He seemed to be pointing for ages ?
Was there a banner up there for him or something ?

I think he pointed at the crowd after scoring at The Valley. I think he's just pointing at the crowd in general and he's grown quite attatched to that "Ruud" chant, because he starts laughing when he hears it. My theory anyway.

I've also noticed many players point to the crowd or make gestures to them somewhat.

If it's towards their fans then it's a smily face to go with the pointing. If it the opposition's team then Roy Keane will express it best whenever he scores away from home.
