, since Yorke is no longer playing. All other top teams (Pool, Arse etc.) have 4-5 strikers. The season is long, and Utd will play more games than every other top teams in Europe. We will struggle if either RVN or OLG gets injured for anything more than a couple of weeks. Forlan will take another while yet to come good, and Giggs and Scholes can only be a short term solution. So, to buy the 3 players we need, we've got to have quite a large tranfer kitty.
