Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

After the first 2-3 questions, the press manager should have said we will take questions on the game if there are any. Not allow entire presser to be same Marcus Rashford questions asked in different ways.

Exactly, WTF was our press officer even doing. Ask questions about the game or feck off. Amorim's handling of it all was excellant.

He handled the presser really well which is impressive considering all the fecking questions were about Rashford. The press officer should have after 2/3 rehashed Rashford questions made it clear we need to ask questions on the game. Very frustrating to watch to be honest, all they were trying to catch the manager out for a headline.

and this is why i think the whole interview and the timing was done on purpose. Big win and we talk about Rashford. Big game and we talk about Rashford. Get rid of him

Seems like Amorim might be going after Nuno Mendes (PSG).
He's exactly the kind of LWB that any top team in Europe needs. Fits perfectly in Amorim's system.
Very young, fast, excelent pace, strong, good technique and tacticaly astute.
Too bad he's a bit injury prone.

Should be talking about the team and about a difficult away League Cup quarter final, but instead has to answer questions about Rashford's crying to the press a few days before a huge game for the club.

There's only one side anyone can take on this who actually cares about the long term future of the club.

Hardly a surprise with the club instilling some standards and accountability that the first one to fall out of line is Rashford.

The annoying thing is he's not even good enough to warrant the attention he's getting. I could understand it when it was Ronaldo getting all the headlines

Totally. It's just a reflection on a club size of United that we don't have enough superstars currently in the team and journalists have to settle on Rashford for the headlines.

And why just journos. Here on caf we have three threads running hot on same footballer.

Replacing an injury prone LB with an injury prone LB isn’t ideal. But he is a baller. Where did you hear about this? Is Amorim using his Portugese connections?

I like that he was just laughing at them in the end of the presser. It's ultimately better for him just to handle the questions on his own and not have the press officer step in and make the press think they might have something on him.

He appears to be coping well with the drama, it was nice to see him laughing at the end of the presser, it's the best way to deal with the chaos of Manchester United. It's only football at the end of the day.

I just hope we get to see a focused and mean United tonight against Spurs.

Yesterday's presser is a great example of the shit he'll face here, bet it was a real eye opener for him. Entire press conference and zero questions about the actual game were playing tonight

I thought he handed it all really well and I love how controlled and yet relatable he is. His message is always calm and consistent. At the same time I also think it wouldn't have hurt to just fergie the lot of them. Refuse to answer it and ban anyone who asks the questions. Those shitehawks feast on this stuff and we should always give them as little as possible

He's the most "Press" resistant manager we've here since 2013.

Totally agree, Amorim coped with it fine. But INEOS should of learned by now that the manager gets hounded 4-5 times a week and eventually it will become draining.

The press officer can be as big a dickhead as he wants so after repeated questions on one topic he should interrupt and attempt to control the room. Even more so when English is not the managers first language. But nah far easier to just sit there like a plum and do nothing while the vermin attempt to grab those few words so they can twist it into the next drama.

It's a joy just to come to the cafe and read exchanges once again. Things are looking up for the club. Amad is picking up, trasford is leaving. The last time it felt this positive was just before we gave Ole the permanent position. Let's hope it doesn't end the same way.

Press officer needs to do his / her job.

He’s absolutely nailed Rashford with his comments.

Amorim is fantastic with the media. Stark contrast to Ten Hag.

Amorim did say his United team couldn’t play like his sporting team after they thrashed city 4-1. In which they mainly countered. We definitely went toe to toe with them. Love it
It's refreshing to have a manager who when he says he can't play like his previous team its because he intends for us to play better......

Ye where as ETH was the opposite. Was making excuses as to why we couldn’t play like his Ajax team, which his style of play was one of the reasons we wanted him. At least Amorim has come in and he’s sticking to his style.

I hope Amorim can bring joy and make us forget about ETH. He has the charisma to handle the press unlike who have like a teacher. I believe he will bring success and hope we can keep for the next 10 years.

In earlier posts, I said that Amorim needs to make something happen with this squad and get them winning games as much as possible, and I know it's only one big win against a weak city side, but at least I do see what he is trying to do here, his impact is visible in terms of the team's defensive solidity and ability to control games.

Hopefully he continues on this work and keeps at it.

