Ryan Tunnicliffe signed professional terms for the club yesterday after turning 17. Very good prospect and I really like watching him play because he gives 100% in every game

Fully deserved, he's been probably the most consistent player in the Academy this season and his game has really come on. He's also looked very comfortable at reserve level and shown some versatility with his recent perfomances at right back.

He reminds me of a young roy keane (style). Hopefully he'll keep progressing because he often get's overlooked. He's actually got a good chance and being able to play in different positions is very good.

Manchester United may have to increasingly rely on products of their youth system in the next few years as the purse-strings are tightened. It is a good thing therefore, that there is such promising talent coming through the ranks. There is already a batch of youngsters in the first-team squad with the likes of Welbeck, Rafael, Fabio and Obertan set to have bright futures in the game. There is more good news in the under-18 and reserve sides and as well as the exciting Ravel Morrison, a young midfielder by the name of Ryan Tunnicliffe has been creating a stir.

Tunnicliffe is a 17-year-old midfielder who was handed a three-year contract last week. He has already drawn comparisons with the likes of Roy Keane and Steven Gerrard for his all-action midfield performances for the under-18 side last season. He is attempting to make an impact in the reserve side now and the United management staff have high hopes that he will feature for the first-team at some point during his new contract.

The player only has to look at Darron Gibson to see that if he works hard in training and impresses for the reserves, he will be given an opportunity in the first-team if he deserves it. He has great energy on the pitch and his fully committed displays for the reserves have gained him many fans. He has also shown some versatility recently as he has been utilised as a right-back in some games and performed admirably in an unfamiliar position. He is good with the ball at his feet and has good technique for one so young; powerful for his age and expected to get stronger, he could be real midfield powerhouse in the future.

There is still a long road ahead for Tunnicliffe but he is certainly one to watch out for. He has impressed for England at youth level and is growing in stature for the United reserves. It is too soon to compare him to Roy Keane, but he is definitely a talent worth looking out for.

bloody ell...compared to Roy Keane and Gerrard??? must be some player....

We're blessed at youth level. People always get fixated with one or two names but Ryans quality. I don't think i've ever seen him have a bad game. He IS like a young Roy Keane. He isn't as vocal as Roy was, he's probably like Roy when he was younger

Note that, he's that type of player. Not overly flashy. He's got a great chance and what that article doesn't say is he's good for a few goals too

Based on the academy game highlights and his 2 performances at full back for the reserves, I'd say he looks more confident on the ball this season. Off it he's always been class, both ways.

Yeah you're right, he has a great ability to arrive in the box late to get a few goals too. He's one of a rare breed, a genuine box-to-box central midfielder - a real all action type of midfielder. He has a lot of quality on the ball too, his passing (short and long) is very accomplished and he can really be the driving force in the centre of the field.

Definitely a player to keep an eye on, he's only still very young (even in comparison to his teammates) so it's best to see how he develops because his role encompasses a lot and stepping up levels in central midfield is especially tricky.

How many games has he played for the reserves this season? United Youth dont seem to be up to date. Really miss that feature. :)

(Love this page. Those who run it deserves a lot of credit!)

How is he coming along this season? Has the improvement in passing and control from last season continued? With Mags gone and Morrison in the doghouse it would seem him and Pogba have been presented with a golden opportunity to properly step up to the reserves.

He's been v impressive again. He's a real driving force from the middle of the pitch, but also has some subtlety in his play showing quick feet and a nice weight of pass. I rate him, his attitude to the game is exemplary and he's quite mature for his age.

Imo he is a player who will either go incredibly far - or not at all. He is probably the closest thing to a Gerrard I have seen from any young United-player for the last 15 years.

But his ability with the ball isn't good enough alone to make his a top-class player - it's his drive, his determination, his fighting-spirit and his will to win that might make him a top-class player

He is one of those players I really hope will make it (I mean I hope they all do - but maybe his type more than others) - because we have lacked that kind of player for so long.

"Clough's advice to me before a game was: you get the ball and pass it to another player in a red shirt. That's really all I tried to do at both Nottingham Forest and Manchester United – pass and move – and I made a career out of it".

This is probably a even better advice today then it was back then.

On a side note I would like to add that Tunnicliffe is a player who has been matched perfect. He is only a couple of months older than Morrison (recently turned 18) and has played about fifty games for our U18-team, and close to twenty games for England at U16 and U17. Also seemed to be a regular in our reserves under Solskjærs management - would be a shame if that change.

Competetive match practise seem underrated in England.

Every team needs a few of those players - but you also need a few players who get the ball and don't pass :)
