FC Barcelona make van Nistelrooy move

FC Barcelona president Joan Gaspart met Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy this week for talks in the Catalan capital.

The meeting took place after United were defeated in a Champions League semi final and saw Gaspart's office staff show the Dutch star around Barca's Camp Nou stadium.

Barca have also looked at signing Argentine forward Hernan Crespo from SS Lazio who also have interest from Madrid in their striker.

But the move for van Nistelrooy will shock United's fans.

The 22 year old is the club's top scorer in his first season at United and he is rated at $45 million in the transfer market.

His sale looks very unlikely as United look to regroup after an unsuccessful season by their standards. United also have interest from Barca in their midfielder Juan Veron and are sure to resist any attempt by Barca to try and sign former PSV star van Nistelrooy.

It would be a step down to join Barca from Utd, and that is comming from a Liverpool fan :eek:

Barca are a name. They are underachievers with mountainous pressure that they cant handle.
 
No way RVN would leave us now. He's just had the most successful year of his short life and we have taken to him like flies to sh*t. I can see Seba leaving us for a tidy sum but not our Ruud. He's here to stay. And long may he reign...

If RVN was talking to Barca, did he have the clubs permission and have they agreed a potential fee? Wouldn't Barca be in heavy shit if not?
