Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Hopefully a big day for him yesterday. A message has been sent and needs to be built upon.

But at least he is willing to give it a go -- unlike a couple of our absentees.
Right. Nobody is saying he lacks talent or motivation but he is clearly severely injury prone, unfortunately at the level of Luke Shaw

We are a professional sports team in the most competitive league. We cannot be a charity case

Shaw and Mount cannot be relied upon. Sad but a cold fact that may not be ignored. Not buying a left back in the Summer is the biggest problem of that transfer window. Maybe we didnt have money but we should have at least loaned somebody less known or brought somebody from Latin America

Thankfully, we do have Mainoo to play in Mount's position. Probably not enough across the entire season but still not as bad as what is happening on the left

This isn't even his squad yet, but we’re already seeing significant signs of improvement. Casemiro, Eriksen, and Evans just don't quite fit, and he doesn’t have a proper left-wing back. Sancho would be a good addition to this team with a wide LWB, though I’m not sure he has the right mentality to thrive under Ruben.

8 of the Xi could be main starting next season:

Onana
Yoro - Mag/De Ligt- Martinez
Maz - Mainoo - Ugarte - LWB
Amad - ST - LCF

I know Bruno seens undroppable but his form has dipped fast and his output drop doesnt cover his flaws through the game. A proper LCF can challenge him out and Bruno/Mainoo fight out CM position next season.

I’m genuinely excited about the future. I can already see next season being a major step up with a few key players added. We can press effectively, break through a press with composed passing, and it's a joy to watch.
Those are our 3 weakest positions and why our attacking play is not clicking. Getting 3 top players in 2 windows should be doable.

he has a big task ahead, hope he can achieve a Champions place in the end of the season.

Amorim’s start to United has been positive. ETH was really out of his depth and part of me feels sorry for him as he adopted a “fake it till you make it” mentality which ultimately backfired. Amorim is far more comfortable in adapting his tactics and he seems to be more relatable to fans as a manager.

I'm still not sure on ETH. In his first year he certainly seemed to have a plan. I feel like he made some really bad decisions between his first and second season and lost any real authority he had over the players from there. Not that they weren't trying for him but the belief in what he was trying to do would have gone.

Amorim all good so far. Not expecting us to suddenly look like a good team again, but you can see the tactics and the plan. He isn't afraid to impose and actually enforce standards on what you need to do to be in the team. He speaks well and has an authority about him. Early days are always more positive. It just depends if he can keep to the principles he's started with and can get it to work in terms of results.

One thing I like is that for all Neville's whinging about how bad we were yesterday, in terms of defensively and tactical organisation, we were actually pretty good. Much better than we have been in a long time against any half decent side. City have been getting beat a lot but have still been scoring and creating lots of chances. Yesterday their only real chance was a goal from a freakishly deflected cross. The quality and ambition on the ball is what was poor, which is a toughr one for a manager to fix but hopefully also partly a belief/confidence issue.

I said the same after Arsenal game; i am delighted that we finally play even game against big teams away. For me, that is something which fills me with huge confidence for future.
Yes, result is great but at this moment, the fact that we went to City and played 50:50 game is something about which i am even more happy than result.

The pressing was great last night, we just need to do it every game now.

And were solid defensively while at it too!

Now to be fair city are in a bit of a downturn but they're still city nonetheless.

Just need to do it against a side Luke Liverpool and we're halfway back to our perch.

On the right path but yesterday’s win makes the loss against forest even more frustrating. We’d be a lot closer to top 4.

Trying not to get carried away but with every interview he does, the more he just sounds like the perfect fit. Plenty of encouraging signs on the pitch too.

Isn’t that exactly what Woodward and the Glazers did for years?

Oh I'm sure it happened regularly in the post Fergie years. A non-football guy like Woodward imposing random expensive signings on four different managers with limited regard for the actual players the managers wanted - then many of those players would linger around for years playing for subsequent managers who didn't want them because they did fit into their tactics or profiles. Its been a central part of our demise over the past 12 years.

it's just nice to finally see a bit of discipline and structure to what we are doing out on the pitch....yes, we are still missing a few things going forward both with the wing backs and inside forwards but it takes a bit of time to learn the patterns and understand when to make the movements however it's so much more in tune than with EtH

I think that's just how it's going to be for us until the squad improves. We will get some very good wins, but then also drops points where we shouldn't (and Forest are quite good, obviously).

