Exactly. Our summer business was really good. Players like Yoro and Zirkzee have been bought for the long term, too, and the other three are clear improvements for our squad.
More holes need to be plugged, but that's a given. The manager has been here a few weeks, obviously not everything will be great right away.
 
I keep reading fans asking Amorim 'to find his best 11 and stick to it' but not sure if these fans have been under a rock all this time. Have you seen the fitness of our squad? I don't think there is another player bar Bruno that can play 2 games in 3 days and give the same level of performance.

He's having to chop and change to get 'fresh legs' in the team knowing full well that he played the same players, there will be zero effort, more injuries and fans on his back to 'freshen up' the team. I'm afraid he just has to get through thus season to hopefully jettison half of these poorly fit players and get some more athleticism in the team.

People seem to forget this, if he does the opposite then they will complain about the injuries. You can’t win with these type of people.
 
I'm not absolving Amorim of all the blame and the decision to take of Ugarte unbalanced the team massively but he can't do much about the terrible finishing and constant defensive individual errors.

My hope is we can bring in one or two players in January, get through the rest of the season hopefully top 8 and then completely revamp the squad in the summer. Other than Yoro, De Ligt, Mazraroui, Ugarte, Amad, Mainoo and probably Bruno, I don't think anyone is safe from getting sold to be honest.
 
A few thoughts...

No revamp of the squad is coming.

As the coach he might be now realising why the previous managers have struggled.

The players have not been switched on since the derby. But give them any excuse and they will take it, the Rashford drama has been a distraction and the feel good factor from beating City is gone.

Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal are the next 3 matches...so it's going to get worse sadly.

My personal view is that managers should be adaptable. We could have Garnacho and Amad wide, Bruno 10 and a striker. We would look far better with players in natural positions. He may want to play it and I understand but he doesn’t have good enough players at wingback which are key positions.

How can you honestly say we have controlled any of the last 2 games, have you seen them? Who says they have controlled games where they have conceded 7 goals! And yet we are meant to be better defensively, what planet are you on? :lol:

That's just not true, they're all fit professionals. It's an easy bollocks excuse.

If the players are half arsed that's one thing, but there's no way any professional in the EPL is physically unfit.

You can definitely control a game and concede a lot of goals. Why is that a shocking concept to you?

Here’s a hypothetical extreme situation. You deny the opposition any chances at all from open play but concede three corners and they score all of them. At the other end you create a load of chances but shite finishing and good goalkeeping stops you scoring any goals.

If you understand that as a hypothetical then you can see how it’s possible to generally control a game while still losing convincingly.
 
I've seen enough of Amorin to know he's the right coach for us. He says exactly the right things and sees all the details that the fans and myself have long been crying out for. He's an actual coach that tells players exactly what they should do and shouldn't do, down to the minute detail. We need to give this guy our full backing and we're going to be back at the top where we belong

Yeah, it’s not like last season where we were consistently conceding great chances to mediocre teams which they kept missing. It’s the opposite as we are hardly conceding any good chances but our opposition keep scoring from all half chances and individual mistakes.

What about Garnachos form makes you think that we would look better with him on the pitch? We have looked better, much better, since Amorim came in. Results have been inconsistent but the underlying numbers have been steadily improving.

Amorim has already adapted his instructions multiple times and continues to do so. A formation that you start with is far from the most important thing anyway. City play a 4-3-3 but with the ball, they play a 3-2-4-1. That's literally the exact same on the ball set up as we do. Off the ball we defend sometimes with a 4 at the back, sometimes with a 5 at the back.

Yeah. And that stuff inevitably will stop happening if we keep controling games, preventing chances and creating chances. Eventually we'll start taking more chances and stop making dumb mistakes.

Bournemouth for example before today were the biggest xG underperformers in the league. Today they scored 3 goals from extremely limited chances and luck went their way for a day. Things will turn and all teams eventually regress somewhere around their underlying metrics levels eventually and that's why it's important to look at that while we're developing as a team.

It's also easier to do it when you aren't super stressed about your league position due to what came before Amorim anyway.

This is such strange logic considering the amount of times we’ve set up exactly like that and still stunk the place out. It’s so weird to me that people think doing what’s already been tried and failed will definitely improve on what we saw today.

Im still encouraged by our play team wise. It took Klopp what three seasons to get it right with liverpool. It will be similar with us i feel.

But we need to clear out so many and also buy well. Starting in January.

