Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I don't understand who you've been watching but it wasn't Varane, he was comfortable passing off both feet, looked a little awkward but was assured. Comfortably better than Smalling anyway for feck sake
Varane was shocking.
His best games passing wise was when he would receive the ball and get rid of it as quickly as possible with a short pass.

His countrymen Dalot and Bruno seem to be immune to his rotations though. You cant even argue theyve been in undroppable form. Would love to see Amorim’s team without Bruno’s charts’ topping possession lost numbers

Any chance you could share those numbers? Because I suspect they’re a figment of your imagination.

Varane was far from 'shocking' with the ball at his feet for feck sake

Look I’m not telling the head coach how to Head coach the club. I’m just pointing out to everyone who’s talking about him constantly rotating players that it hasnt involved Bruno and Dalot. Dalot has only missed a total of 50ish minutes or so in Amorim’s first 8 games. Bruno even less
Then why didn't you include Onana on your list?

Why only his "fellow countrymen"?

Are there some kind of agenda that is being pushed that I haven't pick up on yet?

No agenda, just pointing out facts. Including a goalie in terms of rotating players to test out different combinations and to rest players is just silly.

Sure. In terms of possession lost he's currently 3rd in the league this season with 274. Last season he unfortunately was the player who lost the ball the most in the league. It's pretty evident whether you think he's a good player or not. I'm still waiting for the day that he's rested to see how the team functions without him but I'm not holding my breath.

Everything he says is honest. Love hearing him speak in press conferences

Relative to what's required for a CB in modern day football to deserve the "Rolls Royce" shouts and stuff like that, I'd say it's arguable that Varane was in fact shocking on the ball.

He couldn't really carry it, couldn't really pass progressively, and wasn't exactly press resistant either, he just never risked it and got rid of the ball before it became an issue. However, our build-up suffered for it massively, especially when it was AWB and Varane making up the right side of the defense.

I like Varane, but his United stint gets really overrated sometimes. He was an elite level box defender that struggled with the demands of the modern game, such as playing in a high line, and what I've mentioned in my previous paragraph. His best games came when we were stuck in a low-block against opposition that dominated us and he had to defend his own box.

Yoro is already much better in the ball-playing and passing aspect, despite being just 18 and with only 1 full season under his belt on senior level.

They are probably 2 of the most athletic/least injury prone players in the squad.

Dalot has had one injury in the last 5 years where he was out for 22 days.

Bruno has hardly had an injury in his whole career which is ridiculous.
Correct.
One of our issues is that our team don't want to run and work. The work rate is poor.
We need to be packing athletic players into the team, not removing them.

Mazraoui has hardly been rotated either tbf

Considering he’s one of very few players fit enough to start and finish every game he’s going to do more of everything than most other players. So that means nothing without context. Possessions lost per 90 (including the other players in the top 5) might tell us something useful but I won’t hold my breath. Just like you shouldn’t hold your breath for Amorin dropping him, as he evidently sees what a useful player he is. Just like every other manager he’s ever played under.

Let's not get carried away and be as objective and cautious as we can with Amorim, I am fully behind him as a Head Coach and I believe he has what it takes to succeed with us, and I love what I am seeing now in terms of improvements he has made so far, despite all the challenges, and that is what we need from Amorim, not only improvement on how the team performs, but improvement in results as well, loss against Forest was not acceptable, and today it is extremely important to win a home game against an inferior team like Bournemouth, I understand this is relatively early in his tenure and a lot of these players are prone to making multiple unforced errors in a game, despite all that, we still need him to make something happen with this squad, especially in the league, we have to get points on the board and aim to be in top 6 if possible, maybe top 4 if other teams botch it somehow.

People say some ridiculous stuff. Prime De Bruyne lost the ball at a similar rate to Bruno ffs.
Me pointing out he's sloppy in possession and wanting to see the team without him even for once (even a cup game) is not ridiculous. No need to be dramatic. Also Prime KDB could lose the ball as much as he wanted considering he was one of the greatest players in the PL era - playing in an otherwise hyper disciplined team.

I mean there were literally many reports about him being by the sloppiest player in possession one month into this campaign. He's always been like that but he doesnt have the numbers to back it up anymore unfortunately. Yes he's always been trusted by his coaches, but he's also captained the team in our most humiliating defeats over the past few seasons.

Sorry to the mods for going off topic.

He needs to stop changing the team now. It’s costing us games.

I see clean sheets are a huge problem

They will be if you concede from a set piece in almost every match. Id be ashamed to part of a team so easily beaten in their own box it's absolutely pathetic

The whole set piece thing is becoming a bit of a joke at this point tbh

Any Sporting fan who can say how they were at set pieces under Amorim? It's Carlos Fernandes who's in charge of them I believe?

I know he wanted his own guys, but he needs to let go of his set piece coach or he is not gonna survive the season..

I really don’t see much difference compared to Ten Hag other than we now don’t play a formation which accommodates most of our players.

I think it's just his assistant manager who's in charge of them so he isn't a setpiece coach per se. But we've definitely regressed massively after he took charge.

After losing to Spurs you'd expect some sort of response in terms of energy and intent from the players when you play in front of your own fans. This is just far from good enough.

My first black mark against Amorim is set pieces. It's actually disgraceful now - every game we look like conceding. Its obviously not him in direct charge but ultimately he has to spot the issue and fix it. I would expect better from any league 2 side coming to defend set pieces at old Trafford

The set piece coach can lead a horse to water, but that goal is just piss poor individual play. From the brain dead tackle from Malacia to Zirkzee being a lightweight

We had hired a set piece coach in summer and got rid of him with ten hag. Its an area we've fallen off a cliff in since

My only complaint with him is picking Bruno non stop who is the definition of hoofing random balls.

Nah, he's still on the coaching staff. I think you brews the coffee now. Maybe the new one can start taking out the cones and we get someone who can set us up properly.

I won't write one wrong word about Amorin until we've played at least 10 PL matches.

Agree with this. The coaching could be perfect, but these players will let you down one way or the other. We always find a way to concede.

We have had several games to fix our defending on setpieces but we still struggle. Doesent reflect good at all on the responsible coaches.

No matter the manager we cannot get any sort of momentum going what so ever and its been like this for well over 12 months

Its pathetic

.Martinez is 5ft9, Malacia is 5ft7. The only 6ft3+ defender we've got is Maguire. This defense is tiny.

Amorim's system is highly dependent on something we lack, quality wingbacks. We also lack a quality striker.

Yet it was the big and strong zirkzee who got brushed away. Its embarrassing for all involved

This is my first post here, I'm a Benfica supporter and really like Rúben.
I have been reading the forum for a while now and watched all Manchester United games since Rúben arrived. As an outsider I can honestly say that right now you can change manager as many times you want that nothing will be solved, most of the players are just not good enough and no one can operate a miracle with these players. Lack of goals set pieces and so on are just symptoms of an incredible lack of quality for what should be Manchester United standards. Anyway I really hope things get better!!

I thought we ended the half positively after a rough start. We started carving them open at will. At this point we're not going to be doing this for the full 90. I think people are forgetting how big of a mess we were before he joined.

The fact that we're consistently creating better chances than our opposition is already a huge step even if their a periods in every game where we struggle. That was always going to happen.

I think this has been another positive showing to build off of, and I think we'll create even more this coming half.