The most important bit is that the tactical setup and intensity seems to have improved quite a bit.

Finally, a manager who has an actual style of play.

After 6 games you can see everything that's been missing on the pitch in the decade.

Didn't concede in open play against Arsenal and City.

Just got to continue to work on defending set pieces, otherwise our shape has looked so solid so early under him

I agree. Even Amorim himself said we’re going to have ups and downs but I’m glad he’s started with his system straight away so we’ll be much better next season. A few signings in the right positions will improve us massively. I’m just glad we can go to places like ththat etihad and show some control now and not get slaughtered.

Building from the back is the smart thing to do.

Everyone can see we need to sort out the attack, but our defence has improved alot (outside of set piece defending).

Not since van Gaal have we had a manager that goes into games like these with the intention of doing anything but sitting back and countering. Seeing us keep the ball like that at the Etihad was a breath of fresh air.

If this is what's to come, Amorim is exactly the type of manager I wanted to build on what van Gaal was trying to implement. It only took, what, 8 years.

Im glad to see us starting to make some real progress and some kind of playing style but we still arnt showing any kind of urgeny to get the ball in to the opposition box, City were there for for the taking and with the amount of possesion we had in the first half we could have gone in 2 or 3 up instead of 1 down if we had more urgency in our attack.

I saw something very interesting last night.

Not one player was putting their hands out in exasperation and moaning at teammates as to why they didn’t execute correctly. There were demands to do better of course but none of that shoulder shrugging and dropping head bullshit.

Bruno is so passionate that he tends to do this. But I think Amorim has had a word with him on this - on body language. He looks more a captain of Manchester United than I’ve ever seen him.

Guess 2 other players who are always moaning and moping when things don’t go their way? Rashford and Garnacho. With Rashford you saw it all the time as recently as the Pilzen game. Garnacho has a habit of becoming aloof when he doesn’t get the ball much.

These are body language signs of player mentality. Amorim is working hard to fix that. I fecking love it!

We have a manager who wants us to impose our style against them, a proactive and not just a reactive manager. That's what I've been praying for. Once he gets his squad together and fills in some key roles, we'll be firing on all cylinders. We have great young talents in Mainoo, Amad, Yoro, Hojlund etc and a strong core of solid players with experience aged 24-28 in Martinez, Mazroui, De Light, Urgate. Squad is looking good with further additions at No10 and LWB and one more CM and we will be flying. Not been this optimistic since Jose's second season.

I love Mazrouai is always in space on the right, Mainoo and Amad dropping into space to be available for the pass. Once the players get used to the positions, we will dominate possession and create more scoring opportunities. Need a LWB, Dalot is completely useless in attack.

Ugarte is 23, even. There is something here that just might work.

There's a clear idea to keep the ball no matter the opposition which is a definite step in the right direction. It's true that City aren't in a good place but dominating the ball has never been a problem. They've done it even during this run of form, and they really struggled to do that yesterday.

Long term we need more in the final third but our wing backs are actually getting a lot of space that we're not fully capitalising on because we don't really have the players for it yet, but we can look at solving that in January/the summer.

Yeah thought the same. Crazy really to go the entire period inbetween with managers not fussed about keeping the ball.

ETH I think wanted to but just couldn't make it happen. Or in fact actually prevented it via his tactics.

Why does Hojlund get lumped in with Dalot?

I thought he ran the channels well, held off Dias and linked up quite well.

Also should of had the penalty, but did I watch a different game?

And he should have had an assist too, if Bruno had scored on the great chance. It was a sublime pass.

I blame the league cup win and his self indulgent letter to the fans.

We never really recovered after that.

Its engagement, they really don’t give a feck it’s just to stir shit amongst the fans.
That's my impression. They keep insisting that the fans need to be patient when a manager is sacked and then immediately become impatient themselves as soon as the new one is hired.

I don't buy that view, those managers gutted squads and then wasted millions on new players.
I guess it's likely just a disguised way of feeding off the Rashford/Ashworth clicks?

I think the club tried to back ETH but there was just no authority (which players would actually care what Murtough or Arnold said?) and it didn't help that he had to clear up the mess of Ronaldo, Sancho, old injured Varane, greenwood situation etc. there's no way he was ever going to keep everyone on side with that much head on confrontation with big names.