That was today, our best showing in that sense. Was more talking about overall as xG was brought up. They are the numbers, not that it's always everyone's cup of tea.

I did edit on that we're talking small sample sizes too, probably when you were replying. Still very much in the realms of one game being able to swing the numbers significantly, either in the positive or negative.

Ipswich we had a lot of the ball at the back, struggled to advance the ball beyond that, gave it up in our own half a lot and didn't create much at all.

In the 4-0 v Everton the numbers were very low. So much so that I remember people disputing them on here afterwards and lots couldn't believe them. Was sceptical myself but they are what they are.

We did absolutely nothing against Arsenal. The type of game I'm talking about when saying 1 game can impact the numbers. 0.22 xG. Set piece vulnerability.

Forest ok by and large in terms of the numbers. Was never a 2-3 game based off them or what we witnessed really. Onana having a 'mare, yet another example of a set piece goal where we're really struggling. They're never high xG chances, only when teams get them against us for some reason.

City was good overall xG for an away team. As a mtach we were gifted a pen and didn't really look like doing too much in terms of how threatening we were up until that point I suppose if you're scrutinising our attack. The Bruno chance which was a good one but that was it. Set piece goal conceded.

Today yet another one of those set pieces to hurt us to put us behind, one of the first meaningful things to happen. Started creating chances and could or should have been 1-1 then the penalty happens. 2 becomes 3 very quickly and from then on we continued to create. Maybe an element of Bournemouth coasting a little at that point, but definitely not a 0-3 kind of game if you pick out chances in isolation etc.

Exactly, that’s why I am not really greatly concerned about poor results of the last few weeks. Results will eventually turn.
 
Poor to see that some fans are already having their knives out and give it to him, especially after he beat City away.
He said it will get ugly and with that squad I am not surprised. But ffs support him

I don't know how we're conceding that many tbh. It doesn't matter who we play or who our manager is, it always seems like we need 10 chances to score but the opponent only needs 1 and it's a goal.

Really boggles the mind.
 
The more I see our squad act in the PL, the more obvious is is that we lack power, miles and tenacity.

We are to kind, weak and lazy. I guess a lot of our players has the footballing side of things, but that isn’t enough in a physical league. I think we would thrive in Italy or Spain. But we are literally ran over week after week.

Other teams aren’t better managed, but they have players that has the physical side and follow directions and do things easy.

I really hope that Amorim can get a couple of seasons to get to learn English football, get rid of players who has lost the hunger and that we will regulate the wage structure. Players earning too much will just settle regardless of results.

Amorim feels like a manager (head coach) who needs young physical players who runs all day and wants to prove them self. Not come here to cash in.

I think EtH had the same idea as Amorim coming here. But god he was hard to like and his signings were utter rubbish.

I will just enjoy this season for what it is. Cause even if we loose, our games is a lot more fun to watch. That is in itself worth a lot.

You do realise Berreda our CEO appointed him? Also he's had no preseason and games are coming thick and fast so there is little time to work on tactics, shape, structure etc. Never mind getting the fitness levels to where they need to be.

We could have appointed arne slot and we would still be in the same position.

The only silver lining is that amorim is getting time to see what these players are like up close and the mess he has inherited.

I wouldn't judge him till next season.
 
Has he actually improved the team?

Seems like the same problems still exist despite him been in charge now for 6 weeks.

do think he needs to take europa seriously however and by that I mean being pragmatic, a chance at cl qualification and another European trophy doesn't hurt.

Also no drubings against Liverpool, park the bus in those.

Our defence is crap.
Our attack is also crap.
Our midfield is worse.

Nothing boggling about it. Hojland and Zirkzee are the types of strikers you find in the lower half of the prem, floating about clubs who are flirting with relegation.

Improving stats?! Give your head a wobble. Stats don't win trophies. Stats don't challenge for titles.
 
Give the man time. He just needs to quit starting different line ups each game. He’s seen all the players now

What else do you expect on this forum. Some of the posts today have been pathetic. Even pulled a poster up as they already claim they hate Amorim.

He got praised for saying we need to take the pain this season to be in a better place next season else it will be no better, and he even warned us a storm will come first.

Then when it does its knives out for some.

The stats all show we are improving, whilst our results are not there yet because a number of players are too busy showing why they don't deserve to be here for the long term. Its short term pain I am will to accept, providing Amorim sees who needs to go and does improve next season, whilst a handful of fans will never learn and will choose short term results over everything else. You'd think that this short term-ism would have past after recent managers.....it seems not.
