Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

I don’t think even the Nazis beheaded people. I could be wrong- I’m sure someone can correct me- but I think they just hung most of them- as horrible as that is. There’s something about beheading that is a level below horrific. Either way, the things that men can do to each other seems to know no limits. There’s a phone (on YouTube) call between a Russian soldier and his mother and he is taking delight in torturing prisoners. Civilians as well. He goes into detail about something called 21 roses. It nearly made me sick. And his mum is cheering him on.

To be honest, I would rather be beheaded in 1 stroke like in a guillotine than hanged. But I know what you mean, the connotations of beheading goes beyond that pain, but so is hanging in the XXI century. Are barbaric methods to kill. if you want to kill someone in war, bullet in the head.

Reeks of the same shit that was done during the Korean War and during the Vietnam War: doing just enough to maintain the independence of an allied country, but still never enough to whoop the aggressor's ass into oblivion.

Douglas MacArthur was the last highly-ranked US general willing to achieve total victory through whatever means possible. Other than perhaps Norman Schwarzkopf, I don't think I have seen any other American general since MacArthur having this mindset in a high position of command within the US military.

Those commanders were in charge of actual US forces participating in combat though. Not determining policy on military aid to a friendly country.

US never had a chance in vietnam and korea. Even full force

Russian President Vladimir Putin personally approved the arrest of a US reporter on espionage charges for the first time since the Cold War, according to people familiar with the situation.

The Russian president’s endorsement of the move reflects the growing influence of Kremlin hardliners who push for deepening a confrontation with Washington they view as irreversible, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss matters that aren’t public.

Douglas MacArthur would have nuked China if he had his way, and the world would not be a better place if that happened. I also don't agree at all with comparing the US involvement in Vietnam with the US involvement here. They dropped more bombs in the Vietnam War than they dropped in the entire Second World War. They had a draft and nearly 3 million Americans served in Vietnam, in total, with 60k of them dying.

They weren't WW2-involved, but short of that they were as involved as they've ever been in anything except fighting themselves in the 1860s.

My current view on this whole bizarre leak (for clout on a gamer incel discord channel), is that I don't think it's intentional (otherwise whoever conjured up the trail of how to leak it got really creative), but I also don't think the intel contained is that sensitive. Could possibly even be stuff that the Russians and others are able to access, if a Massachusetts Air Natl Guard Airman First Class is all you need to flip to get access.

Germany really stepped up with Pistorius if you remember the 5000 helmets in the beginning.....

Not only in regards to Ukraine, but he is doing a massive clearout of the staff as well. Already sacked the highest ranking general and the head of procurement, along with several staff members and apparently plans sacking many more useless people. Truly a breath of fresh air

Why did he have access to that level of intel?

He is/was an IT technician I read. So plausible he has admin rights to stuff, question is surely it's tracked and they know who is accessing everything at all times. Timestamps and the like (or whatever the US mil has which you'd imagine is top notch).

Obviously because it was part of his job.
Should NG be allowed to possibly access such information? I get that there’s intelligence arms of the NG, but should they be privy to such classified docs?

Is this still necessary?

I hope he gets humiliated in the process (forced on a walk of shame, have a sign hung around his neck, have the traitor's mark carved on his forehead, or whatever) before his sentence.

You might have to make do with a 400 year sentence at a federal supermax (or military prison).

He should feel lucky because there are countries out there in which traitors do not live for much longer if they are caught with a portion of what that guy did.

Yeah totally, but in all honesty I’m not sure which is worse. He’s effectively lost his life with little to no chance of parole stuck in some grim high security prison.

Why so mad bro? Did those documents say one thing that we already did not know?

Just seen this on portuguese news because his family was originally from here apparently, and he' only 21? Basically a kid, how does he get access to this kind of info?

Cause someone didn't implement NIST's SP 800-171 correctly.

Edit: SP 800-171 is for controlled unclassified documents. Since leaked documents were classified, then the fella went rogue after getting needed clearances. Still a kid, not fully developed to realize what the consequences of his actions might be. In my humble opinion totally unnecessary as leaked documents do not reveal anything significant.

He is a gamer and did it to impress his (online) friends, probably. That's what they do in that kind of community.
