Out of contract next summer and has looked really good for Southampton so far this year.

Couldnt find any thread or discussion on him - worth a punt in January?

He's actually not all that good, to be honest. Doing well at Southampton, but that's probably his level.

They're in second so not a bad level to be at. :D

He's a decent player, I didn't want him in the summer because he's not good enough to start for a team wanting to win trophies. He's a decent enough back up to have in a top four squad though. Wouldn't mind him replacing Enrique and having Manquillo, Flanagan, Moreno and Bertrand. Rodgers rates him, but I suspect he'll end up staying at Southampton.

City could have a look at him. Can't be worse than Clichy and he's English.

That isn't true, he was not out of his depth in his performances at Chelsea at all, just wasn't a big enough name for them. He's a very good player.

He's not a bad player, he's playing well at Southampton. He's pretty average, though.

Thd OP asked should with sign him and my reply was a response to that. He wasn't happy at Chelsea being back up and he will be 26 at the start of next season, and will also have been first choice at Southampton for a full season. I doubt he would really want to move to us as a back-up player at this stage of his career.

I suppose that's fair. But then I see him in a Sturridge kind of bracket as a player whose worth to a top club cannot be fully determined until he's really given a go there. He was a huge favourite of Di Matteo at Chelsea, and he didn't let him down either. He was selected to start the CL final even. If he got his move to Liverpool, I think he could at least enjoy a career similar to say, Glen Johnson's level.

I actually was convinced that Liverpool would sign him this summer. He would be best staying at Southampton and playing first team football, if the opportunity arose. He would do his international career no harm at all being first choice and playing well there.

Chelsea wouldn't sell to anyone they saw as a rival, says a lot about what they think of us when they sold Mata.

He's done very well for Southampton, I suppose it could be expected as he's prob better than Shaw at the minute but Shaw has more potential.

Of course I'd rather have Shaw than Bertrand but Southampton look a better side with Bertrand getting forward from lb while Shaw didn't contribute much in attack last year.

What? That's news to me?
But ignoring that, he still wouldn't strengthen united.

He'd be wise to stay at Southampton in my opinion. He is another of many that stall in their development because they are buried somewhere in a big club and never get playing time on the field. I think he can still improve if he is first choice at Southampton for 2-3 years and they maybe get Europa league or something like that for some international exposure.
