Rugby Union 23/24 Discussion

Finally starting to see a little bit of clicking for Leinster the last few games I feel. Still not sure about the new system but let’s give it time. Harry Byrne was excellent today but unfortunately off injured again. The lad has immense talent but I fear he’ll never get to reach his peak with all the injuries.

Really disappointed with Ulster, that has to be the end of the coaching staff now for me, too much talent to have excuses for not making it through. Munster will be fine I think. They’ve got to where they need and if they get through the injury crisis they’ll be a tough match for anyone.

Really frustrating not to get a home tie in the next round for Bath. A bonus point looked almost certain with three tries scored by half time. I know JVG wasn’t liked by Munster fans but he’s done wonders so far. I just wish we’d take a few more risks when close to the try line and get the ball wide.

Hasn't he had an open cheque book to spend with, also the last part get used to it and don't expect promising academy kids to get a break either

Compared to Irish and French clubs? Given the salary cap in the Premiership, I can’t imagine it’s much different to the other teams at the top of the table. I think the squad is performing about right relative to its talent after a few years of badly underperforming, but I’m impressed with how quickly he’s turned it around.

As for the academy, you’re right, they’ll struggle to get a look in for sure. The squad is incredibly big. The pack at the weekend was competitive with one of the best teams in France and was missing Ted Hill, Barbeary, Underhill, Dunn, as well as three or four experienced players before you even get to the youngsters. Going off what we saw in the Premiership cup, they’re not ready to play for teams at the top anyway.

I really like the look of this young chiefs team. If they can turn over Sarries at the StoneX it really will be something

Racing 92 vs Toulouse is on Viaplay and is a quality match. 10-7 28 mins in

France vs Ireland aka the World Cup final that wasn't should be a cracker. On the one hand, it's good that the 6 Nations starts with a bang. On the other hand, we are going to have a very good idea of who will win the 6 Nations with 14 matches remaining in the tournament come full time in Marseille.

I'm genuinely traumatised  I feel like I don't really want to watch this. But I probably will.

and before the game. on paper you’d have to go for the 6 nations side that went furthest in the world cup.

Got to score first.

And stop Ireland scoring much more.

And keep 15 on the pitch.

But if anyone can do it, it’s France. As likely to lose by 20 as win from 10 down…
I’m somewhat shocked by how bad they look. Reckon they’ll come out steaming in the second half

Ireland really should have a lot more points on the board.

I missed the first 10. I'd be interested to see the yellow card incident again. The Irish commentary team are not convinced the drop in height was close enough to the collision to be counted as mitigation.

His height never changed from the moment the French lad started his movement.

EDIT: Justice done. What an idiot.

Lovely delay on the pass there by Crowley, good response to a poor missed kick.

Wonderful delayed pass from Crowley. Not a single French player looks on it

Very close and could have been given… a dark orange.

Second one’s a basic yellow but stupid. Type of thing football managers sometimes go “I’ll sub him”, doesn’t happen in rugby.

I haven’t watched much of McCarthy, he’s an absolute menace. Nothing like a big destructive lock :D

He's going to be off here for 2 yellows.
Just thinking of the Amrabat incident for Morocco the other night. Yellow carded then VAR told ref to look again and he upgraded to a straight red which impacts how many games Amrabat misses.

Wonder if a panel would’ve given the French lad a longer ban for a straight red if reviewed on the night and given red
