Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I just want the juicy bits.

Asked about Rashford wanting a new challenge.

"I think he's right. We have here a new challenge and it's a tough one, it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation. This is really a new challenge. I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge.

"I just want to win and to help the team be better, so we are better with Marcus Rashford, and that's simple, we try different things to push Marcus to be at his best level that he's shown in the past.

"This kind of club needs big talent and he is a big talent so we just need him to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.

Asked if it would have an impact on the other players.

"They [players] are more simple than that," he said. "They focus on their job, I was a player and we are a little bit selfish. It is not even an impact on the team.

"We have one more training but it is the same situation as the other players, if they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see at the end of training. I expect the best of each player every day."

When asked if he would be open to letting a player leave the club leave in January, he added: "This is in the future, my focus is that all the players are at their best and can be prepared for each match."

Awesome, thanks!

He answers the questions brilliantly, but the Rashford focus is tiring, not one question about the game, the rotation etc. all about Rashy.
It's a big story - we haven't heard from Amorim since the interview, this was always going to happen and it's understandable.

I think he handled it perfectly.

Not specific to Amorim - this just came across my TL and I didn't know where to post it (don't think we have a "cool Manchester United videos" thread) - so I''m dropping it here:

This kind of win buys him a lot of goodwill with fans everywhere

Love stuff like this

I've always stumbled upon dedicated MUFC fan cafe's and restos/bars when visiting other countries in Africa and Asia over the years.

Really puts in perspective just how massive the club really is globally. That win will definitely give Amorim quite the boost in terms of fan patience

This is from my home City, Nairobi. I can share more videos about last weekend win. It was Epic...

Fantastic press conference in regards to the cleverness in his answers.

He’s put the ball firmly in Rashford’s court, saying if he wants a new challenger then this is what the current team is going through. Said we need him to show the levels he has shown before and that he will help him as best as he can to achieve it.

Continues to say that the players need to show everyday why they deserve to be in the squad come match days and he’ll assess all players after each training.

We have found a top quality coach and motivator.

Ruben Amorim on Rashford saying he's ready for a new challenge:

"He's right. We have a new challenge here, the biggest in football. We're in a difficult situation, and I hope all my players are ready."
That’s a fantastic quote. God he really does talk the talk. Very much hope he continues to walk the walk because he’s a very charismatic guy.

Goatmorim at it again, standard.

Press can feck off, the times of off-field sagas being bigger than what's going on the pitch needs to die.

I quite like this guy. Speaks very well and he's not afraid. Think that's key to being a United player or manager. The fear of the club and what it means. Amorim embraces it.

It really is smart. Rashford has always been very clever in the way he uses the press, but he’s been outmanoeuvred by a smarter operator here.

In saying only nice things, Amorim has painted him into a corner from which he either embraces the fight, or acknowledges that he doesn’t fancy it.

I’m glad as well to have a communicator as smooth and emotionally intelligent as Amorim handling this situation. As frustrated as I’ve been with Rashford in recent seasons, he’s one of our own and has been involved in some big moments in his time here. There were guys like Pogba, Lingard, Sanchez, Martial or Van de Beek who I just wanted gone and didn’t care how, but with Marcus it wouldn’t feel right if he left on bad terms.

Lingard and to a certain extent Pogba have been at United since they were kids. They're one of our own too. Lingard with the fa cup winning goal has a bigger individual moment than Rashford too.

I disagree with that - Rashford against PSG was bigger than a goal in the Cup final, and Rashford has shown up more than just once in big games. I also think he’s been a better professional on the whole than Lingard was, even if that’s damning with faint praise a bit.

Perhaps I’m wrong and am holding different guys to different standards, but my personal feeling is that I’ll remember Rashford more fondly than the other two.

He speaks really well. I just hope the constant firefighting required in Pressers doesn't wear him down. You really do need extraordinary patience to manage this club.

He has said the perfect thing to maintain the clubs position in any potential transfer negotiation and also give fuel to Rashford for whatever time he may have left at the club

Tuned in to MUTV for it to find out if anyone would care enough to ask this but literally every question about Rashford
Well that is way more important than asking about players that can be bothered to put in a shift and play good for the team... Rotten media.

And to support it moses. And to support it. Ruben's only here 5 minutes. I'm at this since 1977.

Ah you've seen more than your fair share of success so!
I started in 77 as well. Those Sexton and Atkinson years were a fair slog as well though. However, there was much more spirit in the team then than in the ETH years. I'm glad to see this improving.

I'm 51, my proper memories only stretch back as far as Big Ron, but that's the team that made me fall in love with United.

Feels good to have a manager that opposition fans like and don't clown on every chance they get for once.

It's refreshing to see a manager doing something different. Too many just follow Pep ball.

He's brilliant and beautiful.

Have you noticed how we're not flagging towards the end of games now because the players aren't being run ragged by transitions for 75 minutes beforehand. Having control of the ball more means we can finish games strongly and not fall apart like we did so often under ETH.

I assume you meant spirit in their (blood) system back then.

Dropping Garna and Rasha could have backfired very badly. Imagine a loss where we didnt score that could have happened easily because we are a work in progress playing City away. The media would have been all over him. Balls of steel.
That's the world we live in, pretty sure the headlines were up until the equalizer. They would have torn him apart in the press.

Excellent point. Coordinated pressing helps also in that regard.

Just watched the press conference. Blimey, I'm so ashamed of the journalists in this country. Absolute rodents. Not a single question about the game

Nothing to do with the country. This would be the case anywhere. The highest paid player in the team, in his prime, who is a local lad, who’s been at the club since he was a child, is leaving or being pushed out or however you want to phrase it. Even if his impact on the games has been minimal, it’s a big story that easily overshadows a carabao cup game.

Amorim’s answers are a masterclass.

The one thing I’d say about Lingard is, as childish as he was, he always put a shift in on and pitch even if he wasn’t impacting the game, he’d still run the miles

That’s fair. He definitely wasn’t workshy on the pitch.

Well answered by Ruben towards Rashford new challenge.

"We have here a new challenge, it's a tough one," he added.

"For me, it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"So, this is a really new challenge and the biggest one. I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge."

I think ETH would have said and done more or less the same thing. It’s just the way he delivered the information. He always seemed angry or pissed off. I’d imagine he was like that with the players behind the scenes too, strict. It doesn’t seem to wash for very long and then as we see certain players will just down tools at the first sign of trouble or things not totally suiting them anymore. Amorin seems to know that he just needs to keep the majority of the dressing room on his side and he will with his rotation and approachable nature. As long as the results and mood is mostly positive then the lazy or uncommitted players will eventually hang themselves out to dry either through poor performances or in the media/social media. I don’t know about Rashford anymore but I can see this lighting a fire under Garnacho at the very least. I expect him to start against Spurs and to be fired up. This isn’t the first manager to call him out either. He needs to start focusing on what is important or he’ll be gone.
