Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

The losses, and indeed the return of badly wounded men, have resonated in the home community. A few weeks into the war, one user of V'Kontake exclaimed, "Almost every day photos of our Kostroma boys get published. It sends shivers down my spine. What's happening? When will this end?"

From the Macron/Xi summit meeting today.

We saw that failure coming by a mile away. Why bother anyway?

He’s surely doing this for domestic consumption to create a facade of relevance - a narrative that France is leading the way towards a potential diplomatic outcome (which of course will never happen because of anything Macron does).

Pretty sure it's both. Some doubles have masks, some plastic surgery.

There are so many hilarious inconsistencies in the three pics of Putin. If the one on the left is the real Vlad, the other two must be from middle earth.

You don't even need comparisons between his doubles to know he is using them. Recently he gave a speech in front of some ambassadors (maybe you saw that awkward silence moment when he waited for applause). He said unfortunately he can't speak personally to them because of medical restrictions, meaning Covid.
But he is also the one walking in Sevastopol and Mariupol and hugging "random" people? Believing that he isn't using body doubles requires more naivety than believing in Santa at this point.

What’s the salary for a dictator double and do you get more wedge the more plastic you get.

What do you do outside of work, imagine you could have fun with it outside of the job.

How many Putins are out there?
Certainly more than 1. Simply no way the same person wouldn't allow anyone closer than 20 meters while in Russia and then suddenly hug everyone and go to "random" people flats in the middle of the night in a warzone.

Everytime this topic comes up, you just have to listen to the terrorist Girkin. He explains it perfectly how to spot the real Putin.

Is he alone? It's the real one. Is he standing near people, or in a crowd? It's a double.

How did you get the leak as coming from the Ukrainian side? Did I miss something in the article?

Wagner in central Bakhmut. Ukranian forces most likely moved to the western part of town and build a new defense line. Still, even if Bakhmut finally falls in a couple of weeks, Russia depleted their men and equipment just for a propaganda town, while Ukraine prepares 8 new brigades with 40.000 men and western armor for their offensive.

How do we know they have these new brigades etc?

Unfortunately I think it was costly for Ukraine too, just hopefully it was worth it.

Yeah, its a pointless exercise for the Russians and show how utterly desperate Putin is for a glimmer of success in Ukraine. He would've been much better off retaining Kherson, which is a fairly large city by Ukrainian standards. Let's hope the Ukrainian counteroffensive takes back most of their territory.

The new documents appear to show that America’s understanding of Russian planning remains extensive and that the United States is able to warn its allies about Moscow’s future operations.

The material reinforces an idea that intelligence officials have long acknowledged: The United States has a clearer understanding of Russian military operations than it does of Ukrainian planning.

A very long article that in the end doesn’t really say much. I suppose the Times were under pressure to put something out given the various docs floating around.

Although if you want a paranoid dictator to turn his focus on unnecessary purges of his intelligence services, this would be the article to publish.

To be fair (in regards to the snippet above from @VorZakone), it has felt like we had a better idea of what Russia is going to do than our friend Ukraine...especially early on.
