Personally, if I have learned anything from this war, it's that 'hot' wars are not a thing of the past, as I was told in school.

WMDs don't mean anything if a WMD country goes on the attack.

I hope that major Olympic federations will send that ultimatum for real this time. The US, Canada, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, and many more among those larger Western/Allied federations should outright threaten the IOC of a full boycott. We already fecked up with the message that had to be sent before Beijing and thus saw some of the worst Olympics in recent memory last year. We can't afford to miss the shot this time.

The Danish fencing association or whatever they're called cancelled a major international tournament because the international association would allow Belarusians and Russians to compete. Everyone should do the same. It's a shame for all the other nationalities caught up in cancelled tournaments, but if everyone cancels the international association has to do something.

Why would any one follow those orders at that point? He may have nothing to live for but plenty of others have. He brought this on himself. Who's going to go over the cliff edge with him?

He's a coward who sits at 20m long tables to avoid catching Covid. The nuclear rhetoric died down when the US made comments to the effect that Russia had been made aware of what would happen if tactical nuclear weapons were used, apparently "decapitation" strikes, or the sinking of the Black Sea Fleet and the wiping out of all Russian forces outside Russian borders. When the Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile killed the Polish farmer they were instantly denying responsibility for fear of reprisals from NATO.

No doubt the elites will already be planning for life without Putin, who they'll side with when he's gone and the power struggle begins and how they're going to keep themselves out of the Hague. They're all gangsters who enjoy rich living, not ideologues ready to die for a cause. His power and influence has eroded and will continue to erode and eventually, someone will finish him - if the cancer doesn't get him first. He'll end up like most dictators.

Hey, Is what I believe not a certainty. Would knows who has in charge of the nuclear strikes and their mentality and how warped is it. Seeing how some russians have this dystopian reality, who knows what they will do for mother Russia. What is clear is that Putin trusts no one and sure non of the elites has much saying on the nuclear decisions as he doesn't trust them

Hopefully you are right. I hope for Ukrainian total victory and a total overthrow of Putin and Russia stop hostilities but I don't see it happening. Or Ukraine will not win, or it can win but it will be conversations behind the scenes with Russia assuring that they will engage with nuclear strikes if they cant get something, anything or Ukraine wins but there is nuclear attacks

with that I am not saying that Ukraine has to surrender to blackmail at all. Is just how I see it.

Might be other fringe scenarios like Putin dies or gets assassinated well before the Ukrainians succeed and the new Russian leader says we let you free. But well. Will see. At this point is just my opinion based on assumptions

Nothing like that, it will be solved by peace once one side exhausts all options and realises they are on the way to total defeat then a compromise will be made.

Given Russia's performance over the past year, one would be surprised if they could defeat Poland in a war, much less the entire EU (which of course is nonsensical since most of the EU is also NATO).

I hope the 52% who voted for Brexit and called the rest of us traitors are proud that they helped implement a key foreign policy.objective of a hostile state. As for destroying the European unity, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has in fact helped revive it to the extent of even managing to re-militarise Germany. Patrushev is, like Putin, a member of the Soviet-reared gerontocracy who will hopefully leave the stage before too long.
 
A lot so far reliable pro Ukraine channels suddenly posting different videos of very well equipped Ukraine forces moving or on command posts with tanks and other western machinery.

Quite too many to be a sudden coincidence, some sort of info operation underway.

I don't understand what the hell they are doing here. Where is the infantry support? This just seems like the same idiotic tactics the Russians where trying last year, with a couple of infantry squads behind the tanks they would have taken those positions back in no time.

Infantry are in the BMP holding back, while the tank does its work.
 
Looks like Bakhmut will fall after all. City is surrounded from 3 sides and reports of Russians in the center.

If my country invades, rapes, pillages and steals from another then I would expect to be punished for it. Giving sportsmen and women a pass is absurd to me, no matter if they do or do not support the decisions of their Government.

The age old excuse of "politics should not be involved in Sport" boils my piss. Why should they be given a free pass while other citizens don't? Why should Sportsmen be allowed to leave Russia while others have their passports taken away and their rights revoked. It's pathetic reasoning.

So the same tactics the Russians tried last year, armored attacks with no infantry support for the MBT's leaving them extremly vurnerable to infantry level anti tank weapons.
I hope it's just some old Soviet mid level commander who came up with this plan because this is not what the Ukrainian troops that are being trained in the west are training to do.

It is.

As an ice hockey fan, I'm just glad that the IIHF showed serious backbone by recently extending the ban on Russian and Belarussian national ice hockey teams for at least one more year. The IOC and now the ATP/WTA totally disgraced themselves in a matter of a few days.

I dunno, I think the Russian tactics your referring to is them throwing armour headlong down unknown routes, exposed from all sides, without a care in the world. This appears to be Ukraine clearing one trench in an area they know well, they know those fields aren't mined, they will be in open contact with the drone operator and have the BMP for infantry support if needed. They were lucky that rpg missed, but I presume they feel is less risky letting frontal tank armour take on whatever is in that trench instead of exposed foot soldiers. I'm sure they love to let mortars and grenade drones do all the work, but gotta use what they got.

Russia uses sport as a propaganda tool since forever. Every participation, every victory will be exploited by the Kremlin and helps Putin to keep the public quiet. "See, everything is okay. We even participate in international competitions like tennis and olympics."
I can't believe that after state sponsored doping in Sochi and now a genocidal war, they still can participate in international competitions. How can people be that stupid or that corrupt?:mad:

You do understand how ridiculous this statement is? I feel deeply sorry that a few sportsmen and women have to suffer the indignity of not being able to enter global competitions for a few years, how very incontinent for them. I'm sure the average Russian citizen who can't escape Russia in fear of being sent to prison or worse dragged off to the front is deeply frustrated that their sports stars can't play. I'm sure the average dead Ukrainian citizen is upset that they can't play, no wait, they're dead already. Maybe the raped women will give a damn? Probably not. I'm sure that all the dead Ukrainian citizens don't think it's fair they were murdered either.

feck Sport in this regard, it's a dumb position to take. If I was Ukrainian and I was in a locker room with a Russian that was pro war, how on earth could I control myself? Putting Sportsmen and women in that position is absurd, unfair and cruel.

It doesn't make it right, but there's more to this than just Wimbledon. The event was classified an exhibition event last year because it banned Russian players. The issue is the ATP / WTA, because they made it a none-ranking event, not Wimbledon in my opinion.

My statement is ridiculous? Here yourself that you think that sport is only elite and only wimbeldon. There are many layers and sports had meant heaps througout history. Check yourself. You are in a sports forum if feck sport and you want to make a statement just cancel all global sport in general till every conflict is fixed. Triage can be done with russian sportman/sportwoman and yes some might fake it but i prefer not to feck someone innocent over

As long it doesnt affect you all nice and dandy. There are perfectly decent russian sportmen and sportwomen that are getting shaft and instead of helping them you just want to punish them. Wrong them doesnt make it right for ukraine, probably the opposite. I would never want someone to be punished just because they share nationality with someone that feck me over that is plain stupid
