Ruud to miss Saturday's game

Well that depends on what formation we play. Forlan on his own up front isn't worth a sumo wrestlers' arse, but when he's got good support he'll score :)

Paul scholes, scores goals ;)

A tight hamstring he said, maybe miss saturday, doesn't sound too bad on first examination, we'll know more tomorrow.

If Ruud doesn't play on Saturday, I really hope he goes with 4-4-2 and plays both Ole and Diego.

I don't think that Ruud is injured. It's only that SAF doesn't want to risk Rudd (he's done enough) and also the most important thing is that Arsenal and Livepool are 3-6 points ahead of us and it's a must for us to catch up as soon as possible. ;)

Well Ole has a good record against Charlton.

But does no-one else find it strange that on Saturday after he was taken off, he went straight down the tunnel.

Didn't see that on Saturday. What I did find strange was that when Ruud went off injured tonight that Fergie brought on Diego and not Ole...especially when he chose to continue to play only one striker up front.

Same here. Poor Forlan did struggle in that role, didn't he?

Hope it doesn't affect his confidence further!

Livvie,

You're so right!

Livvie,

Well, after last night's performance by Ole, I can say I won't bother as well - he had a full 4 minutes to prove his worth but did he score or create chances?

What a load of rubbish - ship him out come January, I say! ;)

Reports in the israeli web site "One" suggest Ruud should be OK for saturday.
Can't find an English source, tho Amir is an editor in there so blame him if its wrong ;)

everyone's been talking about Forlan failure to score. Ole's going through a bit of a baron spell himself.

With RVN needing to rest his hamstring, its a perfect opportunity to start with Forlan and Ole. A couple of goals a piece in a 4-0 away win will do nicely :D

ps. Veron's scored 1 and created 2 in his last two European games, it'd be nice for him (and us) if he create a few in the Prem.

I find it interesting that Ole went straight down the tunnel on Saturday instead of to the bench.

I'm very bothered indeed..as per my previous posts , i think that Ole is our top striker of the last 5/6 years, better than Cole/Yorke/Sheringham, he was also Cantona's favourite strike partner, and he matched Ruud goal for goal last year when they had equal chance to play.

So what is going on..what went on on Tuesday ?? Although Ole's greatest fan (ok, we'll toss for it) I don't think that he has been or can be successful in the holding role/lone striker role. I don't think Fergie sees Ole in this role either. No problem - the most natural goalscorers seldom are ...neither was Denis Law or Jimmy Greaves.

So why did fergie try Forlan in the role on Tuesday ? Basically either because he felt short of options ( we know that), felt he already knew that Ole would at best be a partial success, and is desperately casting about to find something where Forlan will be a success....we now know that it won't be holding the ball up front, but it seemed a strange experiment at best. We were already two goals up, so maybe it seemed a safe attempt to give Forlan match practice in Europe, and a chance to show something different.

I note what you say about Ole's departure last staurday and hope and pray there's not an underlying problem.

Good old Neil. Best reason yet.

Ruddy - nothing was said about any injury, which with our current striker shortage, would surely have made the news.

I hope there isn't a problem there. Maybe Fergie felt that because we were 2-0 up, we were in a good position to win the game and he wanted to make sure Ole would be fit for Saturday since Ruud could be a doubt. Because although playing as a lone striker may not particularly suit Ole, it definitely suits Diego even less. I don't think it does much for Diego's confidence either to be put in that position where, after Ruud's great first half, comparisons are always going to be drawn between them in that lone striker role (which is exactly what happened in some papers this week). The poor guy's got enough pressure just trying to score. Play him in a position and formation so that, even if he doesn't score, he can feel like he's made a worthwhile contribution.

Red 15, agree with you about Forlan.

I think Fergie was just too confident after being 2-0 up & wanted to try Forlan in a lone striker role ( he's used Ole to good effect many times previously in that role including a 7 match streak in Dec 2000/Jan 2001 when all the rest of the strikers were injured or suspended & therefore unavailable & Ole rewarded him with 6 goals - pundits widely acknowledged that this period broke the spirit & will of the rest of the title contenders who had hoped that United's striker crisis wud have enabled them to catch up & United wrapped up the title by April!

If Ruud starts against Charlton, then I suspect that he never really had a hamstring injury but was only Fergie's excuse after the plot was nearly lost in the 2nd half mainly because of his early subbing!
