Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

He’s failing badly with his defensive as feck system. Working fine against big teams but giving “smaller teams” absolutely feck all to think about from us attacking wise. Tonight we had two players from 11 that can make something happen, at home, to fecking Brighton.

He can play whatever fecking system he likes, but this is Manchester United at home, he needs to give his head a fecking shake and get some attacking players onto that fecking pitch.

Amad should start at RWB until the end of the season. That should be his permament position until new signings are made.

Maz and Dalot are too defensive.

Having an extra attacker will give teams something else to think about.
100%. Amad played amazing at RWB. He was better defensively when he played there.

The trouble was most of our defenders got fit and I think the feeling is that "one of them must be able to do a job there".

With Rashford exiled, Mount injured, and everyone just so bloody tepid, Amourim feels he needs him further forward.

I would play absolutely anyone else at RAM instead of moving Amad. Dip into the academy if you have to.

Look Ruben deserves time but if we are not going to buy him at least 4/5 players that suit his system, he should be the one to pull the trigger himself as his reputation will be shot without any investment, he will only get 15/16 points from 15/16 PL matches if he doesn’t change and his current 27% PL win rate as Man United coach would not be acceptable after 20/30 games and the style of play being far too slow, will not be tolerated so it’s best he just quits himself to keep his reputation intact.

I watched a lot of sporting and he genuinely elevated good players to great and average players to good. But everything with Amorim’s sporting was about the collective and team shape, he had that team working in triangular partnerships no more than 10/15 yards apart so his 3421 was incredible flexible and robust and it became, when they attacked down the Right, a sweeping movement from RCB, to CB, to RM all joining in the build up then they move the ball through the thirds with RWB, R10, CF but there was multiply third man runs from midfield and even Wide CB’s.

The collective as an outfield 10 moved all round the pitch in Spinning triangular movement almost seamlessly.

Now when you look at this current United side it’s not 3421 but instead more 5221 and due to the wing backs and Centre Backs being generally slow, they drop far too deep and then there is far too much space for a 4 man defence to come out, then play out and 1 or 2 defenders join the midfield and then create multiple overloads even though we have 5 men almost lined up in a flat line, there are still loads of spaces.

Amorim can not continue to set up last this he needs to pick attacking wide Players like Amad at Right wing back and and give Harry Amass a go at left wing back.

He can’t do any worse right now, maybe play Collyer and Ugarte in a mobile midfield 2 so they can dominate the ball and give simple passes to Amad and Amass, we really need a CF and a left wing back desperately but that’s not happening so Ruben needs to give at least two youth players a chance, I’d call up Chido and Ibragimov into the squad too to give us something different, just so we can get to 40 points, then I would review Amorim’s position, if he wins Europa , keep him if not go get Iraola whose proving with much less resources he’s doing a far better job!
A 16 and two 17 year olds are your answer.

Amorim and Fernandes challenged the squad to deliver same intensity and spirit as they did against Liverpool and Arsenal. Magnificent response. They can piss off the lot of them.

If they can't play well in their preferred system/formation what on earth are you talking about?
I am talking about this: if they can't play well in a system they prefer, what makes you think they'll improve by switching to a system they don't prefer? It seems naive in my eyes.

To be fair, the forwards were hardly free scoring under the other bloke.

He should be asking Ineos to sign a striker, it's the most critical position in the team. If it doesn't happen in January then it's more pain on the way until it can be rectified in the summer.

If the club don’t plan a Chelsea style mass clear out and recruitment, might has well sack him now.

Firmly believe we will finish mid table for the foreseeable. I just hope fans are patient with Amorim.

His job is to win games by getting the best out if his players. His job is not to use a specific formation.
Then we bring another manager in who will get a couple of good results, then as soon as it goes a bit t*ts up they down tools, another sacking and so it goes on. Modern footballers for you. Another manager might get performances, but we will still have a very averages squad and no bloody striker. We will still have Luke Shaw and Mason Mount taking permanant residence in the medical room. Nothing will change. The majortity of our problems have been caused by the powers on high.

ETH, those two trophies aside, was an utter utter disaster of a manager here.

His signings will have long lasting ramifications for the club.

