Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

It's not a poisoned chalice if the coach matches the strengths of the players. With Amorim it clearly and obviously does not.

To get to the point where we can play 343 effectively it's going to take a lot of selling and a lot of buying. Just dropping Amorim in there and expecting magic was the height of idiocy on the part of our football board.

From what we've seen at Nice, it's not out of question for Berrada, Wilcox and Amorim to all be gone by summer. Sir Jim has invested in a vanity project, he doesn't want to be known as the man who relegated Man Utd. If this keeps up there's gonna be some blame going around...

...I dread what's going to happen at Liverpool next.
It's always going to be difficult for a young coach who isn't even 40 to go to a foreign country in the middle of season and be tasked to improve them during a tricky run of games every 3 days over winter. There's no time to implement anything new and Amorim isn't experienced enough to understand that he needs to keep it simple until the next international break and not alienate Rashford until the summer. He speedran what ETH did Jadon in 3 weeks to show everyone who's boss but he may need to crawl back to Rashford since nobody else can score right now. Again the inexperience shows and IDK what ETH and Amorim get by singling out and scapegoating players as the "culprit" of Utd's problems when it demotivates the other players.

How many defeats can he handle? I mean our fixture list is hard. Liverpool and arsenal, then home to Southampton. If he lose all 3 he will be under very heavy scrutiny

I genuinely think we've royally fecked this up. This is basically Rangnick on repeat.

Delay sacking the last manager until all the international breaks are over and then hire one with a completely different system, with feck all time to train it. On top of it, bring him into coach a bunch of players with 0 confidence having been thrashed for months on end under the last coach. Then make them learn a new system when they've hardly got any self belief and no time on the training ground.

This is genius. I feel bad for Amorim, but I think its so hard to recover from something like this so it might just end his tenure.

Only United could do this to a manager. Just a couple of months back he was one of, if not the most sought after manager in world football. Fast forward to today and we have fans questioning if he lacks the tactical intelligence to manage us. We could lose every remaining game and I wouldn’t blame Amorim, we are very lucky to have him.

True. Newcastle are just soaking up pressure and will look to hit us on the counter. Having said that, if we make it 1-2, I fancy us to draw or win the game.
We have better players on the pitch now, and when teams sit in and lose a goal it can be hard to get the momentum back. United are very bad though in the other hand.

We need about 8 to 10 signings in the summer. Everyone signed under ten hag and Ole need to go

That isn’t going to happen though. We lack any funds to make that many changes in the squad. And the biggest problem to why half these terrible players haven’t left yet is because of their ridiculous inflated salaries. We have no chance shipping out Shaw, Casemiro or Rashford for that reason.

Playing 3 at the back with not a single elite defender is madness, putting two players with no legs in front of them is suicide.

Our squad is absolutely rotten to the core but he hasn't exactly helped himself with the players he picked tonight. That midfield is shocking, absolutely devoid of any physicality and attack has mobility of a retired pros charity game. Defence isn't exactly brimming with physical players either. And, to compound it all, he is playing a system which is even more taxing on this group of players. There is a bit of naivety compelled with arrogance in his stint so far. In any job you have to adapt to the league, players, tools you are given. He has done anything but. I do think he has to switch the system and probably wait for next summer when he has had a transfer window before he starts implementing it.

shit line up, but somewhat expected when you can only pick turds.

Yup. Imagine we get hit for 6 by the Scousers. Just imagine...

Has a manager ever recovered from so many defeats this early on in their tenure??

They have Isak we have Højlund that's our far we've fallen

When goals were the issue under EtH, who did we get, Zirkzee....and INEOS thought goals will suddenly come easy. What a joke

I just want to see some improvement by appointing a new manager. We have progressively got worse. Changing players isn’t going to be easy with PSR. A lot of these players will be here so he will need to work with them.
Improvements are subjective. You haven't seen any. Fair enough. I have so I'm a bit more optimistic.
We can’t keep pretending it’s not at all a possibility. With the current trajectory, both results and performances, we could get in real trouble.
People say this every season now and we've yet to see us anywhere near one.

Even if we get in one, I'm fine with it. This whole club needs a reboot and if it takes something like that to see us finally change with the times, so be it.

We said going into the season with ten Hag that we had effectively wrote the season off. It's just a shame Amorim is on the receiving end of the mess our board created by persisting with ten Hag.

Spot on. So much for the "game model" they kept bleating on about late last season.

Ten Hag wanted Kane and couldn't get him. The club then, rightly or wrong spent big on Hojlund. Zirkzee was never coming in as first choice, and I dare say he'd be a decent squad player in a settled team, but unfortunately we're anything but at the moment.

Trying to do the same thing game after game and expecting different outcomes is called insanity.

It was like this at the end for Moyes, LVG, Mourinho, Ole, RR and ETH.

Poor Ruben didn't even have a start :(

He needs to go back to playing at least one winger at the WB role. Not sure why he’s gone more defensive. It’s not worked.

The problem was ten hag of course yes! The problem is that the template is garbage and part of the blame is on whoever gave the money to ten

Taking a look at tonight's staring XI:

GK: Onana - fit for the purpose and has what's required from a technical goalkeeper in Amorim's system.

RCB: De Ligt - Never been a wide defender and can only be deployed at CCB. X

CCB: Maguire - fit for the purpose and has what's required from a CCB in Amorim's system.

LCB: Martínez - Never been a wide defender and can only be deployed at CCB in this system but he'd be subpar there as well. X

CMs: Neither Casemiro or Eriksen have ever really been CMs and this physically declined versions of them aren't fit for any purpose in any system in the world's best league anymore. XX

RWB: Mazraoui - Not really a wing-back for me. Very solid full-back in a back 4 and potentially a good bench option for the RCB and LCB roles in Amorim's system. X

LWB: Dalot - Not really a wing-back for me. Very solid all-rounder full-back for a back 4, who can invert into midfield very well, much like Mazraoui. I wouldn't put him at RCB or LCB in a back 3 though. X

The two #10s: Amad & Zirkzee - Amad is suitable to play one of the #10s in a 3-4-2-1 IMO, although he needs specific conditions, and a specific type of player in the other #10 position in order for him to be effective. I could probably say the same for Zirkzee as well. ??

ST: Hojlund - fit for the purpose and has what's required from the striker in Amorim's system, but will inevitably be uneffective if everything behind him is dysfunctional and the team can barely even progress the ball up to the opposition's box. He's also raw and playing in such a shit team hasn't done any good for his development in these 15-16 months that he's been at the club. I'll give him the though, for the stylistic fit.

So that's what, 4 out of 11 players at best, that have the required skillset and traits to do what Amorim needs from them?

That's the biggest issue aside from physical levels. You can't field 4/11 suitable players against any team in the Premier League, especially against a top half side.

Our physical flooring and athleticism levels are also way below the required standards, and unfortunately for us the opposition tonight in Newcastle have a good physical flooring in their XI.

That's what I was saying last week vs Wolves. It worryingly resembled a game at the tail end of our past 6 managerial tenures.

We should have allowed him to come in the Summer and just brought Ole or whoever in the meantime.

Yep. A squad with the mental strength of jello having to learn a new system in December was always... bold.
