Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

It's not the formation. Our squad is just full of football dummies. Yes they're good at specific things but often lacks the overall basics. You ask any other top PL team to switch to 3-4-3 and they'd do much better than us. Heck, pick up some random club from top 5 league in Europe, ask them to switch to 3-4-3 mid game, if they have the squad to fill those positions, they'd do just fine in relation to their players quality. But us? under Ole, Ten Hag, now Amorim - three managers where the team looked like they're worse as a team than individuals and it needs to change. One thing to combat that is to have a system, not just to go out and do whatever the feck they want (which is the only thing they excel at)

I wouldn’t say he’s any worse than Amad or an 18-year-old Quenda who was thrown into that role. Like I said, at least give it a try. I’m not claiming it’s guaranteed to work, but let’s be honest—everyone expected Garnacho to be used as a wing-back for the reasons I outlined in my earlier post. It’s a logical experiment that hasn’t been explored yet.
Amad is miles better defensively.

I feel at this point, utd need to set an entrance exam for all new signings to weed out the utter brainless idiots we have at the club.

A set of 30 multiple choice questions about football like:

when faced with only the GK to beat, should you:
A) close your eyes and blast the ball?
B) stop running and turn to look for a team mate?
C) run towards the only defender in your vicinity and lose the ball?
D) be calm and roll the ball either side of the GK?

Our current cohort would struggle to get 25% correct!

Lesson of what exactly? I mean, we're not going to play Maguire now are we? De Ligt is massive but useless in the buildup play.
Not sure if that gives him any lesson or direction where to go tbh.
Maguire will play a lot more. We can have one weakness on back three, but it’s suicidal to have two weaknesses.

Our squad just isn't suited to play his football. We barely carry any threat going forward outside of Amad and he's playing as a wing back. Fernandes was probably the next best but even he's an awkward fit in this system.

I think the players aren't good enough, and whatever system we play in, they will be found out. They don't run enough, don't see the game well enough, and don't have enough overall quality. If we win the Europa league to get into the champion's league, then great. Otherwise, I hope we finish outside of Europe altogether so that it's easier to discard deadwood, and just concentrate on building a team that can compete in the league.

How can you coach Onana to be a good goalkeeper my grandma should have saved that , how can you coach Martinez to look the ball not the player etc silly mistakes . We have a great coach in our hand but he needs better players . We need some money for him to get at least 1 players in January .

Agreed. Player mistakes cost us dearly. Licha, Bruno, and Onana today. That had nothing to do with Amorim, his tactics or formation. They were simply brain farts by the individual players.

Our squad isn't suited to play anyone's football. They are crap.

Read that we've already lost more points under Amorim than LFC under Slot. Can't be right, surely?

Hardly that surprising, is it? Liverpool are top of the table for a reason, and we're 13th with a new manager for a reason.

Looks like some tough times ahead until he can get some of his own players in.

We're not getting top 4 and we're not getting relegated, so does it really matter anyway, just let Amorim get the dirty work done this season, in the hope it puts us in a better place next season.

3-4-3 is a risky proposition for the PL at the best of times with the quality in the league and teams having so much pace and transition threat.

It will be interesting to see how Amorin adapts to it, it may be his preferred formation but his current squad lacks players suited to it.

Amad is basically a winger at WB position. He was constantly in opposition half throughout the game. Also found himself in box with shooting opportunity 3 times today with no real pressure around him. His position is not of traditional Wing back
How about just play him at 10?
Would maz at rwb be worse than amad?
Is Garnacho better at 10 than Amad?

Our best attacker and dribbler shouldn’t be playing some false winger position. I mean imagine Liverpool playing salah as a wing back..

Chatting about the formation when their goals came from a corner, a basic shot from 25 yards and a header that travelled in slow motion.

The issue is that he's gone from having a team with hard working and intelligent players, to coaching a bunch of lazy, mentally fragile, physically weak prima-donnas who should never have been at this club.

We'll need to stick with this manager, and make sure that the players who don't deserve to be here leave, one way or another, and that the people in charge of recruitment can listen to what the coach will be wanting in replacements.

The next few league games are really tough, he needs the team to start picking up points. Today was a big miss.

I really like the conviction he has in his ideas, he will be successful here in the long run.

I hope he sticks to his vision and refuses half measures but I wonder how far fans are willing to back him if the it leads us to even further spiral down the rankings, despite how most everyone asks the same I'm willing to bet it can get quite ugly.

The goals were from bad goalkeeping and bad defending. Now is it how we are marking at crosses? Onana had a horrific game today and should have done better.

True, the second one though came from Bruno and Yoro not quite connecting in an interchange that should have been quite simple (to be fair I think Yoro should have slowed down as it wasn’t the easiest for Bruno).

The players quite clearly aren’t comfortable yet. Rashford came on and didn’t have a clue what he should be doing and where he was meant to be. It’s not going to be a quick fix, and the hysterical ones on here will struggle to cope.

He’s trying to play a clever quick brand of football with players who are slow and thick as mince. I still fully back him.
Whatever his style, needs to be implanted with full force. If we suffer we suffer. If players fail they get sold. But the system must keep developing regardless. That has to be the goal otherwise we’d just be standing still.

Early days so I'm not worried. The only thing I want from him to try to identify his best 11, and the best position for each player. Time should help but as he said himself, he needs results to buy time. I had hopes for CL footballer but whatever.

The guys been here weeks..... Y'all sound so weak sometimes, no fight, just tantrums. We all knew it would take time to transition so what's all the crazy talk about? Give him a bit of time to get to know his players and the league.... at the least right?

Football fans are conditioned to think that any team that loses a football match were 'outdone tactically' as if results aren't more dependent on other aspects

Not at the top level, no. I think you could eek a little bit more out of some of them setting them up in a similar way to how we played during Ruud's stint as interim but it's not going to help us out in the long run so I understand why Amorim is doing what he's doing.

I just hope there's money there to sign a few players in the summer because quite a few of these need weeding out.

Amen.

Exactly this.

I’m already getting frustrated with him. Put players in natural positions.

We have two natural number 10s in Amad and Bruno. He decides to play Bruno in CM and Amad on the right wing position.

I know we don’t have a fit left footed wing back but don’t play Dalot there. He can’t do it. That’s why we signed Mazraoui yet he’s never started at LB or LWB.

Every single coach that comes in decides to put players in unnatural positions there wonder why they don’t perform.

For me, its clear that he needs to be backed irrespective of the short term results. When the players are unable to make easy passes, unable to hold the ball and make frequent blunders, there is only so much a manager can do. We are looking at yet another overhaul in the squad, need to sell 5-6 players and get 3-4 in the next summer window.

First half was good. How is he supposed to compensate for our keeper diving out of the way of a shot and then two players just watching a ball bounce in?

They’re clearly mentally fragile when shit like that happens and some of the players are just incredibly dumb. He can’t fix that in a month.
Agreed. It feels like some posters like ignoring what actually happened in the match and would rather revel in as much misery as possible. Don’t like some of the subs that were made today but we were quite comfortable until that Bruno+Onana+Lisandro disasterclass.

They’re also incapable of separating player performances, or anything really, from the result. We lost so therefore everything is terrible and nothing was good.

No manager can do anything about that, we were set up at half time after coming back strongly and dominating completely to just literally letting two goals in. It’s beyond ridiculous.