To spend what he did on Casemiro, Hojlund, Mount, Onana and Antony in particular was just inexcusable. We've been bad post Fergie I know but his time here really sped up our demise.

feck knows how Amorim fixes it.
Absolutely agree. His signings were the worst.
Atleast Ole got some known names for higher price. ETH spent bomb on players who no other club was interested in.

I said at the beginning that I'd call it as I see it with Amorim. Maybe that will make me sound inconsistent. Hard not to be inconsistent when the team is.

As I've said before, I don't blame him for what we are and for having a squad that is not suited to his approach. That's entirely on Omar Berrada and our supposedly best-in-class leadership. They picked him knowing what he is and knowing what he would have at his disposal.

However, it is concerning that we never really looked like scoring from open play. Our attack was toothless. Even on the counter. None of his changes improved the situation either.

It was also concerning that our pressing shape, again, was really bad. The Southampton game should have been a warning. However, Mitoma got in after what five minutes simply because nobody was tight to him. Again, several times our frontline pushed up and left our defence as an island.

These are his responsibility to fix and its just not happening. While the mentality of the team is still all over the place.

Its not super inspiring.

Mainoo and Garnacho are capable of better than what they're showing. There's a problem with the system or at least how the urgency is of the play, and Amorim is culpable in that.

According to him, if the results don’t improve he won’t be able to convince his players of his system. With that in mind, how does it help with us losing with such regularity?

If the opponents know you are playing 3 at the back and have set the opposition up to counter it, maybe we do something different/tweak the system to counter that back.

You don’t have to completely abandon your beliefs, but you can still tweak them to better suit the squad and the league.

The players are definitely mostly shite, but Amorim has to shoulder a fair bit of this blame. You don’t need a team of 11 superstars to outplay Soton.

We got outplayed by Southampton. Who definitely have worse players than us.

I think when he took over we were 4 points from the top 4, how many are we now? That was with Ruud getting us points and he’s only managed for a season or two in Holland previously. The players don’t suit the system, it makes players like Garnacho, Mainoo, Mazraoui worse. We need to sell a good amount of the squad to get Rubén’s football to work, it’s another massive gamble from the club.

His version of 5-2-3 is definitely the worst one. 2 no 10s is just a terrible idea as it doesn’t provide us the necessary width and the players he buys won’t be of use in most formations if he doesn’t work out.

How many rebuilds do we need? Liverpool are about to match our league title amount and likely increase it before we resemble a title challenging team. We may as well kept ETH of carrying on with these results and performances- 4 defeats in 5 games at OT now incidentally.

4231 could work if not setup gung ho like ETH did. We don't have the players he needs to play this system. It isn't rocket science. We have 5 defenders and arguably 2 holding midfielders and yet still conceded garbage goals that are preventable.

I'm not suggesting sacking him but he needs to at least understand that it ain't working.

I consider a late last gasp winner to be fairly lucky.

We are playing with 5 defenders, a DM and a false 9. We shouldn’t be surprised we generated only one shot on target.

Chasing a goal or two and bringing on Antony, Hojlund and Garnacho shows how bad things are. Garnacho wasn’t great but was decent enough until we totally changed our system and pretty much put him up for sale.

Which brings me to my next point, Amorim is having a shocker with his insistence on this formation. It is inherently negative and we don’t have the personnel for it. The extra defenders aren’t making us any better at the back and the attack that was already bad is at the same level or worse.

Our best attackers are Bruno, Rashford and Garnacho and all have been made to look worse than what they are. Mainoo looks lost, Dalot stands out terribly at LWB. What is the point of persisting with this not only for every game but for every minute of the game. I hate EtH and even he was known to switch up formations when chasing games.

I like him and think he comes across well but whenever a young manager thinks he’s above being wrong it always ends up bad. If you are a genius, then it needs to be proved and right now what we are seeing is just a lot of talk. This is the Premier League not a Mickey Mouse league where you can just turn up and watch teams roll over.
+1

Fernandes should focus on himself. He’s been non-existent in the last two games too.

That's a terrible thing to publicly disclose to be honest. There are players like De Ligt, Maz, Yorro, Ugarte, Mainoo who wouldn't appreciate this type of a narrative. He should be motivating his squad not shitting on them in public so early. Irrespective of whether he bought them or not.

