It isn't though. This excuse keeps getting flung around the caf.
Our defending is just as bad, why are people ignoring this?
"if we fix our attack we will be fine"
We won't.
We are comfortably the leakiest of any iteration since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club 12 years ago.

I believe in 6 of our last 7 league games, we've conceded one goal or less.
Other than the disaster at Newcastle, recently the overall defending doesn't
feel that bad watching it but I could be wrong.
We lived through last season where teams would have 20+ shots every single game against us. It doesn't feel like teams are routinely having bag loads of chances against us to be honest. I don't get to the end of games and think "jesus I don't know how we didn't get battered by 4 today".
Now, maybe I've just blocked out the games earlier in the season where it was a lot worse, it all feels a bit of a blur to be honest.
We of course have the odd howler of a game like conceding 4 to Lyon.
I think with a new CM who provides some physicality, some attackers who can actually keep the ball to help us sustain attacks and provide a real threat to the opposition, the defensive record can improve alongside it.
I think the reason the attack gets more focus us
1. It's a bigger problem than defence even if defence is a problem
2. Scoring goals is a lot more dependent on individual quality than keeping goals out. There have been a lot of teams who are decently defensively without amazing personnel, just through team structure, understanding. Whereas if you have attacking players who can't score or assist or make a correct decision or pass a ball, it's very very difficult to score goals. It makes more sense to splash the cash on attack this summer and revisit the defence next year.
Should also say Ten Hag had years, 3 pre-seasons and £600m to get us defending properly. Amorim came in mid-season and has had months.