On the Rashford front, he is dealing with it very well, his answers are actually not just cute and nice words they are true as well, one journalist asked if this will impact the dressing room, he said players are lot simpler, they only care about their place in the squad, which is true but it also minimized any perceived impact here, he was asked what he will do if Rashford leaves, his brilliantly answered by saying we are not in the future we are here and we got a game against Spurs, even the way he answered it, (if if if, we are not talking about ifs in this club).

what i like that Ruben has done is come in and find the biggest dog in the yard and put his authority on the situation....sets the tone for everyone else that it doesn't matter who you are, if you don't play up to the standards set by the manager then he'll take decisive action

Just echoing the pro Amorim sentiment, I love the "I don't want to talk about Rashford, my focus is on the team not an individual player", taking all the attention away from him not giving him any more airtime than he has to

With previous managers you could feel the pressure in every interview, that they are just the tip of the iceberg that is Man United as a club. Like when USA president is visiting you country you can feel all that responsibility and seriousness of the situation.

With Ruben is just right here right now, i am sitting in a room with few journalists answering the questions like i would with my friends at some party in the kitchen at 3 AM with a bottle of beer in my hand and tell what is all about without any pressure, without any strings attached.

I know how big of a club we are and that for a long time we have not been playing at the highest level so people are trying to find anything to write about. Any single thing whether it is bad or good is being taken too serious. Reading about those team leaks recently was like reading that some of our players kill someone. Ruben said that he heard about it but does not give a damn, we want to have our own style and know what we want to do on the pitch so after a while others will know it too so i does not matter if they know starting lineup or not we still want to go there and win.

Hojlund and Amad busy up after the game ?

- That’s good thing because it shows they care.

NEXT

Garnacho being mad at Amorim

- That’s great, i would be mad at the couch also if i did not play,

Every single issue is being played down, to show journalists that all that matter is what happen on the pitch, and even if some stuff are not perfect everyone at the club is just a human and makes mistakes but there is always a way to turn around the situation at the training and at the game.

Because of that any player that is out of form needs to show that he will do anything to get back to the first 11, so every single minute they spent on the grass will give 200% so that will make every player finally earning their wages with blood, sweat and tears.

What is great about it, we can use that approach from the manager as a filter to separate players who wants to be here and wants to fight for the badge from those that just want to use the club for their own profit whether it is fame or money.

I was listening Rio’s podcast recently and he said something like

- the club and the fans does not owe you anything except some respect but you still need to gain it showing that you care and fight for the club

The club gave you a chance to be part of it’s History and you should be grateful for that and try to use your time here as much as you could because milions of people would love to be in your place.

I really like what i am seeing during matches, and i know it’s gonna be a while to be better so i am patient but i just so feckin love that player management and general approach from out manager right now. I hope it’s gonna work out.

Interesting video about the Sporting team vs our current state. Time on the training pitch is sorely needed

The way he handles the press, always answering the questions, but saying only exactly what he wants (and choosing the correct wording 90%+ of the time) was always a strengh when he was here with Sporting.
I though that would not be so easy in England and in Engllish... but so far he´s been the same guy we had in Sporting for almost 5 years
And even when he played the press, he did it with a smile and in a way that most jornalists didn´t even realise that they were being played

Imagine he ended up managing WHU….yikes! Admittedly he wasn’t at the top of my list (off season he was probably like 4-5th choice & when EtH was sacked he was second choice behind Nagelsmann) but shows you what little I know.

I went mostly off formation (3 at the back) which I wasn’t a fan of etc. but didn’t know enough about Amorim. The guys fantastic. Charisma, intelligence and seemingly has identified every issue with the playing personnel we’ve been shouting about post SAF - very quickly and is acting upon it.

Difficult to contain one’s excitement if I’m honest, even though I’m trying not to get carried away.

Imagine if he had ended up managing Liverpool. That would have been even worse.

A goal down but I'm very happy with what I'm seeing. The way we're keeping the ball and getting in their box time and time again is very promising.

Normally, it'd be disappointing to be losing a cup tie, but context is key. Coming in to the mess we were and having us play like this, away, to one of the countries better teams, with a makeshift 11, already is very impressive.

Yep I absolutely see something there. Need some pacey, physical, smart attackers in the summer and we’ll look quality imo.