It's not only intensity that is at fault here. It is our complete lack of ability to play on the front foot. We can still only play on the transition.

Christ he's gone in two footed on them. This isn't going to end well.

I’m not going to change anything or make any effort to adapt but someday, and I won’t say when, it will all be good, trust me bro.

He can’t keep getting away with that line. He could try not starting seven defensive players in a home game for the gazillionth time, for starters.

The point being made here is that you can't just forget the damage that Ten Hag, alongside Murtough and Arnold, did to the squad over the past three years because it's in no small part the reason why we're in this mess in the first place.

It's not wrong that the form under Ten Hag was never this bad but it's equally not wrong that we were an absolute train-wreck under him for his last year at the club and that was after he'd spend untold sums of money on absolute dross. With Amorim, as bad as we've been, you at least have the mitigating factor that this isn't his squad and he inherited an absolute dumpster fire because of Ten Hag.
We aren't getting 4 points from 18 because we have shit players. This narrative need to stop. It's utter bollocks.

But look at the bright side folks
Every manager who joined the club had a good run for the first few games.
Amorim is an exception that his system is DOA , so either it is DOA or odds are in his favor to better than his predecessors.

Quality control

He means we are playing like the worst team in United history and we need to change that. Chill out, Mr Hag.

Probably the only thing I agree with them on if they have doubts over the managers long term future.

Specialist players like wingbacks become surplus to requirements if the next manager plays 433.

Not necessarily. Their previous wingbacks like Mendes play fullback elsewhere. He converted a RW to RWB at Sporting, who I’m sure could go back to RW without issue. Much like Amad can play both.

What does this have to do with Ten Hag? Try not to wind up - and it doesn't make the statement less contravertial - its no wonder there are a few players who have dipped under him.

If we were going to be this shit we should have just kept ETH till the end of the season and bought in Amorim in the summer, with the right players and time to implement tactics.
I can't understand why we paid ETH so much money to get the sack now, so we can then pay a lot of money to get Amorim in now instead of the summer for what?
Its not like he could save our season or anything by bringing him in early, we are absolutely awful.
Ineos are inept and not the saviors we all thought they were.

He has explained this a million times. We either start playing it now with the players we have, so that we can figure out which ones can play the system and which one's can't. Or we wait till the summer, wasting an entire half a season where we could have been training for a specific tactic and finding out more about these players.
How many tests does he need to run to make his assessment? I think we’re all pretty clear on which players will fit and which won’t, with most of the squad falling into the “won’t” category. So he submits a report to Jimmy Rats that says he needs 6 minimum, realistically 8, new players to get this team firing like his last team did. Jim says, you can have 1 maybe 2. So then what?

sounds broken

Start fecking changing something then.

Doesn’t have to be his fecking system, keep it, but get more attackers on to that fecking pitch man.
Been screaming it for weeks and weeks now, Manchester United simply cannot play at home with so many defenders and just two players capable of creating/scoring in our starting eleven.

Yet he fecking insists, week in, week out despite looking utterly shite and barely able to generate a shot on target.
Right now he’s coming across as naive and sorry to say, foolish as feck, and completely unprepared for the Premier League.

So you think Amorim will be sacked without having a window where he’s got money to spend?

I have lost all trust in INEOS they have made bad decision after bad decision to the extent you have to question what their logical framework is.

They say that the art of communication is the language of leadership, yet we have heard nothing about Amorim's predicament. This same silence is what Jim did with Erik when asked if he had confidence in the manager he swerved the question with an obtuse response.

There are too many questions with INEOS, we don't know what their expectations are for his tenure, what the projection is with him as being successful. Amorim's contract term doesn't reflect them hiring to rebuild things from, it signifies them wanting to rally on competitively sooner rather than later. He has said himself that his job isn't safe. I think they'll sack him, after the quotes about them disagreeing over Erik then parting ways with Ashworth they can't be trusted to make sound judgements.

Rangnick on steroids.

I mean he's right about the team but he is also not helping himself.

This season is fecked so I’m all for seeing what he can do with a few additions, selling a few and a pre-season under his belt. I fear however that Jimmy Brexit will can him before Easter.
