Ross McCormack to Fulham....£11m

British players cost 2-3x more than foreign players. Not a surprise at all and this is why the british countries will never succeed at International level until this is solved.

I literally spat my Coffee out this morning reading that.

Arsenal signed Giroud for 12 million (i think) and he had won the league in France...

I know you pay more for British but Jeez. Even if the signing helps get Fulham promoted, he isnt the type of striker who will help keep them in the premiership the season after.

we should offer Fulham Ashley Young, they'd surely give us a profit on him given they think McCormack is worth £11m!:lol::lol:

That is embarassing.

A Championship team paying that much for a no-name player?:lol::lol:

We could have given them Ashley Young for far less if they wanted.

He scored 28 goals and assisted 10 in the last season. Still, £11M. Hard to believe he would be Premier League quality should they go up again next season.

So thats £23m on McCormack and Mitroglou in the past six months. Wow, just wow. Twenty three million pounds!

This has got nothing to do with him being British and everything to do with Fulham being spastics.

It has everything to do with him being British. No other foreign club in the world would pay 11m to buy a 27 year old player with an average scoring record from the second division of any other country.

If we were say, Spanish/Italian/French he wouldn't cost more than 5m.

Scored 30 odd goals in the Championship last summer. Replicate the same amount of numbers with Fulham and they'll go up. These parachute payments give the relegated teams a lot of advantage over the Championship teams IMO.

Even more embarrassing is the 11% of people on that sky sports article who think the fee is too low, or the 26% of people who think it is about right. Thats 37% of people who are completely fecking nuts.

Fulham just paid 12 million for 26 year old Mitroglu like last window from Olympiacos and he isn't even British.

I think there is a very good chance that Mccormack will be better than him for them this coming season.

This is like.....what. Even the British player inflation doesn't work since Sturridge and Wickham went for similar.

Still doesn't change the fact that they collectively are not worth even half of the total paid.

I would say 37% of people voting on the poll are Leeds fans, which would explain them being completely fecking nuts as it's bascially a requirement there.

I agree. I was responding to him being British hence only overvalued point vs Fulham being just strange.

Does this make him the most expensive Scottish player ever?????? i can't think of anyone that has cost more money

I think Steven Fletcher went for £12m when he signed for Sunderland.

Not a big deal for me. Its just a reflection of the inflation of transfer fees, both in terms of actual monetary inflation and the fact that the game is richer than it ever was so clubs can pay more. £11M now is probably no different to £6M 5 years ago. A bit of a gamble for a Championship side, but I assume parachute payments are bigger than ever so they're best off flexing their muscle now while they still can.

Besides, the guy was the league's top scorer with a club that was all over the place last year. About as safe a bet as you can get.

Porto would probably get 3 south american players for that price, much better than McCormack and sell all 3 for big profit. Insane fees.

English clubs can't get South American players like Porto do. Still, an insane fee. The only way they can justify spending so much on him is if his goals guide them back to the Premier League. Blackburn paid a similar amount for Rhodes a season or two ago and are still stuck in the Championship.

I know about work permits mate, i was just talking solely about the ammount. But like i said in the Carvalho thread, a player is worth what a club accepts to offer. Who knows perhaps he will go on and do brilliantly and justify the fee.

Wasn't Craig Gordon ridiculously expensive as well? Can't remember the exact fee though

9million Gordon went for, in fairness he was a very good keeper though. Injuries make that one look a stupid fee in hindsight.

No, mate. Mitroglou scored nearly a goal a game before being bought by Fulham in the winter. Plus he's Greece's number one striker. Greece are no mugs, they went into the last 16.

McCormack isn't even a definite starter for Scotland. SCOTLAND! ;)

Greece's number 1 striker ahead of Mitroglou was Samaras. Mitroglou just had 1 start and 2 sub appearances and while he had a good season/ season and a half there before joining was not much more before that.

Even Mccormack scored and assisted playing in various different positions last season and was player of the year in the championship.

Not sure what relevance your point has anyway in the extreme. So many factors go into International selection.

Yeah, Gordon was brilliant. He was utterly superb for Scotland around about the Euro 08 campaign. Better than McGregor has been for us.

McCormack isn't a starter for us, and tbh he hasn't been all that great for us when he has played. Snodgrass is much better.
