Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach | Thread locked during matches

It's not that this game doesn't matter. It does, and this is massively disappointing given that our performances had improved a lot recently.

What I cannot fathom that people aren't understanding here is that it's massively unfair to parachute a guy into the job mid-season and tell him that if he can't get a tune out of this fecking mess that his predecessor left us with after a single transfer window then he's getting the sack.

Right now, our goalkeeping options are Onana and Bayindir. Our options up front are Hojlund and Zirkzee. People often say we should be playing another attacker instead of three defenders? Cool, your options are Mount or Eriksen for that extra spot. That's it.

The squad is just abysmal. There's no two ways about it. Arnold, Murtough and Ten Hag couldn't have done a better job if they were deliberately trying to sabotage us. I'd have given any manager who came in essentially a free pass until the end of the season because the task left behind by Ten Hag was too big to be done in half a season.

Yeah and that's why he got sacked. But surely we'd prefer to improve on that?
Yes of course, I’m giving Anorim the benefit of the doubt at the moment. We need to see a good start to next season or hes toast. We stripped an already weak squad this Jan and left him with minimal tools.

We are Manchester United, our whole history has been good wingers. Playing 5 in the back at a club like united is ridiculous. Might work in farmers leagues, won’t work in the premier league.

If INEOS are serious in winning the PL in a few years, they need to spend big somehow, cheap 'upcoming' players won't cut it alone. Team is in a worst state it's ever been

If we lose to Lyon, it's not going to be pretty.
The last few weeks will be very toxic.

I don't think this guy will be a success either way, United should bite the bullet and move on in the summer.

He's done a piss poor job, admittedly with a shite bunch of players, but I personally don't think he should be given any more money to waste on a system that I'm certain is not going to be successful in the Premier League. If he is given money for players, it should be players that will fit ANY system.

Decision to play Amass, Eriksen and Lindelof today was quite somtehing. Away at newcastle.

Hopefully it pays off on Thursday. Clearly prioritising the cup.

Has to win Europa or he’s out for me. There’s no excuse for writing off games, especially when we can’t compete still finish top half. He simply hasn’t been good enough, even Moyes has Everton playing the semblance of a team, we seem to have very little confidence every game we play.

Hard to see this as he wrote off this game given that he played a vast majority of our normal starting XI. We were simply defeated by a side that would've beaten every other league team at home today. Our mistakes were bad, but the odd defender slipping or the keeper making an errant pass are hard to pin on Amorim's tenure. They were simply player mistakes that need to be corrected from now until the end of summer.

Yeah, would be insanity to let him mould the squad to fit this disaster of a system, so no doubt we will.

Well we can't afford to spend big

Back 3 has never aa

Out coached by an assistant manager the future looks grim
What do you mean out-coached?

Of the team we put out today, maybe two players (Bruno and Yoro) would make that Newcastle side.

Newcastle are just a way, way better team than us right now.

We have spent over a decade watching rubbish under various coaches, convincing ourselves that 'when he gets his players' we will start playing like it's 1999.

I would love to be proven wrong but I think the likeliest outcome from here is the same thing that's happened before: more players come in, still doesn't work, manager gets sacked, and we change direction again.

I see virtually no world in which we play 343 after Amorim and I reckon he's only getting this rope because Berrada picked him and nobody wants to admit Ashworth's warnings were right.
Is there even a top level manager in Europe who plays the same system?

We lack quality in a lot of areas as Amorim said not just the final third. Our midfielders are not doing their jobs in the build up, often making the easy pass or looking for Bruno to bail them out. The CBs also need to take more responsibility as we have seen at times from Yoro and Martinez. The out ball on the press is supposed to be finding the opposite WB over the top rather than the CF (we have seen it at times, but again a lot of the players just don’t want to take responsibility and instead play it to the nearest team mate and hope they get bailed out)
Sure, the question was partially because he worked with Ugarte at Sporting so I would have thought he would know his role in terms of building the play and making himself available (ignoring his significant limitations as a player). As you say the midfielders are never really options for a pass, apart from when Bruno takes it all on himself, and the middle centre back is never on the half turn so is never an option to receive the ball.

I guess if the ball is meant to be switching it to the wing backs then we're going to need them to be a lot better (like everywhere else) for us to ever build up consistently. Since the league game at the Emirates we've had a lot of these games where the possession numbers seem quite high but so much of it is just the defenders and keeper going nowhere.

Won't hate on him for playing Amass. There's just no point in playing two oldies who'll leave in the summer

Im glad to see amass get a run out too, but time and place. when youre already conceding the midfield maybe dont throw in a child too. Bizarre stuff after having his arse handed to him by newcastle last time when he had to correct his mistake after 20 minutes.

All I know is that this fella needs a great summer, he proved it Sporting that he could overhaul a squad with cheap signings. I am going to keep my judgement on him after the summer window has closed.

Embarrassing stuff this from Ruben. I fear ETH the second come 10 games in next season

Lose on Thursday and I say sack him - we’ve only wasted money on Dorgu so not the end of the world. Give someone proven keys to the castle.

Doing worse than ETH. Tactically clueless . a washed away Jose Mourinho.

Hey, atleast he speaks well.

I don't disagree, but expecting a win away at Newcastle when they have everything to play for, was always unrealistic.
And this would be overlooked if it weren’t for the constant poor performances and horrendous results since he took over. There’s a vast middle ground between winning this game and getting battered.

Again, for people suggesting that the back three is the problem - what alternative system do you suggest?

Do you seriously think that playing an extra attacker, which realistically means that Hojlund will start every game up front and the extra attacker will be one of Zirkzee, Mount or Eriksen, is going to alter fecking anything?

The squad isn't good enough.

If a better manager becomes available in the summer, we should strongly consider making the switch.

I don’t know how you trust 100m+ in transfers this summer to a guy who has such a dismal record.

I’m looking for anything positive. Any sign of improvement. There is just nothing. We are regressing actually.

I don't think this guy will be a success either way, United should bite the bullet and move on in the summer.
That’s the harsh truth, but I don’t see them firing him until we feck away another season, simply because he is their first major appointment and the CEO has managed to feck it up. i think he will likely be booted out closer to the end of next season when we are well out of top 5 and most likely mid table and out of all cup competitions.

Two goals from clear mistakes today. It would have been 2-1 and that would have changed the mindset of going for a win. Two goals from clear mistakes in the last match.

How are we going to win anything consistently if we are tying our hands behind our back?

Mistakes, lack physicality, low -in and lack of on-ball quality. Amorim has to work such little available to win games.
