I wonder if Woosie has phoned SAF. Sam reckoned Fergie's advice on getting the best out of a team of international stars proved invaluable in 2002. Sam also took advice from Sven, which he reckoned was useful, but that Fergie's was like golddust.

"He [Alex] has been magnificent. Always on the phone when I needed him. In fact, he phoned me last Tuesday with advice and again last night (Sunday) to congratulate me," he [Sam] told The Sun newspaper.

Ferguson admitted that Europe's victory has been one of the most extraordinary sporting events he had ever witnessed. "I honestly don't think I've been gripped by a day's sport, other than football, more than I was on Sunday," he said. "It was absolutely tremendous. What a performance by Sam and the boys."

Torrance added: "Alex tried to explain what it's like to manage a team. "He said there are no superstars they are all the same. That was the key".

"Everyone made a major part of the team, from the rookies to the big names. Sven-Goran Eriksson was also helpful, but, no disrespect to him, Alex's words were the most useful."

Eek - it's getting tight already... Monty & Pod have pulled a hole back, and the rest all down to Europe one up!

This Ryder cup larky is alot more pornographic then I thought.

as somebody who hates the fact we're in the EU, should I be supporting Europe?

The Ryder Cup predates the EU by a long way, and if makes you happy to think so, will outlive it by a long way too. So I can't see a problem for you.

Would be great to win 3-in-a-row...... I think the tie around 9/1 is a good bet, that would also mean that Europe would retain title.

Think it was tied twice in 90's.........last being when Langer missed easy putt to win it, thereby the contest was tied. The USA being the holders, therefore retained the cup.

ah

still think Europe will win it, 5-3 is a good lead, and as long as they contain tiger and dimarco, we should be alright

Well the teams mostly british and irish, only 2 from spain and one from sweeden..

gotta be much better than supporting america!!!

this is a tight one, but i think europe will finish on top today

okay, go the British and Ireland and three other blokes team!

Not even a question as who was going to win it. Europe were a team and the US don't even like each other. Congrats Team Europe on the 3-Peat!

I feel really good for Darren Clarke, after going through what he had to with the loss of his wife then going undefeated in the biggest competition in team golf. What a fantastic display!

Well, that was a bit of a hammering wasn't it.

Golf on the radio...class. "And he's putted it, and...it's going along...going along a bit more...will it go in? NO! It didn't quite go in..."

Why has Woosnam got an irish accent these days?

i know i'm a bit late, but i just want to say i love it when the americans lose at a sport they supposedly "dominate". for example, the world basketball championships, when they lost to Greece. i was simply overwhelmed with joy. now, at the Ryder. Americans should "dominate" at golf since they have the best in the world but once again, they don't.
