Ruud v Law

Ever hopefull

Can anyone tell me what Dennis Law's European record actually was. I know it was outstanding, close to a goal a game.
I only ask because Ruud now has 15 european goals in his last 14 games. Which is incredible.
He must in line for beating Law's record for goals to games ratio.

Ruud's beated Law already hasn't he? Denis had 14 goals. Must be short odds on Ruud beating the club record - 17 goals by Cole.

If I'm not wrong, Scholes has 15 goals too. Does that mean we have 3 out of the top 6 all time scorers?

Can't be right...

Wait a minute, that's CL, not European Cup!

Dont get too excited. ;)

He will, this year. He's for me almost the perfect forward. In the past I've said that his first touch could be better, but the way that he chested down that Veron pass tonight was absolute class. He is class.

He just needs to work on his first touch when he has the ball at his feet. ;)

He's got a long way to go until can be considered as good as Law though, remember, he gets far more games in the CL that Law had in the old European Cup.

I don't u can cpmpare the records as the formats and equipment are completely different. So Law's record won't really be beaten, but i think Ruud will easily be the CL overall top Scorer unless Ronaldo starts to get his shooting boots on again.

agreed, it's apples and oranges. you played far fewer games in the european cup, and they were always against champions.

btw, raul's still young and isn't he top CL scorer so far?

28 goals so far I think. He's had quite a few games though.

but the best comparison you can make is the goals to games ratio, which was the inital point for my question.

I agree with the fact there are more weaker teams in the competition these days but i just want to know how he was doing

Aren't Ole and Giggs on 16?

I suppose the only time you can say Law's record has been beaten is when someone does it in the same number of games.

The two are not comparable. Ruud is a big strong bastard who will clean up in the Cl and probably the PL. He's great! Denis was a waif like figure who had electric pace, terific acceleration and could jump higher than anyone I've seen. He was as pssionate as Keane and didn't take shit. He just chined 'em! He was sent off @5 times in a time when refs were blind and no-one had the benefit of TV replays. One of the best 'goals' i've ever seen when I was but a callow child was against Spurs. Jennings took a kick and 'The King' did an overhead kick when he was literally balanced on the top of his head on the ground - straight in the net like a rocket! - He was given offside - the best non goal i've ever seen! We didn't mind as we beleived he could do better next time - feck me, we were spoilt! Cantona was god to me but Denis was the best i've ever seen!

Denis was one of those people who you wouldn't think could look after himself, but he was tough as anything, he grew up in Aberdeen in the same street as my Mother in Law, and she says he was always a sickly type of kid, but outside in all weathers playing footie.
You could never accuse RVN of ever looking sickly(I imagine not anyway) but the way he's going he's going to be another United Euorpean legend, like Law.Different eras, different styles, but same desire and passion for the game. And United.

Good point Livvie. Didn't know that. Looks like Andy's record will be passed by more than a few this season...

Care to hazard a guess as to who'll be the front runner?

Hey, That's my saying! <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

;)

Have to agree with the general sentiment in here, its impossible to compare players and teams of different eras. Just have to say that both were/are brilliant and be thankfull that they play/played for us!

Andy's record is Bollocks. It took him so many games to pass the record. Ruud will pass his mark in less than half the number of games.
