Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

He wants more pace and power in the forward areas
I don’t blame him, I’m not asking for a prime Gareth Bale but good God would we look better if we had 2 fullbacks who were pacy, strong and could pass a bloody football

The problem is that Amad is already needed for 2 other positions.

That is definitely an issue. At the very least, at least Amad knows he'll be getting game time.

If it turns out that Amad has two other identical triplet footballing brothers, we're sorted.

People can get frustrated with the results all they want but at the end of the day, is he actually saying anything different to what we have for the past however many years? He’s just as frustrated as we are and I’m glad he’s willing to call it out

Malacia and Mainoo linked up well in the last part of the game on the left. That type of play is what any striker needs and we don't really produce it, our starting lineup really struggles to work the wide areas and supply balls. Sure Fulham chasing the game but it stood out to me and doubt the previous players are creating that move.

Wonder if Amorim might try starting Malacia and Mainoo out there, Malacia LWB, Mainoo left 10.

If we are able to push a team back into their half, having the quick feet of Mainoo on one side and Amad on the other would be interesting.

Exactly, what he's saying is what we've witnessed with our own eyes with Marcus over the last couple of years. In fact, it's probably been about 4 years barring that purple patch he had 2 years ago.

Its not the tactics or in game management from Amorim that is failing.
Against Brighton we had 10 shots. Against Southampton 23 . Against Liverpool 13. 46 shots and 6 goals. Its obvious where the problem is. I have said this before. We have 2 novices upfront. Fergie always had WC or as near as dammit forwards. Forget the defence and midfield and get 2 very good strikers in, one now if we can and another in the summer.
Swap Garnacho for Osiman. Easy to do I wouild think. Garnacho may be a world beater in 5 years, but we need a top striker now, not in 5 years.
Fantastic honest post, we need an elite number 9 before anything, our current options do not make the right runs, near post and a far post, do not use their physical size and don’t really hold the ball up well enough.

Yes we can be critical of how deep our wing backs and 3 Man defence is but if your number nine is an elite option like Gykores or Osimhen they are demanding the service and they are Constantly moving around the final third to create space for others but also give you a target man who threatens the goal and wants to score 20-25 goals a season, we will be lucky to get 10 PL goals between. The two of them, both need to go!

Why are people acting like there haven't been any improvements?

We put in our best performances at the Etihad and Anfield in I don't know how long. We usually play like cowards there but, this time, we took the game to them and came away with 4 points. We put in our best performance when down to 10 men away to Arsenal in I don't know now long. We usually crumble after a red card but, this time, we battled like warriors and knocked them out.

Have people already forgot or just conveniently overlooking to complain?

I agree. There is going to be a bit of a shortfall in the immediate term because a) we have no wing backs and b) our striking options are nil. But I see plenty to be going on with in terms of developing a structure within the team.

That goal was 343 working in the way it's supposed to. It allows the CBs to press high up the pitch and win the ball and catch teams out of formation.

It’s also worth bearing in mind how differently he’s treated Garnacho, who has obviously reacted to a shot across his bows the right way.

He’s a lot more direct with his opinions than I thought he would be. Some nice words for Hojlund but the Rashford quote was pretty brutal, as was the “worst team” comment a few weeks back.

I kinda like it to be honest .

Exactly, I don’t think a new manager would come in and immediately alienate the “star” player for no good reason as there’s 0 benefit for him to do that. I think the sad reality is that Rashford’s approach / application is really as bad as we all feared

Usually I am not a fan of such comments but not with this lot. There is a reason we finished 8th and now are stuck in bottom half of the table. These lot deserve to be shown the mirror.

100%, and I hate to say it but it’s true isn’t it? We’ve all seen Rashford’s application and demeanour these last few years, it’s been so obvious for so long how little he cared, he might be a United fan but he didn’t play like he was

I fully back the managers stance in regard to not picking players that don’t give 100% but it’s probably not the best negotiation trick to make comments like this when you’re actively trying to get rid of a player.

The Rashford quotes will get all the attention, but what he said about the CBs was absolutely fascinating.

Martinez scored his goal in a similar way to the way he did at Anfield, is that what you want to see from your centre-backs, them getting forward and being aggressive?
“Yes, they are nowadays sometimes the midfielders because you don’t often have a lot of space between the lines and you have to find this space. They are the players who have the game in front and they have to be the midfielders, so it’s really important. I think when the centre defenders play well with the ball, we play well. It’s something that Licha does really well, he can take the ball. He has to continue and the other guys have to improve also in that area.”

It makes a refreshing change from ETH's constant gibbering about improving and playing well as the team regressed.

Basically Rashford only put in effort when it was time to get a bumper 5 year contract and then phoned it in. Great.

Thing is, fans for years literally couldn't get their head around him doing that, they made excuses about his mysterious back injury and whatever else. Talk about running away from the truth.

He actuallt said he'd rather put his coach over a player that doesn't change their effort level. Far more constructive than what was reported but it didn't flatter their precious Rashford so it's going to be a big deal now.

At least with this win it should put to bed the whole relegation nonsense and allow him to continue building towards next season. We need wing backs badly though as playing Dalot and Mazraoui there will halt any progress.

Yeah I liked those comments as well. If we had another defender on the right who could pass like Martinez it can only help. Those assists from Martinez for Bruno and Amad recently are what we want to see.

I thought Mazraoui found himself in more attacking positions today than usual, but it's still obvious we're far away from getting the numbers forward we need. We simply don't get enough attacking width from our wing backs currently. At least not quickly enough.

Don't believe it's the formation or the numbers. We have enough bodies forward in attack. The attackers just can't get it done without being able to carry, dribble or combine to advance the ball. Giving them more width has always been the same ponderous possession but over a larger area. In possession our deeper players outperform our attackers collectively. Turning this on its head if your defenders/midfielders can't pass from the back tilting your entire formation to commit more players deep isn't a proper sustainable solution.

imagine being on obscene wages, and your manager is still saying he'd start a pensioner over you because you do nothing but mope around and won't even try in training. Supposedly Marcus wants to make his way back into the england team? How are you even showing that? By posting on Social Media all the time from the stands?

I'll never take anything away from his off-field deeds, but this guy's footballing career is almost over. No one wants his wages, no one wants to buy him. He's going to be in the stands for the next 2-3 seasons and his career is over. When you put it like that, and he doesn't seem to realise it, it's probably best for him to retire and certainly justifies Amorim's position. The worst position you could take on Rashford is that he might actually feel he can outlast Amorim, and if that was also the case, that says EVERYTHING about this club.

Amorim thought he was walking into a struggling, yet professional organisation. He's learnt in 2.5 months it is a bin fire and the fire is burning through the bottom of the bin and then through the concrete.

The team didn’t create much today, but worked hard. I‘m fully behind Amorim‘s comments regarding not playing if you don‘t give a 100%.

Without that, we probably would have lost today.

Think about what you are saying here. The players overperformed?!?

Without Ten Hag we probably would have finished lower than eighth.
We were 15th on the xG table last year, which is an indication of how well you are playing (calculating the likelihood of goals happening in chances for and against) We rode our luck last season and it ran out this autumn.

Yes I know that. My point stands that the players did not perform well last year, especially not physically and mentally.

What they are good at though, is chaos, and the dysfunction on the field actually won us some games.
